We're reverting back to where we were a couple of weeks ago on too many threads, with some just wanting to argue endlessly. So boring for everyone else. Maybe just direct message each other all day?
Relax in 6 weeks time I’ll have run my eye over him and with possibly the best eye for a strikers ability amongst Charlton fans I’ll give my verdict then
my record is up there
one of the first to call out strikers who aren’t good enough for us like izale McLeod , Bonne , Kanu, Ahadme the good ones who I rated Godden , May
Didn’t rate Karlan Grant who done better than I thought did think Luke Varney was going to be better
Kone is a better signing than Kelman. I don’t think Kone would have signed for us though, he will be worth at least £10m in the future so was always going to have interest from more established championship teams. QPR have done well there
How about the fact that Jones had him in his pocket every time we played them.
If we're going down that path, Kelman failed to score against us in both league games last season and the playoff final.
Everyone said Godden was a shit signing at the start and when I say everyone I mean the large majority of us! Stand down people and f**king chill! Give Charlie space and let him settle in!

Think that is selective memory there... don't remember many people saying Godden was a shit signing
This is the shit the CL is for tho, not manky fish puns or what’s your favourite biscuit. Im sure he’ll come good, but talking about 3.5m signings after one game is a breath of fresh air that I’ve rarely seen in the 15 years of posting on here, Exciting times.

Think it was more the heartbroken ones moaning about the fact that Jones was obviously inept as he couldn't see before his eyes that May should have won the Ballon D'or... Then the constant reminders everytime he sneezed...
It was like a lonely drunken late night voicemail to an ex lamenting the split and telling them how "they'll never do better" and will always love them.

You can’t judge a players potential ability from 2 poor games. Kone’s potential is more around his physical profile anyway, he is exactly what teams are looking for physically from a modern striker.
I’d also point out the game at the valley where Kone turned Jones and scored a great goal so you’re even wrong about that
No he didn't. He sent Alex Mitchell before placing it.
Can't call someone out when you haven't checked something like that, come on.
Fair enough, the point still stands though. You can’t judge a player of 2 games against us, if so then Kelman is shit as he did fuck all against us last season in the league
i don’t think we had a choice between Kone and Kelman, as Kone will always have had interest from more established teams. QPR had the choice between Kelman and Kone, and went with Kone
People within football recruitment circles are very excited about Kone. And I can see why based on his physical attributes. He’s going to be worth a hell of a lot more than QPR have just paid for him
QPR had to cash in on Kelman as he had a year left on his contract and wouldn’t extend it. The fee we paid was a no brainer for them.
Personally I’m not convinced by Kone, had a purple patch under Bloomfield and in the three games against us he didn’t look anything special.
Will Kelman come good? I don’t know but I’m willing to trust NJ and I’m sure he has a plan for him. It may just take a little while to come to fruition.
I really hope it works out for him - but I wasn't that excited when signing him, and hope he proves me wrong.. That being said, I wasn't excited about May signing, he did okay.. And I was very excited about Godden signing, and he did okay.
He needs time, but it is just the body language for me that annoys me!
Find the back of the net a few times, then it all goes away!
And I don't think Kone would have been a better signing.. I think he will flop as well.
Kone hasn't scored in his last 11 matches in League 1. Good job he's not playing for us because we'd be all over him like a rash with that run of form!
Is this a record for the quickest a player has been named a flop?
I don’t think anyone has called him a flop?
I think a fair few seem very worried, I think even Ahadme got a longer grace period. I personally think he will be ok, alongside a simpatico strike partner (which I assume will be Leaburn).

It’s got very little to do with goalscoring records after two competitive fixtures.
Why do you think you don’t see anyone having this same conversation about Olaofe?

You've forgotten the Charlton Life rules
1) Despite this being the Charlie Kelman thread, you're not allowed to discuss him here unless you're saying 100% positive things.
2) If you express any concerns about him, whether about the price, how the player suits our system, whether an alternative like Kone may have been a better buy, or indeed an alternative player in our squad (Miles, Tanto etc) might be more effective for how we play at the moment, then you are writing a player off after 2 games, and an idiot.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with discussing how a player might fit in. Questioning whether he's good enough after 96 minutes of competitive football, when one assumes NJ and the coaches have spent hours and hours analysing that player, is a whole different thing. Presumably NJ didn't just look at his goalscoring record when coming to that conclusion?
It seems that, even when things are going well, we always have to write that player off because he hasn't hit the ground running, be that scoring or otherwise. As time goes on, that questioning becomes more and more intense the longer he doesn't show something. Eventually he becomes what's known as "Charltonised". This is an example of someone who wrote May off very early has done exactly the same thing with Kelman on this thread:
My fears about him remain. Light weight and no real pace. Abankwah was terrible and he got no change out of him unlike Miles. Needs to take the first decent chance or face being benched.
The comparison with Kone, admittedly, complicates things. Only time will tell which player turns out better for their respective clubs but if Kelman scores 15-20 goals and we stay up then he will have done his job. There is no comparison with Olaofe because they are different - one scored 9 and the other got 21 - and the jobs are different as are the expectations as to what they might do on the pitch.
Personally, I thought he looked a bit off the pace but there could be any number of reasons for that. I don't intend to write him off until I've seen him play at least a dozen times. One thing I did like was the fact that he had the striker's instinct to nick the ball around the defender before that player got back to block the shot for a corner. Little acorns and all that.
So, just to be clear, there is no criticism of those discussing how best to fit him in. Suggesting that he isn't going to be good enough after 96 minutes in competitive football when the manager that got us promoted has decided otherwise seems somewhat premature. This is not a player that Duchatalet has burdened him with. That is why I made the comment about Kone not scoring for 11 games because if that happens to Kelman then only the good Lord that NJ believes in can save him!

As with NJ, I believe in the lad. And the more he reads and hears that people believe in him, the more confidence he will get.
Push on Charlie. Some of us are 100% behind you.
