Booking a driving test

  • I think that's the trouble, it's been monetised so it's the money that counts.
  • A fair rule of thumb for you:
Any Government thing that ends in “Agency” will be a mess up.

    Child Support (gone)
    Driving and vehicle licensing
    Food standards
    Highways
    etc etc

it just means the people in power have devolved the responsibility for running things properly to something anonymous.
  • The DVSA was VOSA/DSA amalgamated in 2014,.
During COVID the Driver side stopped working, and a huge backlog was created. The Civil Service ballooned to nearly 400k.
when things went back to “normal “ government wanted to cut the numbers. So through natural wastage people left.
To recruit and train a DE takes 6-9 months just to be able to conduct car testing, another 3 months to train for HGV/PSV, and similar time for Motorcycle.
Add in ADI testing, extended test for offenders who get 6points in the first two years and it starts to stack up.
Then erode the benefits, ( secure employment, decent pensions) the job becomes unattractive.

The office I worked out of was Belvedere.
The DEs had candidates who didn’t know how to start the car, English was a second language.
The test car was falling apart, no MOT, no VED.

They are threatened and called racist if the fail a person from ethnic minority’s. So BWC were introduced BUT ONLY to be switched on once an attack was in progress.
This happens on a regular basis.

The booking system was contracted out and then back in house, and I agree is a shambles.
I fortunately worked road side helping the MET CVU, doing inspections on HGV/PSV.

I hope that this gives you an insight.

PS Google the Minster for Transport since Grayling, none have been engaged in anything other than furthering their careers.
  • Most cop programmes I see on TV involves drivers without a licence.

I think I’m right in saying they often get penalty points on a licence that they don’t have.

As I said on another thread, the country is run by idiots.

That is correct, DVLA creates a “ghost “ license.
An example is if a foreign truck driver has a Polish license, the vehicle has a bald tyre (Polish vehicle) he gets 3points on his ghost license, £200 FPN AND the vehicle is prohibited until the defect is corrected.
Should he reach 12 points on his ghost licence he will be stopped from driving in the UK.
Provided of course he is detected by DVSA/Police Traffic Enforcement

Are you trying to tell me that Chris Grayling was the best, even of a bad bunch? If so, we are totally and utterly fcuked because that man is the dictionary definition of a waste of oxygen.
