Summer 2025 Charlton Athletic Transfer Rumours

  • I think it’s fair to question whether Apter will be able to play the same WB role that Small did.

What’s silly is thinking that NJ hasn’t thought this through. I think it’s very likely that we will be pleasantly surprised when we see how we’re setup on Saturday and that it will suit Apter perfectly.

Hmm...you've produced a heat map and some stats when he was playing for Northampton, that's not really conclusive.

Out of interest how does his heat map/stats compare with Conor Coventry? And how does it compare in the matches he played for Charlton and not Northampton Town? I'd prefer to compare like with like here - after all one team barely escaped relegation, the other got promoted so I think you might need a bit more than a gimmick to persuade me he's a better player than either of those two players

Still, good luck in persuading Nathan Jones to drop Doc or Coventry in favour of Terry Taylor...if you genuinely think he should be starting ahead of either Coventry or Doc then I'd like to see your reasoning, a few stats when playing for another club tell me absolutely nothing.

Ultimately they fit into NJ's system while TT doesn't, that's why I assume he was loaned out last season.

For me, Doc and Coventry start over him every time.

    No gimmicks, just data.

I was just using it cause you said you couldn't see him getting stuck in basically but his whole playstyle at Northampton was getting stuck in more or less.

Here's how he matches Coventry, not much in it, Coventry covers more of the pitch, Taylor is a deep lying playmaker. Coventry better defensive stats, Terry wins more duels marginally.

I think part of our 'lack of fluency' was partly down to the inconsistencies of Small; he might pull off an amazing turn and cut through 3 defenders once every 3-4 matches. He might put in a dangerous cross once a match of we were lucky.

As RWB it wasn't as if he was putting in crunching tackles on the opposition winger, he was busy using his pace to get in the way and wait for Ramsay to put the real tackle in. Curbs was always happy with the defensive effort put in by Rommedhal, he wasn't expected to make sliding challenges, just to put off the opposing fullback/winger and support defensively whilst providing a quick outlet.

Hopefully Apter will be capable of similar, harassing the opposition and trying to nick the ball and drive the team up the pitch as an outlet. It will be his more consistent attacking output that we'll be relying on to aid that extra fluency and creativity.

What Nathan Jones has done this window and since he joined the club is to recruit players to fit a system - defensively we were  tighter than a gnat's chuff last season and that will be the case this year although I'm not expecting 26 clean sheets or whatever it was. The defenders we've signed this window have that thin red line you will not get past me feel about them. Out wide he likes a bit of pace and some accuracy when crossing/shooting and everybody must have a bit of physique and be as well organised and possess the same work ethic work as a either Stakhanovite or last year's Sniffer Dog. He hasn't once ventured outside this template in any of the players he has signed.

Does Terry Taylor fit into his playing system? I don't see it, a shame he seems a good bloke and he's not devoid of talent just that he doesn't seem to be a square peg for a square hole. I don't see him scrapping for the ball in midfield in the manner of Coventry or Docherty

The problem is that any club coming in for him will be League One level and won't be able to match the same wages as we're currently paying him, so it's likely he'll be loaned out rather than sold unless he wants to take a pay cut.
    Poor Tezza.

What about goals? I notice you didn't show that stat. Or don't you think goals matter?

Last season, Doc was playing as the box-to-box midfielder. His stats as a holding midfielder might be completely different. Yes, they may be worse, but you don't know that.
I didnt post goals purposely as the original point was that FSLN didn't see Taylor battling for the midfield, his stats show he could definitely do that job.

Sorry but it's a bit daft to ask me if I don't think goals matter, of course they do, that's why I am so sold on Knibbs as all of our other midfielders combined couldn't get 10 between them
  • Lazy research from me, but has Apter ever played RWB for Blackpool?
Perhaps cause Blackpool never played with WB ?
So no history or experience in playing as a WB.

Square pegs in round holes.....again 🙄.
I know what you mean. It was so frustrating last season when we put our right back Ramsay at centre back, our winger TC up front and our left back Small at RWB and...proceeded to shoot up the table, finish 4th and get promoted via the Play-offs, losing a grand total of 4 games from the 30 we played once we'd started doing that.
Another belter from our mate Golfie. Season's not even started yet. Lovely stuff
    Shut up you melt.
Golfie, tell us who you don't rate ahead of Saturday. I've got a free £10 bet I need to use and will lump it on whoever you single out scoring a brace

If you don't like what he posts I suggest you just ignore it, rather than this childish nonsense.
No chance, he is firmly on the “pile in on Golfie” bandwagon despite the fact what Golfie said made perfect sense
At the risk of repeating myself, it’s not what he says most of the time, it’s his hilarious ability to be immediately proved wrong, all whilst acting like he’s the oracle.

Anyway, as I’ve said before I wouldn’t have it any other way

  • Conor Coventry our best player? People seem to forget that for the first half of the season he could barely manage a forward pass and was largely responsible for hoofball.
    What about Maclorg?

What about Maclorg, our vertically challenged U21 player.

Never appeared in first team to my knowledge. As a keeper he'd be hard pressed to make  backward passes and still be employed.

Showed themselves up the other day, doing it again today. I don’t get how a poster on a football forum can get someone so riled up and feel the need to be offensive when it is just so easy to scroll passed things. I’m only commenting on this again because it’s difficult to scroll passed the topic that has taken over the last however much of the thread. It’s boring, can we move on now?

I’m curious to see if we’ll sign anyone on loan. I admire the approach of signing young players permanently, not developing players for other clubs to benefit - but if the opportunity to loan a special player comes up, would we do it?

  • Anyway, did Apter play much at RWB for Blackpool?
No, but he has played at left wing-back for Tranmere at times during his loan the season before last.

Riled up? Not really. Mocking definitely.

I’m on an anonymous forum posting anonymously. Believe it or not this isn’t how I act in the real world. None of this actually gets to me. It’s an escape from the day to day. I enjoy it on here.

If you’re sad because someone with a strong opinion is being called out on it occasionally then might be worth you taking your own advice and ignoring it

I would be slightly surprised. I don't think at least with PL youngsters we're seen overly favourably given NJ doesn't seem to like loans.

If we did do something I would expect it to be within the championship for someone that's found themselves on the fringes of a squad but has experience at this level.
