That's why players with vision become more valuable the higher the level, they are the ones who can thread the needle and unlock the opponents.
The better your players are with the ball, the more aware the opposition become, that's where the time comes from. Unfortunately we don't have anyone like that at the club, but hopefully as we grow we will start recruiting the kind.
Closest we have is Conor, but he isn't going to open teams up with a pass. Some of our other passers are gonna open a lot of chances for other teams imo, and it's something we may need to get used to for a bit while we adjust.1 -

More time on the ball in the Championship 🤔
Maybe it depends where you are on the field or who you are playing because some games we will struggle to get 35% unless our new players are better at ball retention because we will get hurt at this higher level and knackered if we are chasing the ball for most of the 100 minutes or say 65% of the time. Even with 16 players being used over the duration.
CAFC are stepping up a division and we have to be better on the ball.

I don't get the love in for Terry Taylor...
He came in for Coventry, when Conor was suspended, and performed adequately. Nothing spectacular, but adequately...
When Coventry was brought back, Jones tried to play them in tandem. It was a disaster. So much so, that many on here were claiming that Jones should be sacked after the Crawley game. Which was, every one seems to be forgetting, the last time Taylor wore a Charlton Shirt.
I get we need cover for Coventry. But we should, and I hope will, be looking at better than Taylor...10 -
Getting more time on the ball as you move up used to be something people said back in the day, and there was probably some truth to it, because teams didn’t press uniformly from the front. So, any player attempting a one-man press would be easily bypassed by the better players. These days, you have fitter players, better coaches, and more organised teams. Our defenders are going to be under pressure as soon as we play that ball out.I don’t think any of these signings are significantly raising the level. I think Jones’ tactics might be just enough to scrape by, but it’s going to be hard to watch.6

Are people aware that TT has played in 13 league games for Charlton in 2 years? I really don't get the love he gets.

Whatever league you are in, If it looks like players have more time on the ball, it's all down to skill level and knowing where to find that time, The Championship will show up anyone failing in these skills big time...🤷♂️0

TT's passing is arguably a lot better and more probing than Coventry's, but I don't think NJ wants a deep-lying playmaker in that role because we don't play through the lines.8

At 24, he should be getting better. Whether his injuries have
stymied his progression remains to be seen.
The biggest advantage Taylor has is that he is already our player and is known to be of excellent character. Northampton thought the world of him. Were he not already ours, we would not think of acquiring him. But he is, and that counts for a lot.5 -

I believe his words were along the lines of "I heard this all the time and when I got to the Premier League, I had Steven Gerrard and Crespo trying to break my legs".3 -
RWB please.
Dont want to waste Apter there, even if he played there a few times for Blackpool. He will be needed further forward.

We play wingbacks a 10 and 2 strikers.
He's not a 10 and he's not a striker.11 -

You won't get more time on the ball, the game will be quicker, the press will be be more intense, it may look like more time as the better players are more technical and the first touch rather than two to control the ball buys the time.
As you go up the leagues it's less technical and more the physical attributes and most importantly the ability to play under pressure and make the right decisions under that pressure.
I never once stepped up a level and had more time, you just adapt or you don't.
Taylor won't play under Jones consistently because he doesn't have the legs to consistently press at this level.2 -

I’m finding it surprising the number of people who still haven’t realised Apter is our first choice RWB for the next 46 league games

So I'm not talking about a Jan Molby style visionary, I'm talking about every player having that skill in their arsenal to a higher level. Whilst Jones may not want what some would deem a luxury player, he'll want all his players to have the requisite vision.0 -
