New book on terrace culture featuring CAFC

I've written a book about football culture in Argentina from the perspective of following my second team around the world.

I was sucked into San Lorenzo because, like us, they were made homeless in the 1980s and forced to play at rivals' stadiums. Valley Party-esque fan movements effectively kept the club alive and are still ongoing as they fight to return to the neighbourhood they lost at the hands of the military dictatorship.

Because of my route into the club, the book contains precisely 24 mentions of the mighty Addicks – including a reference to this very forum. Some very kind CL members chipped in to a fan campaign to buy back the land in the neighbourhood, which helped remove the French supermarket chain Carrefour from the site. Here’s the original thread:  https://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/68850/new-article-back-to-the-valley-south-america-style-support-san-lorenzo-fans

Anyway, ‘Oh, San Lorenzo: A Journey through Argentine Football Culture’ is out with Pitch Publishing in October and if you pre-order on Waterstones before Thursday 31st, you get 25% off. Just enter SUMMER25 at checkout. I can’t say I enjoy the selling/promotion side of things, but given the Charlton connections and previous interest on here, I thought I’d leave a link just in case. It includes tales from Argentina's chaotic terraces, travel, groundhopping and a sprinkle of history and politics:

Here’s an old pic with two of the numerous San Lorenzo fans who have followed Charlton home and away with me over the years. Up the Addicks and vamos San Lorenzo.

  • Great stuff fella.👊👍👏
  • Nice one @Neil_Heaney, have placed an order.
  • @Neil_Heaney

If Pitch can spare a review copy I'll review it in the programme before adding it to the museum library
  • Just in time for payday tomorrow. I’ll be ordering - good luck @Neil_Heaney
  • Hi @Neil_Heaney, I know this is not the most welcome question, but do you expect it will be available on Kindle? Unfortunately since Brexit, even something as innocuous as a paperback book is subject to "inspection" ( a revenue-raising racket) by the Czech customs.  I tried to get the Private Eye Annual from Waterstones for Christmas and it got stuck there.

It sounds like a really interesting book so I'll get it eventually when I'm over, but if it's coming on Kindle it'll be best for me.
  • Thanks @SoundAsa£ and really appreciate the orders @Er_Be_Ab_Pl_Wo_Wo_Ch / @The Red Robin. Very kind.

Likewise @Henry Irving, I’ll definitely try and get you a review copy come October. @PragueAddick thanks for the interest – it will indeed be coming out on Kindle so that saves delivery hassle.
  • Today is the last day to get 25% off the pre-order at Waterstones (enter SUMMER25 at checkout) for anyone interested:
