Kelman is quite similar in style to Kanu (though obviously a lot better). If we sign him I’d assume that frees up Kanu to go out on loan, with Mbick maybe staying around as a physical option to bring off the bench if any of our strikers are unavailable

So we would have 2 starting and 3 on the bench from Godden, Leaburn, Kelman, Olaofe and TC

Mbick in the U21s but if any of the above are unavailable he makes the bench

I'm still to be convinced Kanu will ever be up to the job.
Think he will be a great jobbing L1 striker. If he’d had a better environment around him at the club he had potential to do more but NJ came in too late for him I think

I’d say his current level is league 1 and he’s still only 20 so plenty of time to improve. Could easily see him developing into a championship striker, but probably only for a team that plays a front 2 (luckily we do)

A loan with consistent game time in league 1 would be ideal for him. Last season was a bit of a wasted season though he was unlucky with injuries

Wonder what we’d pay for Kelman? Last year of contract, but the League 1 golden boot winner. They clearly don’t rate him highly enough to keep or is Kelman not willing to sign a contract extension?
    £2m?

Agree, ideally he gets regular football in L1 on a season long loan and we assess where we are as a club vs where he is and go from there.

His contract runs until 2027 so little risk other than more difficulty in extending it if he has an outstanding 25/26 season.

I for one am excited about the prospect of signing the League One top goal scorer from last season. Not sure how you couldn't tbh
Yep - obvs we aren’t going to get a proven 25 goal a season championship striker so whoever we get is a gamble. Gambling on League One’s top scorer stepping up is as good as it gets at this stage for us.

So am i but yet to be convinced it's not all nonsense. Kelman is a quality player and is just what we need.

I think , if it's true , QPR will be looking for more than 2mil.

Apart from forums, I haven’t seen us linked with Kelman..

I am not sure he is a championship player. From what I have seen, he is slow, touch not that great, not very good in the air. Looks an okay finisher.. I am sure someone going to send some stats on him.
I think I get what you’re saying here.  Neither Kelman or Godden are the sort that will beat 3 men and smash it home from 25 yards.  They are both sniffers.

Godden works defenders really hard but it’s all about his instinctive positioning thst makes him what he is.  I notice with a lot of Kelman’s goals last season he was in the right place to finish rather than creating it himself.

i must admit I am warming to Kelman a little more but still have concerns it’s too big a step for him.  I wonder if we’ll find out soon

It makes for a decent mix of risk, youth and experience with Kelman, Leaburn, Godden and Olaofe all competiting for one or two striker spots. Two big uns, two little.

I know we've had to reassess our rank as a club in recent times but can we please stop digging out *LEYTON ORIENT* like they're some kind of rival. I've never felt more small fry. Cheers.

Reckon it will all be on the sell on fee , still cost us 1.7 to 2 mill up front

if we did get kelman.. then we'd have
    tanto
    leaburn
    Campbell
    godden
    kelman
    kanu/mbick

all fighting for 2 places..that seems alot to me.. could we sell someone ? Campbell would seem the most obvious, not sure on his contract situation? final year, cash in?

i could see Jones liking a Tanto/Leaburn partnership
Last few months of last season Campbell was pretty awful , he seemed to have been found out and had no plan b to his game , watching pre- season again not really seem him.. think this is a concern going into the season ??
Agreed. Particularly the Huddersfield home game. Absolutely dreadful that day…..

Weird one with Kelman. If signed he would be Goddens apprentice I’d imagine. Very similar play-styles as mentioned above. They’re also good friends or certainly talk to one another. Kelmans interview after the playoff first leg with Stockport confirms this.

I did think we would go for a target man type. I do worry the step up would be too much for Kelman but we shall see.

    Forward options of:

    Godden
    Olaofe
    Kelman
    Leaburn
    Kanu/Mbick

Isn’t half bad but it’s just that lack of championship experience/no how which would concern me.

It is on Kelmans end, I have now heard this from a Leyton Orient fan (who seems to know a fair bit) and QPR fans are saying it on their socials and forum.

It sounds like he wants out and doesn't want the contract extension.

Personally I am buzzing if it goes ahead. He was the best striker in the league last season, as much as I love Matty, and as it's been said many times, what a player to train with and show him how it's done. Kelman is only 23, nowhere near his prime, could well improve on the quality he already has.

To anyone thinks he's slow, I would suggest watching his clips on YouTube, he's no slouch at all, and he's a fantastic finisher.

Really hope this is a goer.
If Godden can teach him to time his jumps to win more headers then he’d be a ridiculously good player
