+++ Rob Apter signs on four year deal +++
Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of Rob Apter from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old scored eight goals and provided eight assists for the Tangerines last season after a successful spell on loan at Tranmere Rovers in 2023/24, during which he was named EFL League Two Young Player of the Season, contributing 13 goals and six assists in that campaign.
Apter has signed a four-year contract with the Addicks to become Nathan Jones’ seventh signing of the summer following the arrivals of Sonny Carey, Thomas Kaminski, Tanto Olaofe, Amari’i Bell, Reece Burke and Joe Rankin-Costello.
Apter, who has joined his new teammates at the club’s pre-season training camp in Slovenia, said: "I’m made up to sign for this massive club and I can’t wait to play in front of you fans at The Valley. As soon as I spoke to the gaffer I knew it was the place for me - everything about the project is so exciting. I feel like I’m ready to play at Championship level now and I want to step up and show everyone what I can do."
Manager Nathan Jones added: "Rob's exactly the type of player that we want to sign for Charlton Athletic - he's young, athletic, has a high ceiling and is a really technical player who had a fantastic season last year and did really well against us. He's an exciting player that can score and assist, and a player that will fit into our structure really, really well."
Born in Liverpool, Apter began his youth career at Tranmere before joining Blackpool, where he made his senior debut in November 2020. He recorded an assist on his Championship bow - a 5-0 win away to Wigan Athletic in 2021 - before enjoying a series of successful loan spells. The left-footer has represented Scotland at youth level and was most recently capped by their U21s.

Exactly the type of player profile I hoped we'd target. Very exciting signing and again kudos to the owners for seriously backing NJ with that kind of fee.13

Interesting that there's absolutely no reference to his position in the interview, either with Jones or in the narrative. Jones described Bell as a left-sided centre back and JRC as a centre mid so we know how they'll generally be used but other than Apter apparently fitting the structure well there's nothing. Maybe Jones doesn't even know exactly where he'll use him yet7

Very happy with the signing. As impressed as I am unimpressed with the club videos of the buildup on X!
He's quite a few inches shorter than NJ!1 -

Wherever he plays he sounds very exciting, if TC kicks on and Olaofe does the business that's a forward line that will cause headaches for defenders even without the sniffer dog Godden and/or Leaburn as other options.4 - Sponsored links:

It might suggest RWB, as it would look odd if he comes in and NJ immediately talks about sticking a goalscoring winger at WB. But we know if he plays there he’ll have a lot of freedom and we’d be switching to a back four when in possession.
Looking forward to seeing him play.9 -

Quite a lot of the established Champ clubs fans have been pretty impressed in a " solid, smart signings" kind of way over on Reddit, in fact, the only fans I've seen who have been largely unimpressed have been everybody's favourite Welsh club.....
When the likes of Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Brizzie etc are saying we've been doing good business we must be doing something right.19 -
What's the alleged transfer fee? Seen some Blackpool fans say it's close to 3m + a sell on fee.0

Excited by this one and curious to see where he plays. My guess is he’ll play RWB with other players (JRC, Ramsay?) playing there when we need something more defensively solid. I’d be interested to see him as a 10 too but think Carey is earmarked to challenge Berry there1

Great signing, just the sort of signing we should be making. Welcome to Charlton Rob.
But that reveal? WTF?2
