  • Rankin-Costello has always looked decent from what I’ve seen of him, played a fair amount of football and a position we need! His name does sound like a crap 80’s musical pairing though

Think Rankin-Costello is probably a bit unlucky at Blackburn that one of their better players is their other RB in Callum Brittain. Interesting he's another one that can also play in midfield if needed.

Don't know if I'd call him a wow signing but he's a good solid championship player.

Rankin-Costello is similar to Galbraith in the sense that he can play RWB and invert into midfield. Nixon obviously not the most reliable but can see why we’d be in for him

Maybe NJ sees Anderson as the 8. He played there a few times last season. He would need a big improvement mind, particularly retaining possession more.
I think Enslin will overtake all our other young hopefuls from January onwards. Fast and great ball control. Likes a tackle too.

Anyone know Rankin-Costello injury record? Seen a few Blackburn fans mention it as an issue

Played 25-30ish league games for the last 3 seasons, not stunning but not awful as he wasn't a guaranteed starter

Mate is a Blackburn fan. When I asked about JRC he said ‘decent enough but injury prone.’

Really rated JRC when I’ve seen him. But if it happens, I’m slightly concerned we’ve signed three injury prone players in a row. The main reason we went up last year was a consistent team who didn’t get injured.

Apparently it’s Hindolo Mustapha that we are after on loan not Jesse Derry. I think that would be a good signing. Had a very good season last year for Crystal Palace u21s and has been attracting interest from Pompey as well.

Same rubbish source, would be very surprised

Derry is a free agent no?

3 goals and 1 assist last season for Brum. Hardly a creative spark.
Looking into it more he only started 10 league games for Birmingham, the other 19 league appearances were as a sub.

I don’t see where he fits in with Carey and Berry competing for the attacking midfield spot, and that does seem to be his role rather than a box to box or defensive CM like Docherty.

If it does happen it must be because we see a lot of potential in him as we have more obvious gaps elsewhere.

Yeah I agree, didn’t he have a few good games when in that role last season? It helped him as he didn’t have the responsibility of being the most attacking midfielder in the midfield three.

I think that’s where he’ll ultimately end up as he’s got the energy to press and get box to box, but doesn’t have some of the strengths you’d want in the other central midfield roles.

Think the rankin-Costello one does actually have legs to it
    Hopefully two.

Looks like the ultimate utility player in FM, can cover every except GK and up front. Looks like he could be signed to play CM or RWB. Maybe that would be the intention depending on who we’re playing and who’s available.

Should he sign I hope Costello proves to be more successful than Abbott.

I don't see us spending money on Drameh, when we have Ramsay likely to start? Especially Burke presumably going in at RCB.

Unless it's a sensible fee (200/300k). But would they want to strengthen a rival?
    Ramsey will start as RCB..

Could be bs but this fan seems quite certain it's on.

Don’t know much about JRC but seems a reasonable signing. No complaints from me.
  • We were heavily linked with Will Goodwin before. He went to Oxford instead, now he's on loan to league 2 Colchester

The difference is, we have a Dr and health specialists that no other professional football clubs seem to have.

This is the way it is unfortunately. We are a low budget championship team now, any championship quality players that are fit all the time will have offers better than ours realistically

When we were in league 1 we were nearer the top of the food chain so could sign the better league 1 players that also have good fitness records. We are now at the bottom of the championship food chain

To get real championship quality we have to take a few gambles with injuries like we are with Burke and Bell. And then mix that in with players that will stay fit from league 1 that we think can step up like Olaofe and Carey

Not sure what to think about spending fees on both Costello and Burke. Obviously squad depth is important but with the limited budget we have would have preferred all the money be spent on the starting XI especially since one of those will be benched for Ramsay at wingback or RCB. Think we’re crying out for a box to box midfielder, Edwards cover and another proven attacker ahead of cover on the right side but oh well either all in or not on Nathan Jones

Blackburn are apparently signing a right back Ryan Alebiosu, think that clears room for Costello to depart

I doubt it was a big fee for Burke, Luton probably happy to shift any players off the wage bill at the moment.

We desperately need a RWB, probably the most important position to get the recruitment right on, so if Costello is who we want then pay the money

Still think there will be money available for those other positions. I think on transfer fees our budget is fine but wage bill will be lagging behind other championship clubs in this first season back up

What is wrong with you philistines?! Joe Rankin-Costello for years was an inevitability on Football Manager. I must have signed him on loan or on a free for a newly promoted Prem team more times than Lloyd Jones has won a header. An absolute must for that reason alone

Rankin-Costello could be coming in with central midfield or RWB in mind. I can’t see us paying what looks to be a fairly big fee (for us) for him to come in to be back up. He’s got plenty of Championship experience so will be on decent wages too.

Probably Bell. Maybe we'll sign a RWB who can cover for Edwards, a Watson-type player.

Costello sounds like a jack of all trades, mater of none.
perhaps NJ has a fixed role in mind for him

Not sure how much of a fee we would be paying for someone who only started 11games last year
