Hated him. Got sick of his comments and the way he looked down on the working class of this country, whilst filling his boots with one day directorships of companies.
Had a few friends who committed suicide due to his government's evil policies.
Hated the unions and the people they represented. But as Blackpool said, you could reel of the cabinet even that long ago, rather than the spineless clowns in charge today.
I don't think he hated the working class at all (which his family was), more the non- working class, and he also didn't have a lot of time for the upper class tory party.
I lived through his term in office, and was a union official in the dockyard, and he sneered at us and was flippant when they shutdown the yards and made thousands redundant.
He didn't give a shit and was so far up thatchers arse it was sickening.
he was a union official himself at BALPA.
Then he should have known better. Night after night he was moaning about greedy unions whilst nicely being on figurehead of companies at 100k a pop.
So this is going to turn into another Right v Left slanging match is it?
Not really. I had no admiration for the man when he was alive as I believe he did more damage than good and was an unlikeable character. He’s passed now so RIP

Don't think anyone has crossed any lines, just people' sharing their thoughts about him sad he has died but also sad some of the grief his policies caused some people.

Not from you maybe, I just meant the general thread. Politicians these days are quite different to those 30 or 40 years ago. And I don't mean in a good way
Politicians back then did have some conviction. These days, Lib/Lab/Con politicans are completely interchangable. Liz Truss was a lib dem.
to a certain extent this is true of some maybe many
with all the intrusions, poking into every element of their current and earlier lives and the security risks, sadly many people who would make great MPs would never consider a career in politics
Was part of a government that oversaw an increase in unemployment from 1.5 million when they took over to 3.3 million by 1984 and then stigmatised and scapegoated the unemployed as scroungers, implying they should just get on their bikes and go looking for work. Then set to work on moving the goalposts by changing the definition of "unemployed" for statistical purposes. I am not absolutely anti-Thatcher, but I can't let your post go unchallenged. They promoted an every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost selfish mentality that has never really gone away. There was no room or kindness for the disadvantaged
Never once saw him smile…..a stoney faced miserable bastard of the first order. A clever, intelligent man, who sadly put his gifts of communication to poor use.
@Gisappointed I think you should consider editing your post. It doesn't reflect well on you or on Charlton Life.
"A large proportion of Britain's Asian population fail to pass the cricket test. Which side do they cheer for? It is an interesting test. Are you still harking back to where you came from or where you are? I think we have got real problems in that regard."
If thats not a racist cnut, you should come down to my pub and meet his acolytes decades later. At 71 I really have to hold my tongue to not be beaten up.
What's worse is we have a PM, supposedly is a Labour politician who claims the UK is "an island if strangers".
A supposed Human Rights lawyer spouting racist right wing propaganda, found wanting of his defence of genocide in Gaza, due to bringing his children up in the Jewish faith.
Incidentally, I was born in Australia but support our football and cricket sides, but I dont begrudge Indians or Carribeans supporting their roots. FFS our Royal family are Germans.

You should be ashamed of yourself. What an ignorant remark. If he wasn't your favourite person you could just scroll down or move on ..I really do find some of these remarks embarrassing
All for free speech, freedom of expression. But with those two privileges comes a degree of responsibility. While robust language can make a real impact. Abuse someone and the message is lost.

I read a quote today in a newspaper.
The real enemies of the working class don’t arrive in a small boat. They fly in by private jet.’
Tories tell you otherwise. Please tell me one section of society that haven't experienced falling living standards through a decade and a half (and more to come under Reeves) but have actually flourished.

RIP Norman.

Embarrassing.
