To be fair to the lad I don't think any of us know if he's any good or not. Barely saw himJohnnyH2 said:11 -
If he couldn't get into our mediocre L1 team a year ago, it's hard to believe he will be up to playing in the Championship a year later.Pelling1993 said:

When we did, he wasn't playing in his normal position.Pelling1993 said:

He's played 9 games in Serie A for Udinese this season eho are currently 9th in the division. I reckon he could actually handle League 1killerandflash said:

Didn't get a fair chance with us3 -
He's certainly a strange one. He's started one game and come on as sub in another half a dozen or so Serie A matches for Udinese who paid something like £700,000 for him. Coincidentally, he's actually 21 today so when he came to us he was still only 19 when he joined us and the man that thought it best for him to return to Italy was sacked himself a matter of weeks later by us and hasn't found a manager's position since.killerandflash said:

We signed him to play RCB in a 3, sacked the manager and got a new one that played a 4. He did ok in a couple of games at right back but to me didn’t look physically ready for league 1 to be a centre back in a 4. Ironically, after he went back, we sacked another manager and ended up playing a back 3 again!Swisdom said:

Important to remember Udinese & Watford have the same owners so this could easily be a book balancing move8

Not sure the bloke played a single game in his actual position did he? Was always at Right Back if I recall correctly.1

Good tackle. Got the ball.2

Seems to be playing really well for Watford and got himself in the Ireland squad, loan was either too early or this is another indictment on Appleton6

Mate is a Watford season ticket holder and says he's one of their best players atm1

Did still lose to Millwall at the weekend, can leave Charlton but Charlton will never leave you8

That’s shocking! Shouldn’t be allowed near a football pitch again!!sam3110 said:I’m talking about the commentator btw who thinks that was a “late tackle”. Nothing wrong with it at all, good hard tackle taking the ball.2 -
I reckon failure in the move to us was a mixture of being a season too early, and having to play under Appleton.5

Young Centre Back syndrome.Be careful not to write them off too early.11

Was signed to play in a back 3 and Appleton came in and played a 4. One less spot at centre back available and he didn’t look physically ready to be a CB in a 4. Would imagine he’s much physically stronger now, I remember watching him at Stevenage away and he was struggling physically at right backsam3110 said:I reckon failure in the move to us was a mixture of being a season too early, and having to play under Appleton.0 -

Waste of time running all that way at speed if you then deliver a shit ball1

The last time I saw Abankwah on TV he got sent off (I think it may have been his Watford debut).
I saw him again today. he was sent off again.0 -
Just realised… he’ll be returning to the Valley for the opening game of the season.
Will he receive a warm welcome? I notice a lot of people on this thread thanking him for the memories.7 -

You're having a laugh, have you seen how many minutes he played for us?!

Probably not, he was only on loan at Watford. I don’t think he’s signed for them permanently?Callumcafc said:Just realised… he’ll be returning to the Valley for the opening game of the season.

He’s with them for pre-season apparently. I’d imagine a deal will be done, maybe July 1st for accounting purposesScoham said:
