I also still have faith in Alex Mitchell if he gets his chance, think he is slightly underrated on here.
We will be up against it most games in the Champ, especially away, and he is very sound defensively. We will need pure defenders in certain games (Sheff United, Norwich, Southampton away etc) can forget about all that playing sexy football malarkey.18 -

Secondlyhis passing is poor
and he’s not brilliant in the air despite his size
It may be that league one is his level. I suspect a pacy striker from the championship will make him look very silly. I hope I’m wrong because I like him as a guy, but I just think he is too limited for championship football26 -
I think Mitchell will be very quickly found out in the Championship, he was barely world beating in League 1. Poor on the ball, poor pace, and isn't enough of a proper destroyer to compensate for that from what I've seen anyway.9
-
Alex Mitchell is a weird one , the way Lincoln fans raved about him I expected a bit more? I wonder if we are still interested in Wickens if Alex could be involved in that deal? They've lost Roughan and O'Connor at the back and their fans absolutely love Alex.6
-
Famewo is the type of centre half we need - be happy with that - power and mobility to compliment what we have12
-
I did wonder , would I be okay if he was used in games where we were going to be massively under the cosh and I'm not really sure? Championship sides are more clever than to just launch it in the box or barrage us with long throws for most of the gameSwisdom said:

Absolutely can't fault his character or anything that he brings off the field but if Lloyd Jones got injured again for a couple of months I'd have massive worries about how Alex would cope in the middle of the 3. What I'd give for someone with the profile of a Leon Cort

Nice to see that Famewo is a case where he's simply Out of Contract and is still wanted by Sheff Wed.
If they'd simply released him themselves, you'd find the rumour a bit questionable, but if a Championship rival want to keep him (Partly because they're limited by who they can bring in), then that in itself has to be a little bit of a positive.5 -
Got no problems at all with the Famewo deal. Championship experience in a position we need options. Not every signing we make is going to blow everyone's socks off but Famewo on a free is a good bit of business. Hopefully the injuries he had last season were just a blip.7
-
Decent signing on a free transfer.
Allows us to focus our budget on attacking / creative players like DKD & Galbraith.
We need both!6 -
Cawley’s latest podcast is out.

Sheffield Wednesday can only offer Famewo up to 7k a week. If we really want him then I think we can get him2
-
He is no quicker or slower than any of our centre backs of any significance, I am not counting Ramsay as he is a full back by trade and more of an athletic profile.Swisdom said:

His passing is almost the same as any other defenders at Charlton, marginal differences, particularly Macca and Jones. It's actually becoming a bit of a myth that he can't pass, and I think people are saying it because that is what they hear other people say.
Finally you don't need pace when you are sitting deep at Sheffield United, Leicester, Norwich, etc, you need tough defenders who won't get bullied. He will be a good back up option and with him being young, has time to improve.
I'll add our defenders passing metrics in a spoiler just so you can see how close it is, but his bad passing is genuinely well over talked/mentioned. Similar passing stats to most centre backs who aren't renowned for 'ball playing ability'.
Anyway it is the rumours thread, point was with our limited funds, I am not too bothered about central defenders.

If Alex Mitchell is playing more than the odd minutes to see out games then we are in big trouble. Would rather see Zack Mitchell in the team than Alex.Braziliance said:I also still have faith in Alex Mitchell if he gets his chance, think he is slightly underrated on here.

We will need pure defenders in certain games (Sheff United, Norwich, Southampton away etc) can forget about all that playing sexy football malarkey. He’s a good defender but that isn’t enough, he isn’t dominant enough to play the middle CB role at this level, and putting him RCB in the championship could really expose him with lack of pace and 1v1 defending, and that’s before we even start on him on the ball!2 -
You would start Mitchell in certain games when it’s going to be a nasty game .. problem is people expect to see him spray passes about from defence that’s not his game like asking Les Berry or Jimmy Giles to play passing football .. win it clear it simple defending ..NabySarr said:

My only concern about Famewo would be his injury record.8

I know it was only one game but Mitchell had a shocker against Preston and looked like he was running through treacle. He could have put in loads of work over the summer, improved his reactions and a bit of pace for all we know but at the moment it’s a no from me. He isn’t as quick as Jones and Gillesphey and he isn’t as positional sound as either of them, which makes up for them not being lightning quick either0

There were some poor back passing decisions from Mitchell, but otherwise I thought he was pretty much OK.
I don’t think he was poor so much as overtaken.
He will be a decent enough member of the squad next season.5 -
Bar Campbell on loan from Luton and Dixon that squad 12 months ago was done and dusted before they went off to SloveniaDucktapeshoerepairs said:
Needs to happen ? In an ideal world, yes. But, no one will have their entire squads complete in 2 weeks time, it’s not the way football worksgolfaddick said:
The 99/00 team stormed the Championship that season as we only lost Danny Mills from the side thay had previously got relegated.DamoNorthStand said:Numbers is obviously important to a point, its more about quality in for me.
5/6 sounds ok tbh. If we get players in who genuinely impact the first XI.
Remember when we got promoted to the Prem in 99/00. We really only added Jensen, JJ, Kish.... plus Bartlett and Fish during the season. But they impacted and added something.
We are so off putting a 20 man squad together that can see us stay up next season its worrying.
The back 5 is pretty good & although we wont keep 20+ clean sheets this time around I have faith that they will keep enough to keep us competitive.
But then it all falls down.
Imo we need a playmaker in midfield (maybe we have one in our one & only signing so far ?) and a couple of wide men (one to replace Small and one cover for TC). Then we need at least 2, if not 3 strikers to replace Aneke, Ahadme, Kanu & Mbick.
For me we need at least 6 new players, and more like 8 or 9.
Probably wont happen. But if it does it needs to happen within the next 2 weeks. No point going to a training camp with half your starting 11 missing.

Patterson/Famewo .. IF it came to a choice, Famewo, NO, Patterson, YES .. An experienced 'all rounder' would be like signing two players i m o (very unlikely though)
Patterson has been offered a new contract at S W, thing is though, what's the point if he will never get paid ??0 -

Surely we are going to announce a signing today. We can’t make it a month of Fridays without a signing!Pre-season and Slovenia soon, so only two more Fridays to announce signings.I’ll hit the ‘worry’ button if we don’t announce today but not quite the ‘panic’ button - as I do think we need a lot of surgery upfront and in midfield to stay up.0
-
Mitchell is not up to it IMO. He also wants to play most games. Id definitely consider using him to get some of the better players from league one in.7
-
The wide forwards that play in the championship coming up against Alex Mitchell 1v1 is a scary prospect. He isn’t quick or agile enough to play in the championship as a wide centre back. He is better suited to the middle but he’s not dominant enough because he’s not as big as you probably need to be for middle of a back 3. Millwall came to the same conclusion that he wasn’t a championship player, he’s a solid league 1 defender and nothing more. Was barely getting a game for us in league 1 and I’d be surprised if he is still here in SeptemberBraziliance said:

Also those passing stats don’t really show much. For example Gillesphey is asked to play a lot of long passes with higher risk so will lose the ball more. He isn’t anywhere near as capable with the ball as Jones and in particular Gillesphey are, that’s obvious to anyone that’s watched them play. He doesn’t make progressive passes like Jones and Gillesphey can, can’t bring the ball into midfield. He’s very limited with the ball, that doesn’t mean he loses it loads (though there’s definitely a few examples where he has and it’s cost us) but he’s doesn’t do much with it compared to all our other options5 -

I don't know where this Mitchell is slow nonsense has come from, he's not blistering fast but he's certainly not slow. From memory he's quicker than marginally quicker than Jones and slower than Ramsay... Other complaints on him are valid and I won't comment on but this pace thing is rubbish.4

Mine is that he's incredibly average.LargeAddick said:My only concern about Famewo would be his injury record.1 -
Jones plays in the middle where pace is a lot less important. Mitchell playing on the right he will end up 1v1 against wide forwards, if you look at some of the attackers we will be up against next season, you don’t want any of them running at Alex Mitchell!LTKapal said:I don't know where this Mitchell is slow nonsense has come from, he's not blistering fast but he's certainly not slow. Not writing it off and I know he was here under completely different management and ownership. But it just seems so underwhelming that after everything, new manager new head of recruitment that we’re getting linked with old players from a frankly crap era of our history. Why not go the whole hog and get Stockley and JFC back as well8

Cawley hasn’t had any denial on Olaofe which he said tends to suggest there’s at least some substance to it. Also confirms Millwall have a big sell on.Scoham said:Cawley’s latest podcast is out.

On Tornqvist the Swedish GK he suggested it could be too random for nothing to be in it, but it could be agent driven to increase interest in him.It may be that we were offered him and said we’d take a look, which suddenly turns into we’re interested.
On the fee it would be £1.5m and that comes with big wages, so it would be a stretch for us but not impossible.
He’s also unconvinced we’ll look abroad for signings. I take from that we’d have it really want him for it to happen.2 -
Yes... Because someone who has been playing in the Championship in recent seasons, is comparable to Stockley / JFCAberystwythAddick said:Not writing it off and I know he was here under completely different management and ownership. I guess we'll need to avoid Maatsen for the same reason if we were linked?
Really dont want us going after Gomez / Konsa / Lookman given how bad things were under Roland14
