IIRC Rotherham signed about a team of players early last season, how did it work for them 🤣

Weirdly, I thought they were one of the best sides we played last year. Strange. Obviously not consistent enough.

    Personally I don't think 6/7 is enough.
It can be if they’re all upgrades on the current starting 11.

And as long as none of them a) get injured, b) get tired or c) drop out of form. In a 46 game season.

All about opinions but I only really rate Ramsey, Jones, Edwards, TC and Coventry as able to step up to The Championship as regulars.  Assume Carey will too and that would make 6.  Bring in another 6-7 means our squad of decent Championship players is tiny. Plus we cannot afford for any of those bought in to not work out.
    I think TC will struggle

If Jones and Chapple are struggling with recruitment they can perhaps look no further than seeking the help of Acworth who has presented an extensive list to help them.

    https://x.com/23gamer45/status/1938234760054067530

Highlights on the list include Ben Purrington, Albie Morgan, Jordan Cousins, Benik Afobe last seen playing in the Qatari 2nd division, and 39 year old Billy Sharp.
    Legend in his own lifetime.

Rodwell interviewed on Sky Sports News this afternoon said he expects 6 or 7 new signings to be made.
If that's the case it's going to be a long old season  :o

So 6/7 in probably translates to 5/6.  Let’s be optimistic and say 6 new bodies in.

But we should also factor 1 or 2 more out.

Coupled with the 5(?) out already confirmed is likely a small deficit managed by promotions. From the youth team.

So it’s the quality of the incomings alone which we need to be concerned with.

I thought they changed manager because they were not doing well and eventually finished bottom half

Looks like Josh Mulligan is going to Hibs. Personally doubt he was ever on our radar.

Numbers is obviously important to a point, its more about quality in for me.

5/6 sounds ok tbh. If we get players in who genuinely impact the first XI.

Remember when we got promoted to the Prem in 99/00. We really only added Jensen, JJ, Kish.... plus Bartlett and Fish during the season. But they impacted and added something.

I think Kiely signed that summer too.

He signed at the start of the 99/00 season after we were relegated.

I can only see Ramsay, Jones, Edwards and Coventry (perhaps) as shoe in starters. Some may shout "Godden" but he is 34 at KO and his last stint at this level yielded 6 in 35.

The rest, perhaps Mannion jury out, barely performed at L1 level.
Well if Godden isn't a "shoe in" starter than we need to buy another 3 or 4 strikers because apart from (an injured) Leaburn we have no other striker who is going to get anywhere near double figures 🤷‍♂️.

The 99/00 team stormed the Championship that season as we only lost Danny Mills from the side thay had previously got relegated.

We are so off putting a 20 man squad together that can see us stay up next season its worrying.

The back 5 is pretty good & although we wont keep 20+ clean sheets this time around I have faith that they will keep enough to keep us competitive.

But then it all falls down.

Imo we need a playmaker in midfield (maybe we have one in our one & only signing so far ?) and a couple of wide men (one to replace Small and one cover for TC). Then we need at least 2, if not 3 strikers to replace Aneke, Ahadme, Kanu & Mbick.

For me we need at least 6 new players, and more like 8 or 9.

Probably wont happen. But if it does it needs to happen within the next 2 weeks. No point going to a training camp with half your starting 11 missing.

There is no chance of us adding 3-4 strikers in addition to Godden, Leaburn and Campbell (if played through the middle)

Has any team ever signed 3-4 strikers in one summer?

Without any knowledge in the background, I do not think we will see too much of Leaburn in the future(I hope I am wrong), consequently we are very short in the scoring goals department.

Needs to happen ? In an ideal world, yes. But, no one will have their entire squads complete in 2 weeks time, it’s not the way football works

Not entirely sure you can compare a team that had been relegated from the prem to a team that has come up from league 1.

Mentioned possible target Mustapha Bundu leaves Plymouth for a Bundesliga 2 side.
Glad he wasn’t a target. PA fans in the main thought he was lightweight and had a mini purple patch that made him look better than he was. Not a Jones player.
Not a Jones player. What does that mean ?

To remind you. Alfie May wasn't a Jones player so we sold him & signed Ahadme instead.

Worked out though didnt it ?

....If you forget that we signed Ahadme.
Butterfly effect, i would change it.

Butterfly effect is also a good description of Ahadme's performances on the pitch, floated around aimlessly and avoided contact.

Apart from Small how many games did the other 4 start or even on the bench your talking like they were all first team players .. if there 1 or 2 more going again will only be fringe players .. the club says 6/7 then that’s what how many we will get but they won’t all be in by Watford at home .. as always in the window one or two will be very late in the day.

Akin Famewo didn't show up to their pre-season training, I reckon this is a goer.

Decent signing. Proven he can play to a Championship standard, will at least be familiar with the club, and won't put a dent in whatever our transfer budget is.

Defence is the only area where we can probably get away with not signing anyone, just about. So not burning the budget on that area would probably be ok.

"🚨Gather neither Callum Paterson or Akin Famewo were present at Owls pre-season today as they enter the final days of their contracts.

Reported last month - even pre-chaos - that further negotiation was required on what had been offered.
