Don't doubt they weren't at an advanced stage but imo they would've been L1 standard. Carey was the only one to be deemed up to the new level
It would be a bit daft by any club to make signings based on whether they'll be playing in a different league. The playing field changes completely.1 -

Carey is a punt at this stage.
I suspect that Carey was probably on our potential list of players to sign if we'd stayed in league one, and despite getting promoted they've decided that as he's free and only 24, he's one worth signing even though we've gone up a league.9 -

Even if we'd stayed in League One I thought we were signing players for the Championship so in that regard they surely feel that Sonny Carey can step up.0 -
Didn’t Jones literally say the list we are working from is the same whether we were in the championship or not.
Just that being in the championship will make it easier.9 -

The last time a popular Charlton manager said we are rich and he will be backed, it didn't happen. As a result of years of bullshitters, I go by actions, not words. Bowyer said this in 2020:
If we do end up signing a handful of quality players like Galbraith and Keillor-Dunn etc, and our squad looks much improved ready for a go at the Championship, I'll put my hands up and say my doubts were wrong, until then, I am expecting a disappointing summer window, like most seasons.
Will still back the team either way and enjoy the season, but that's my thoughts on it all.5 -

So we're still looking at the same players but our targeting and priorities have maybe changed around.0 -

Has anything he has said about transfer processes in previous windows led to you thinking he would just lie?
I remember many posters saying he lied about wanting a thinner squad in January, and that he was covering for the ownership group - but he has been very clear, even at the end of the season, that it was what he wanted.3 -

Comparing the current ownership to anything Matt Southall promised is absolutely wild. The current owners have put their money where their mouths are to appoint NJ, Will Abbot, Dane Murphy as high calibre appointments. Hardly think NJ is signing that big new contract if he's been told by the owners that he's shopping in Poundland for freebies, I doubt we'll have a top half budget and smash our transfer record but there will be a good budget there and then it's down to Chapple and NJ to get to work and do the hard sell to players on why sign for us.
Not concerned at all this early in the window , the whole championship seems on a go slow signing wise. Probably not helped by the U21 Euros, CWC going on.32 -

Certainly not anywhere near being "in the know", but have every faith in Nathan getting in the players he feels he needs based on how things progressed and the season finished last year, subject to the budget of course.
The names mentioned so far on this thread sound like a good starting point, sure something will be announced soon, and certainly hope we will see a few new faces when we land in Slovenia for the pre-season...COYR2 -

Has Dane Murphy taken his position yet ?0

Nothing to do with rumours but I have got to say I think there is a genuine lack of realisation of how much players and our players actually earn. £8k a week for example is not a lot of money in the Championship.
I know that Stockley for example was on a very decent wage when he was here, not got the specific amount, but it is sure higher than anyone would have guessed at on this site.

I will never forget how much respect Katrien had on here and Southall, I always thought they were worms. Not having a pop at anyone who did like those two, but I knew something was off immediately. Sometimes you believe what you want to believe.
Lee Bowyer was a no nonsense credible character, just like Jones, yet he still believed what wasn't true.
I am not saying they're con men like Southall, far from it, I just don't and have never believed we will get the financial backing we might need. They have even said themselves we are a year ahead of where they expected us to be. How can a club who are a Championship side historically be above projections being in a League we historically belong in? Statements like that make me sceptical of the ambition. And the whole talk of being clever to avoid FFP utilising the academy which translates in my book to "don't expect us to spend much money".
It is very early doors and like I said, I would be delighted to be extremely wrong as I want to see Charlton do well more than my judgment be correct. I am just expecting a disappointing window.

I am surprised so many people think Macca is up to Championship standard. Plymouth didn't and neither do I. The fear is, he will drag us deeper against quicker forwards, defence will be isolated from midfield, and them from attack, undermining our press and letting teams waltz through our ranks of three.8
-
Another thing to consider is the timing of Chapples appointment.
Not the greatest if I'm honest
No idea how these things work but what time has he had to look at the original targets? Has he poo poo'd some of them?
I'm assuming he knew for a while that he was going to get the job but as he was still working at Luton I'm sure there were restrictions on the work he could do for us ..even if he knew he was going.
And what of his own targets for us. If they are players that he identified during his time at Luton would that not cause problems if he tried bring them here?

Gillesphey showed towards the end of the season a great positional awareness that meant he rarely got caught in a foot race with forwards15 -

The club are saying that they had a plan and in the plan we had budgeted to get promoted next season.2 -

Apologies to bring up an already covered topic, it's just like a moth to a flame when someone underestimates Championship wages.0
