What’s the point in the players coming out one at a time to be introduced to an empty stadium ffs.
So cringe.2 -
There's no way that FIFA could have foreseen that a 3pm kick off on a Monday, in the USA, might not sell out.5
 -
Not exactly fighting to get in are they.0

I'd love to find the guy who thought announcing the players one by one was a good idea and ask him why?1

They do it for Basketball but it’s only 5 players, haven’t seen it in any other sport, maybe NFL but only the Super Bowl. Went to an MLS game recently didn’t do it there.ForeverAddickted said:

We should do that for our 1st round Carabao Cup game against Northampton, in front of 3000 spectators.Chris_from_Sidcup said:I'd love to find the guy who thought announcing the players one by one was a good idea and ask him why?5 -
This attendance is laughable but the scheduling isn't exactly helping. 3pm in the afternoon is bad enough but they could've at least played it in LA. Instead LA are playing 2k miles away in Atlanta.4

Boca v Benfica looks like it was a fun one.
Boca 2-0 up after 30 minutes - Benfica pulled one back before half time. Then Benfica reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes left, but scrambled an equaliser 10 minutes later. Then, just before the end of the game, Boca also reduced to 10.
Both of Benfica’s goals were scored by Argentine players - Di Maria and Otamendi.
Finished 10 v 10 and each team takes a point.0 -

Plus a red card for Ander Herrera as well. He had a good game, subbed after 20 minutes with an injury, then sent off after 45 minutes for protesting a decision from the bench.Callumcafc said:Boca v Benfica looks like it was a fun one.

Man United v Liverpool played out in Singapore and the like.Notts_Addick said:What a thoroughly depressing spectacle this is.I will have to add ‘Club World Cup’ to the list of phrases that can easily summarise the state of the game at the moment and how it is obsessed with nothing other than money. Right next to ‘Pure Profit’, where fans are gaslighted into believing selling off home grown players is somehow a genius way of balancing the books. I wonder what would have become of Gerrard, Scholes, Giggs etc if that rule had been around back then.Like most fans I long ago accepted that greed has taken over the beautiful game but there is something about this tournament that just really reinforces the fact that those in control of the game care about absolutely nothing other than money, money and more money. Football has now essentially cannibalised itself and despite the billions of pounds it generates it will never be enough. You can bet your last pound FIFA will see how much money this generates and decide it will become an annual thing. Then once they’ve milked this cash cow dry there’ll invent another tournament we don’t need to add to all the rest.I listened to a podcast a few weeks ago where the host was adamant that we would see premier league games played abroad within at least the next two seasons. At one point that seemed inconceivable to me however I am now at a point where I would be shocked if it didn't happen. The second another league does it you will have owners over here bleating about how the Premier League needs to do it otherwise it’ll be ‘left behind’ and ‘can’t compete’ etc.The worst thing is you will have plenty of supporters arguing the case for it as soon as owners say they can’t afford new signings etc. it is depressingly predictable and once it happens there will be no going back.
It'll happen.0 -

Spain play it in Saudi.
Italy have played it in Qatar, China and Saudi.
France have played it in tons of different countries.
However i think there would be too much of a backlash if they looked to play English games abroad. Look how quickly fans of our clubs got the super league idea quickly shut down.1 -

Park the bus first half and nick a goal, but then second half, they had 7 back but left 3 players always up top for the counter and to stretch PSG. Lovely to watch

Oh, right. France have cancelled this year’s ’trophée des champions’ because of Plastique St Germain’s money making schedule.ForeverAddickted said:

3 Brazilian sides have played 2 matches so far, all of them are top of their group. They've been the undoubted success of the tournament so far.0
