Guess if your good enough you would be eligible to play for Denmark.
Jesper Grønkjær was born in Greenland and won 80 caps for Denmark. You have to be some player to make it in Greenland, despite the name they have no grass pitches!
The US soccer federation will be under a lot of pressure if things don't improve. Apparently a big chunk of Poch's wages are being paid by sponsors who were drafted in as they all wanted a big name to bring more domestic attention before hosting the tournament.
I was trying to work out why the World Cup is now hosted across multiple countries, and it looks like the expansion of the tournament is the likely reason. 48 teams will compete, 16 more than in 2022. I expect the increased costs would make a single country want to spread the risk. There must come a point where we reach maximum teams. 48 does seem an awful lot. The logistics of 3 countries must be a nightmare.
Just on the theme of bad American takes...some bloke on ESPN in the US has claimed that Shohei Ohtani (a baseball player for the LA Dodgers) is the best known global athlete since Tiger Woods or Muhammad Ali.
I think Australia is technically a continent rather than an island.
Wonder if being turned down for their own national team will spur on Greenlandic independence demands?!
It’s a continent made of various islands, Tasmania being one and that big bit being another, so the big bit is not the whole continent and is therefore the world’s largest.

The bloke actually has less instagram followers than Ngolo Kante
Clearly the best known amongst those who are too classy to bother with social media.
His face is all over billboards in Japan. He wouldn't be able to walk in Japan or USA without getting mobbed. However, the most popular athlete on the world is going to be a footballer by some distance. I doubt many on here are aware of Ohtani.

Messi and Ronaldo are surely the two most popular worldwide by quite some distance.

Depends on what you mean by worldwide I guess. In terms of sheer numbers someone like Kohli might be able to come close but largely concentrated in one (massive) country

The gap between football and everything else is huge. I imagine Kohli is probably the most popular non-footballer with a boxer or athlete coming after cricket players.

Well what do you think worldwide means?
Yes there will players who are considered more famous in certain countries like the examples given above (Ohtani in Japan, Kohli in India) and probably Lebron James in the US, but overall worldwide it will clearly be Messi and Ronaldo.
Comments
Yesterday he played a team largely comprising MLS players and they got steamrolled by Switzerland.
He needs a good showing at the Gold Cup which starts this weekend or he might well be out of a job.
