Aneke has been released.golfaddick said:Seems this scouting & signing stuff is a right lark.
Just sign all your old players and jobs a good 'un.
Problem is we re-sign all the injured & dross like Aneke, Famewo & Djikstel whilst the quality like Beedle go elsewhere.3 -
There's nothing I'd like more than to be transported back to 2020 - 2022, a golden era in the age of mediocrity.J BLOCK said:Please no
Re the diagonal punts, he couldn't keep the ball on the pitch. I remember Lincoln away in 2022 I think - masterclass in how to find the stands
Absolutely not for me

look at all the posts on this thread and you will see who the posters like for every position .. that will tell you exactly who is rated by whom .. OKShootersHillGuru said:Keep reading “we can do better” without saying who exactly0 -
Bottom quarter in the division you'd imagine. With no depth up front, and lacking creativity in midfield. If TC or Godden had got injured in the run-in, he would have been toothless, as we had no cover at all.up_the_valley said:
What's our budget?killerandflash said:
Realistically, with our budget I can't see us finding 2 better left footed CBs to fill our squad than Gillesphey and Famewo.NabySarr said:Famewo is better than McIntyre so this would be improving the squad. The debate is whether him and Gillesphey as 2 options is good enough for this level, I would say it is. Gillesphey has improved and his performances in the 2nd half of the season suggested to me he can make the step up, Famewo has been a championship player for a while
Injuries is another question mark but if it gets approval from Dr Will then I am fine with it
If we have money to spend, then there are other parts of the pitch where we need to "splash the cash", not defence.1 -
A 21 year old trying to impress a bit too hard maybe ? Sounds like he’s learned and improved since then. Left footed with no fee. I’m not opposed.cabbles said:

Erm, you are aware that we have not in fact signed any of those players right? I don't think that there's even been a semi credible link to any except MAYBE Famewo. It's literally just speculation.golfaddick said:Seems this scouting & signing stuff is a right lark.

I'll trust NJ's judgement of a player above anyone posting on here. If he wants a player, it's yes from me and I hope he can get them in. He's built a team with belief who have each other's backs, so it's essential that those who come in have the same mentality.
Plenty want us to splash the cash, but the price tag shouldn't come into it in identifying who we want. That only becomes important when trying to seal the deal. The fantasy football approach to assembling a squad isn't the model that'll be applied in reality.

It’s weird how a discussion over a potential player returning turns into point scoring.
‘I’ll trust NJ thanks very much’
Well yeah so do I. But I can still have a view on whether I think AF is a good signing. Particularly when there’s zero evidence to even suggest he is signing!2 -
No evidence he’s signing certainly but I believe we have shown an interest.Valley11 said:It’s weird how a discussion over a potential player returning turns into point scoring.

We can, but as we’re all mainly judging Famewo on memories of his performances between 3 and 5 years ago it’s not an up to date picture of what he can offer.Valley11 said:It’s weird how a discussion over a potential player returning turns into point scoring.

Since then he’s been promoted from L1 and had 2 seasons in the Championship. I’m not saying he’s definitely a good signing, but being that long ago I don’t think we can write him off as confidently as some have.
Had his time with us been with another club he’d probably look like a solid Championship signing and as a 26 year old CB, someone who still hasn’t reached his peak.5 -

With the much loved Chuks off the pay role after many years, my main concern would be if there's any mileage in the Famewo rumour that it's a short contract with a possible option if he's fit to be available for so many matches.
Being 26 and with experience of the Championship is a plus.
Obviously any one can get a new injury at CAFC but coming with an existing injury has happened with a few players in recent seasons.

How much did Oxford, Portsmouth and Derby spend last season? Doubt they spent that much combined and they all managed to stay upSteven81 said:
Thought we only had 4-5 players championship ready players from last season how many players wages are we matching up with, with the TV money new kit deal and increase in ticket prices I hope the billionaire owners can swallow some money and make a go of it otherwise we sink and it will all be pointless, I reckon we need to spend atleast 10-20 million on 5-6 players one of them being a classy pacey striker to even compete and stay in the division mid tablish.Woodwork said:

If we have money to spend, then there are other parts of the pitch where we need to "splash the cash", not defence. The wage budget needs to be doubled to match Preston. That’s all of the TV money spent. To match the likes of Stoke City & WBA it needs to be tripled/quadrupled. So the owners need to chuck in an extra £20m on top of the extra tv money. And so on.
We obviously need to spend, but it’s not going to be silly money. The 11m or so from TV money is a healthy start and the owners I’m sure will put some more in on top so that we have a competitive transfer and wage budget. Our budget needs to be competitive, Jones will do the rest
According to Transfermarkt then transfer fees alone across summer/winter windows (so the full season)...
- Oxford spent €3.8m.
- Pompey spent €4.9m.
- Derby spent €9.4m
Of course all three clubs will have seen huge increases in their wage bills given the influx of players (Oxford 21, Pompey 25, Derby 19), so not unrealistic to assume £10-20M more spent overall than they spent in L1...

You do know footballers can improve right? Particularly younger players. Since leaving us Famewo has been promoted from league 1 and made 48 championship appearances and appears to be rated well by that championship fanbase. Would suggest he is probably quite a bit better than he was in 2020-22cabbles said:

I've hardly post on this thread as it's a waste of time. There are no rumours (yet) and when they do emerge they are few & far between.
95% of this thread is people posting about their wants, ifs & maybe's......and 75% of that is about previous players. Last couple of seasons is was Jordan Cousins and now its Dejikstel, Famewo, and a few other players we've released over the years. You could probably put together a starting 11 from all the names mentioned.
And then when it's not about our old players it's about players we've not got a hope in hell of signing. 2 days ago it was Danny Ings ffs !!!4 -

Derby not long coming out of administration and spending close to ten million is everything that’s wrong with football.Athletico Charlton said:NabySarr said:

Worth remembering Lloyd Jones didn't have the best of first seasons with us. A bit of time, some proper coaching, and generally better organized team/tactics have helped make him look like a world beater. Bad teams can make good players look worse than they are and Famewo was definitely here when we were a bad team. Despite that, he always looked to have a lot of the attributes required to be a decent defender.17

Tbf to Famewo (as briefly touched on already) he was in a cb partnership with Innis, who is now non-league, and also playing with the likes of Ben Watson, Chris Gunter, Amos, MacG, etc. I’m sure he’ll do significantly better with Jones, Ramsay, Edwards, Coventry all around him.
That’s without mentioning he’s 3 years more experienced than he was then, with 2 of those seasons coming in the Championship.23 -
Famewo was also ok in that back 3 with Clare and PearceJoshAddick said:Tbf to Famewo (as briefly touched on already) he was in a cb partnership with Innis, who is now non-league, and also playing with the likes of Ben Watson, Chris Gunter, Amos, MacG, etc. I’m sure he’ll do significantly better with Jones, Ramsay, Edwards, Coventry all around him.

He’s a central midfielder and he’s out of contract. But he does play for Derby.DennisBooth said:Liam Thompson, Derby left back £1.4 million4 -
What about someone like Micah Hamilton? Could possibly be a good one for the squad supporting the front line with potential. Had the amazing start at City scoring in the Champions League, but has gone to ‘boro and loaned to Stockport last season and hasn’t had much opportunity.0
