The lure of Mansfield, Lincoln and the like vs the games in Championship doesn’t seem compelling, even as a fan. He has said the board are supportive, the fans are behind him, so why do that when he could always consider at a different time when further along with us?
If he does go that would probably sound alarm bells with the backing being given.I think the difference is, when Millwall fans turn on you, they really turn on you. And they also tend to turn on the players more often than the manager. I think that is because they think players should give their all, no matter who the manager is or how bad he is.@Henry Irving is this okay with you, sir? As I replied to a direct post. Doff my cap etc etcI can’t be bothered to work out average league position for Charlton and Millwall but my guess is that over your chosen time frame there’s not much in it.So from Jones’ pov, it probably did seem a bit extreme how quickly fans turned on him. Especially if you look at how Charlton have performed since 2009 (that’s 16 years!!). He came in after the club had finished in its lowest position since 1926. And with the club having a reputation for being a bit of a long running basket-case club to outsiders. To get absolute pelters in the middle of the huge task of turning the club around must have seemed crazy to him.Thing is, I haven't posted a single trolling or wind up post. Not one. When I used to lurk on here, I thought it was a bit bonkers, but in a good way. But my god, there are more serious & pompous middle-aged men in here than in a London to Brighton cycle race. Poor old Brazilliance is having a breakdown because of some of you & I’d argue that the man-boy DOUCHER is more of a bloody troll & WUM than anyone on this site. By far.Look, it is a great forum. I like AFKA, so out of respect I am not gonna reply to personal messages anymore. And if he thinks I am trolling, then I will shut up & leave. But I genuinely do not think I am. Just chatted stats, history titbits & given an honest opinion.11 -
The way I see it…..
Cardiff promised their fans a new manager and wanted a high profile manager such as Buckingham or the old Bolton manager but neither want to work for tan.
Cardiff have made up the jones rumour through a local journalist. They will appoint their youth coach or an unknown and say “we tried to get jones but Charlton wouldn’t let him join”.14 -
And as by magic, sky sports news are reporting that Cardiff have said that jones is an unrealistic target and are looking at other options such as Aaron Ramsey and Barry-Murphy8

Sky now reporting that Cardiff are no longer pursuing Nathan Jones.21

As I have said I believe Des Buckingham will take the job if offered as he is out of work and may not get offered a higher job in the football pyramid.
A promotion on his CV is good from League 1 with Oxford through the play offs and unlucky with getting the sack when it was always going to be a struggle over the 46 match Championship with the higher quality than the mediocre League 1; Charlton's turn to find out the difference in the two divisions soon.
The privilege few can sit and wait but not sure DB is in that position.

I'm not saying he would have left, but thankfully Cardiff kept their potential pursuit of Jones to themselves before the playoff final!
Had we lost to orient, the chances of him leaving would significantly increase.
So much was riding on that 101 minutes of football at wembley.
I'm so very grateful and relieved we won that game!7 -

Jones is in the perfect place for redemption and he will be backed enough to show his worth.
Let's focus on the season now and not wet ourselves over a few twitter murmurs in the future.
Come on you Reds!4 -

Nathan saw the light and there was no going back, never was.

The monkey was off Nathan's back after we achieved Promotion back to the Championship.
Heard on a podcast,* Ashley Williams criticism of NJ when he was at Stoke and the players were unsure how he wanted them to play.
Williams said Nathan kept going on about his success at Luton but he had come from Swansea so was used to the passing game from the back where Ryan Shawcross was used to playing a long ball.
Williams felt NJ was very insecure at that time and they were confused how he wanted them to play.
* Before Cafc '25' form and surge to the Championship.

There's a vacancy at Bristol City now, Nathan Jones was saving himself for that job5

Nathan Jones almost played for Bristol City as a youth but picked Cardiff instead, might be some unfinished business there from when he was a teenager.
Make of that what you will.8
