Lots of Spanners expected him to be a long term mainstay of their defence in the Championship.Crispywood said:
Would argue A.Mitchell would actually suit championship football more than L1. Less time more time on the ball more time defending the box probably plays to his advantagesGisappointed said:Assuming we go up:-

Someone coming in on a free expects a signing-on fee or extra salary similar to the fee you’ve saved so it doesn’t leave a lot extra in the kitty.Redrobo said:Dijksteel has been mentioned and dismissed but I think he would be a good signing.
Only 28 and bags of Championship experience. Now released by Middlesbrough who are always near the top of the league. Played over 30 games this season and fit.
Not sure there is better available on a free and would leave more in the kitty for another positions.1 -

That 20 min cameo against us at the valley in December he was brilliant. Dodds made every player in that Wycombe side look awful tried to get them to play like a Sunday league side. Problem is Wycombe will still probably value him on what he can do rather than what he did under Dodds. Not sure if we’re going to have the luxury to chuck 4M on one player. Chapple and Jones haven’t ever really chucked huge money on one player instead looking for a bunch of multiple smart deals think that trend continuesBraziliance said:

I’d rather take a punt on Kone but think they will want silly money.king addick said:The Kelman love in is a bit strange to me. Yes, hes scored goals but this was his first season of doing so. Record before that was awful so not even remotely proven.
League 1 I would take a punt buGo in for Olaofe at Stockport
From when the window closed, and the remaining 15 games he played where he was available, he scored 2 goals and got 3 assists. Prior to that, he got 16 goals in 28 games.
He completely fell apart, and I imagine it put a dent in his market value.
I wouldn't mind seeing us sign him though for the right price that said. He is quick, he's shown at some stage he can find the net, and he can spin a centre back.
Hard to judge him too much from our excellent defence. Only striker I really thought gave us hell was Sam Smith, the Rotherham forwards (bad day at the office) and same as Peterboroughs forward line on that blip day.1 -
Would be disappointed if we went for Jade-Jones , just seems to have pace and not much else.3

I think cos you said that in your head mate! I thought they pulled out of the deal.ForeverAddickted said:
Would they...? - When they've already turned down bids for the likes of Jones, Campbell and Leaburn in recent times... Maybe we're not such mugs like we are when it comes to selling players anymore... How would you know.Woodwork said:
It will surely be a big bid if he is a genuine Championship level midfielder, so you imagine the club would accept it. Especially if he wanted to make the step up.ForeverAddickted said:
Will we find out one way or another? - A club can make a bid for him, which they'll no doubt make in private, but even if we stay in League One, we're in no obligation to sellWoodwork said:I guess we’ll find out one way or another, as either he’ll step up or a Championship club with make a big money offer if they read the ratings.People can’t have their cake and eat it!
Im glad you conveniently skirted over the fact that I pointed out that a Championship club tried to sign him (Sheffield Wednesday) right before he joined us.
Yes... They pulled out, but dont think the Manager was overly happy about it.
Collapse of Sheffield Wednesday's Conor Coventry transfer examined - Danny Röhl's stance
It is believed there are a number of factors at play in the collapse of mutual interest between Wednesday and the Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder, including a preference on the player's part to stay in London, promises of more frequent playing time by Charlton and the League One club's willingness to offer West Ham a higher sell-on percentage as part of their transfer package.
So Wednesday WANTED him... We just offered him a better deal0 -
Celtic fan though apparently.ShootersHillGuru said:Mulligan sounds like a typical jones signing from what I’ve read but it’s definitely a pity Rangers are in the mix. Hard to think a Scots lad not wanting to play for one of the big two in The SPL given the opportunity.
That's not always a barrier to signing for Rangers, though.2 -
I can see why the names being mentioned are being mentioned but Jones has stated he wants to bring in Championship experience along with athleticism. To get Championship experience and presumably be decent I think we might be looking at the wrong players.0

That’s good news because I think it would be very difficult to sign for Rangers as a Celtic fan.North Lower Neil said:

Wouldn't mind him as an option from the bench. He does have lightning pace and we just don't have quick players, can't teach God given pace.MarcusH26 said:Would be disappointed if we went for Jade-Jones , just seems to have pace and not much else.
He's at a better level than almost all of our other forwards except TC and Godden. Hard to say on Leaburn cause of the injuries.
Would be a sensible singing imo. One that could improve and has a high ceiling, only 22. 11 goals and 4 assists from centre forward. Same goals as TC.2 -

I still think Neufville is well worth a look. Seemed to be a level above at AFCW last season, got promoted with them but I reckon he is in with a chance of making the step to Championship football. 24 so should be coming into his own, and similarly to Small can play wingback or on the wing depending on formation

I agree with them... He's really impressed me as someone who can run at defences, but watching him in the 0-0 against us, and then two Play-Off matches I thought his finishing was a bit to be desired.Crispywood said:

I think he could be a decent upgrade on Aneke as an impact player from the bench, but wouldn't want to rely on him1 -
I think we’ll see a mixture of signings, rather than only those with both Championship experience and athleticism.ShootersHillGuru said:I can see why the names being mentioned are being mentioned but Jones has stated he wants to bring in Championship experience along with athleticism. For the former, we probably want to look at Championship players out of contract.1 -
Galbraith isn't a Free Transfer, Orient have the option to extend his Contract by a further year, which I suspect they'll do... and sell him.John_Fitzpatrick1 said:List of players I think we may go for and who I’d like us to go for:Amari Bell - Free Transfer

After the improvement Macca, TC & Karoy have shown under Jones…if he bought in RJJ I’d trust him to improve him a lot from where he is now.
He already has very clever movement off the ball and creates holes in defences that others exploit. I would say he’s ahead of both TC & Small in footballing IQ.1 -

That and in the instance of them playing us he got chaperoned by our defence, especially Jones. They put a real shift in during those matches to cancel any threat out.PaddyP17 said:
Did Kone fall apart, or did the turgid football Wycombe play under Dodds have a significant part to play? Chairboys fans seem to the think latter more so than the former.Braziliance said:

Whether we'd be able to capture his best is a slightly different question. I admittedly haven't watched enough Wycombe to know if Kone would be a good fit to how we intend to play, or indeed, if we could adapt our style easily enough to get the best out of him and vice versa.
I suspect, though, the "right price" won't exist for us in any case, so this is a bit academic.

Kone has that edge. He'd be a phenomenal signing. This is a man who pretended to be gay to win asylum, he will stop at nothing. He'll also cost 5m+ and we won't spend that, yeah13
-
I'd expect us to be coming up against Kone again next season but I do wonder what kind of fee Wycombe will ultimately get. Another player that it's hard to tell if he got a bit sussed second half of the season or if it was Dodds's incredibly negative style of play that didn't get the best of him Vs Bloomfield0

Wrong, there have been plenty, and visa versa, our very own Jim Melrose being one, big bluenose, played for Celtic. Neill Mcann ex rangers player, currently or was part of Barry Fergusons coaching team recently, Celtic fan.ShootersHillGuru said:

Really surprised nobody is mentioning Fraser Horsfall. Completely bossed it for Stockport a'la Jones for us. Out of contract and big athletic fella.

Side note but I’m really happy we can mostly all agree that even if we sign a player who hasn’t quite hit the heights expected but is still young enough to improve, we now have a manager who can actually get them to do that.
I really think with Jones at the helm given what he’s done with this squad, we will pip a few of our other Champ rivals to certain players.11 -
Maybe a bit off a reach but that Emma woman on a Charlton you tube live just now reckons she's got inside info on us having something done with wickens the Lincoln keeper.7

"Jones has allowed his contract to run down and can be signed as a free agent next month, although Posh will still expect to receive a hefty compensation fee for a local lad who joined the club aged nine.Posh director of football Barry Fry told the PT on Friday: “Ricky will have plenty of options. Several top clubs will see a chance to develop an exciting talent further. I’m told there has been interest from overseas clubs, although I’m not sure Ricky will fancy that.”
