Yeah the interesting thing in Jones's comment (and why I posted it) is that Docherty isn't a guaranteed starter at the moment. It is of course right that he has whatever time off is needed for his family
He should be a guaranteed starter though. I like Anderson more than most people seem to, but Docherty’s performance levels are just a lot more consistent
I'd say Doch is a consistent 6/10. Not really reached the levels we might have hoped for when he first signed.

Jones was clearly joking. But then he then exploded with rage because Docherty had been spotted shopping in Bluewater.

    Hope he wasn’t in Costa!

Played the conditions better than us? What is he on about, the sun in our eyes in the first half?

There’s a lad in the middle,

    Running strong, never little—

    He tackles, he scores,

    The Valley adores—

    Walking in a Docherty wonderland!

That's a brilliant interview. Think both Doc and Charlotte are a credit to this club

Anyone else still ever so slightly disappointed in him this season? Aside from his leadership qualities and obvious top-bloke status, I expected much more from him on the pitch.

I think he goes under the radar a bit. He isn’t flashy and he does the dirty work in a pretty subtle way. His shooting needs improvement but he’s consistently getting in those positions more

Yeah, obviously didn't settle as he said easily in London, but has now, and he's been a massive reason for the improvement, has Kinsella like vibes on the pitch, but from that interview, a hugely impressive person off it

Shocked to hear that the Playoffs are a different ball game. When did this come in?!

Agree, I think central midfield is one of the weaker areas in our team. Not that I don’t want Doc and Berry in there for the playoff games, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed one or two in the summer to compete for their places or overtake them.

Captain invisible for me. I think his uptick in form around December was a major factor in the team as a whole improving, but more recently he has disappeared worse than others in the big games.

Tangentially related- Had to laugh at Wrexham when he gave a dangerous free-kick away on the edge of the box, then minutes later gave the ball away in an attacking position- both times he went unnamed by the commentator which i thought was ironic.

She’s much better at these long form types than immediately post game, shorter questions after a match tend to be better in my opinion. Still think she’s great though and we’re very lucky to have her

Again like all of the players I have seen interviewed this season he truly passes the no dickheads rule. Obviously we don’t get to feel it but I bet that dressing room is a great environment to be involved in and will be a fantastic benefit to the youngsters

I know he's club captain, but I'm not sold on Doherty.  Don't think he adds much & we need better in the Championship.

    Am I in the minority?

I reckon he's a big influence behind the scenes at instilling the culture into the squad that Jones wants

I think he's brilliant. And he gets the fans. He does lots of stuff on the pitch that goes under the radar. If we had a flashier player playing in the 10 no one would be complaining about him

I really like him as a leader and a bloke. I'm still not totally sure what he's about as a player. But he's come here and been played out of his natural position. I don't know if we've ever truly seen the real Docherty because he's been played further forward. I will say, NJ did the same with Allan Campbell, and Doc has equipped himself much better than him.

Without doubt you can see what he brings to the squad as a captain but I’m not sure he will be a starter next season although he has played plenty in the championship so what do I know

At the start of the season I’d agree on being played outside his natural position, but I think he’s been playing there for months now as a box to box midfielder.

One of Berry/Anderson/Gilbert have played the 10/attacking midfield role, and Coventry has been the more defensive of the three.

I think he’s still got a big part to play next season, but we need to improve on both him and Berry. They can still fight for their places and come in when needed.

I do not rate him on the slightest. It's not his work that goes under the radar it's him that goes missing.

As a captain he's great. Calm head on the pitch which the players seems to listen to when the league 1 refs let us down. Really gets the fans and again seems a top bloke.

Between kick off and full time however, doesn't want the ball when we have it, hides when they are on possession. Yesterday was told several times by the defenders who to cover and just chose to jog up to said defender as though he couldn't hear them exposing us.

All he offers next year is a reliable squad player next year, as I guess he is probably one of the highest earners and there is no way to move him on with a 3 year contract.
