I think he likes playing two strikers too much to do that (good for pressing and going direct, as we do), although we move to that shape when we attack when Small pushes high and TC drifts wide left.Callumcafc said:
Should we get to the Championship, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones wanted to start with a double pivot 4-2-3-1. He already showed at the beginning of this season that his number #1 priority when starting at a new club/level is to not concede goals.MarcusH26 said:Orient have been playing Galbraith at RWB mainly. But by trade normally yes he'd compete with Coventry.

Really hope that we sign Lincoln's Goalkeeper: George Wickens6

Really wish there was a way to block certain people's posts appearing.Gisappointed said:

I actually think that is a great shout. I know, we’re obsessed with ex players etc, but part of the reason our back 3 have been so effective has been down to the pace of recovery of Ramsay, if he’s out, we have no one else that can play that role.NabySarr said:Dijksteel released by Middlesbrough. If we go up I think that would be a great move for us to make. Option for wing back and think Ramsay’s role would really suit him tooAs Naby says, he can cover multiple positions, is on a free, and is still only 28.
I’d be happy if we resigned him.15 -
And it's not as if he's been sitting in the stands this season, he's been a regular for them.Themightyath2 said:

Not sure he could play the Ramsey role but I'm not against getting him back, most of the time Ramsey is outmuscling bulky centre forwards, Dijksteel was good for us but more of an up-and-down right back, which I think we already have in Edwards on the opposite side.0
-
Djiksteel would be an excellent signing. Covers multiple positions well could play the Ramsay role , play RWB and cover Coventry at CDM too. Bags of championship experience too4
-
The Notts keeper has some decent distribution for L1 or L2, not small at 6'3" and only 27, so coming to his peak. Could do nothing for the goal.1
-
His best football at Middlesbrough was when Wilder was there and he played RCB in a back 3 for them. Although he came through as a right back/wing back for us, he was originally a Centre back or centre mid. I think the role Ramsay is playing would be perfect for himLittleAddick said:Not sure he could play the Ramsey role but I'm not against getting him back, most of the time Ramsey is outmuscling bulky centre forwards, Dijksteel was good for us but more of an up-and-down right back, which I think we already have in Edwards on the opposite side.0 -

Probably a lazy one but Naismith just released from Bristol city. Signed by Jones at Luton, 33 now but would bring experience from a top end champ side good option off the bench maybe1

I know, but pretty sure i read on here that he is out of contract at the end of the season?covered_end_junior said:

Off that, just googled and he signed a new contract in 20240

And Berry has scored as many league goals as TC...Gisappointed said:All mediocre scorers on Statbank. Doc, the skipper, was dropped for a few matches because he was so crap. Berry our only 10 until January. Our main weakness has been in midfield. Even Coventry with his backpasses was poor until Xmas, but we have never controlled games despite the experience of LB and GD.
So why hasn't he got a song?0 -
This is pretty much what the squad is looking like for next season without sales and presuming Small Doesn’t extend his deal. Arguably if we go up we’re going to need upgrade the starting XI with a new GK, new LCB, New RCB (depending if either Mitchell can make the step up), 2 New midfielders to start alongside Coventry, and another Big physical striker. Also need wingback cover as well either side . So roughly 8-9 signings needed big summer ahead

No way Ramsay goes back to RWB. He’s a RCB now and that’s where he’ll stay13
-
If you’re counting Fullah and Asiimwe as potential back ups then Enslin is possible cover for Edwards. Dixon another option up front too.Crispywood said:

How many of them end up as part of the squad depends on what league we’re in, who we sign and the impact they make in preseason. Will be interesting to see which of the academy players make that step, as I think at least a couple will.1 -
Right now I think if we stay in League 1, we'll look to replace or upgrade 3 positions on the pitch, and that is GK, RWB and CAM, with another 4 signings across the squad to help strengthen the overall depth.
If we go up, that number for me jumps to 6, with ST, LCB and CM added to the list of first XI upgrades, and the respective players in those positions becoming squad options, and the previous squad options either loaned out or moved on.
League 1
NEW GK
Ramsay Jones GIllesphey
NEW RWB Docherty Coventry Edwards
NEW CAM
Godden Campbell
Mannion, Mitchell, Mitchell, Asiimwe, Anderson, Leaburn, Kanu
Championship
NEW GK
Ramsay Jones NEW LCB
NEW RWB NEW CM Coventry Edwards
NEW CAM
Godden NEW ST
Mannion, Mitchell, GIllesphey, Docherty, Berry, Campbell, Leaburn
Hope that makes sense!1 -
Hopefully we wont need the new starting RWB if we go up, as it'll be Small
Be surprised if we got a new Striker to start ahead of Campbell as well, Jones loves him0 -
Gillesphey is playing like a player that could step up at the moment. Though I’m sure if we are in the championship we will bring in an alternative to compete with him for the spot, whereas in league 1 it will probably be another backup like McIntyre1

NOT a rumour, a wish .. Malik Mothersille from Peterborough, 21, plays like a veteran midfielder, just what we need .. he'll cost though (no idea of his contract situation)5
-
I just think Campbell might struggle a bit in the championship, he'll need to find another gear and get even stronger IMO. I'd sooner sign someone more established, and utilise TC from the bench to start with, and if he shows he's made that step up, then you can put him in the first XI and go from thereForeverAddickted said:Hopefully we wont need the new starting RWB if we go up, as it'll be Small

I think an established striker and an established No10 would be top of my list if we go up. Godden, TC and Leaburn (when fit) will all be useful contributors but a couple of statement signings in those positions would be rather nice.2
-
I think Godden and Campbell would be back up forwards in the championship.
Campbells form has dipped and he's been pocketed twice by a bang average league1 fullback in Grimmer, won't get any easier a league above, Godden hasn't scored more than 12 I think? In the league above, and he's only getting older.
Brilliant players for this level, but Campbell is still growing, very high ceiling but it's gonna take time.
For me, Jones, Ramsay, Edwards, Small. Those are the 4 I'm very confident won't look out of place in the league above. Gillesphey and Coventry should be ok/good enough for our objective. Godden and Tyreece as above.
We will need around 4-6 new players to start immediately in the league above imo. Hopefully we have got some cash.10 -
Agreed, he lacks real pace to get away from defenders, and i m o his inability to see a pass to a teammate in space is a glaring fault time after time .. he is young and he'll learnsam3110 said:

believe his contract expires at the end of this season but the club have an option on him. From what their fans have told me he's had some difficult times with their fan base and has been quite open with his dislike for them previously. Supposedly we have contacted posh about one or more of their players and wouldn't surprise me if he was one of them along with Poku (ambitious) and Kyprianou. He's a South London boy (if you count Croydon 😂) so could well be a deal to be done.Lincsaddick said:NOT a rumour, a wish .. Wouldn't surprise me. I was told this when we most recently played them.ForeverAddickted said:
