All mediocre scorers on Statbank. Doc, the skipper, was dropped for a few matches because he was so crap. Berry our only 10 until January. Our main weakness has been in midfield. Even Coventry with his backpasses was poor until Xmas, but we have never controlled games despite the experience of LB and GD.13

Really Doc and Berry have been excellent for different reasons .. and with Coventry formed a very good mid three and one of the reasons for our good run …Gisappointed said:We need to follow the Sunderland model and sign young players with potential.
Docherty, Berry, Hylton, Potts and Campbell have been underwhelming. All likely on high salaries. All oldies. Surely NJ has run out of ex-Luton pals.
Although I'd love to sign Thelo Aasgard, can't imagine relegation is doing much for Hatter's financials on £12k crowds, likely lower in L1.4 -
Only 4 paragraphs? Grapevine must still be battered from celebrating our win!Grapevine49 said:
Well as Potts left 4 months ago was an injury reclamation and played 1 game on what possible basis do you suppose he was expensive?Gisappointed said:We need to follow the Sunderland model and sign young players with potential.

A. Campbell was a late loan where Luton paid most of his salary and he too left 4 months ago.
Hylton was a part time player coach. Who else did you have in mind for 7th choice striker?
Berry and Docherty contributed 40% of the league goals & assists from midfield ( I include Small & Edwards) That sounds like money well spent. Who did you have in mind who is cheaper.?2 -
We have controlled many games this season.Gisappointed said:All mediocre scorers on Statbank. Doc, the skipper, was dropped for a few matches because he was so crap. Berry our only 10 until January. Even Coventry with his backpasses was poor until Xmas, but we have never controlled games despite the experience of LB and GD.In fact I can't remember the last season where we've been so comfortable in so many league games. The superb defence with record clean sheets has helped that, and they have been able to build that superb defence by having a huge amount of trust in the midfield in front of them.4 -
And Berry has scored as many league goals as TC...Gisappointed said:All mediocre scorers on Statbank. Doc, the skipper, was dropped for a few matches because he was so crap. So why hasn't he got a song?0 -
What we don't see is how the players are away from The Valley. SCP also recruited on personalities as well as ability. NJ has a similar methodology, the characters are just as important as the overall skill level. This is why he suits a certain club setup. Perhaps Docherty isn't the best talent in his position, but overall he has captained us to the playoff final and the manager trusts him.

If they get us to the Championship , I'll write every one of them a song.

Grapevine, I always enjoy your posts, but as an accountant I think your maths needs some work. My research says 67 goals, 38 assists as a team. Berry has 7 & 5, Doc 4 & 2 so 18.Grapevine49 said:

We scored 67 and 38 assists, so 105.
18 into 105 is just over 17% and you'd expect midfielders to be at the top of these stats, not 40%.
So yes I think they were below par signings and expensive along with the others you've dismissed.5 -

Dijksteel released by Middlesbrough. If we go up I think that would be a great move for us to make. Option for wing back and think Ramsay’s role would really suit him too15

Hoping we might go for Caleb Taylor, young, quick and great potential9

If we go up, I just want us to mop up all the best league 1 players who won't cost a fortune in wages.
The likes of Davis Keillor-Dunn, Ethan Galbraith, Harvey Knibbs, Ethan Pye, etc.
Players probably ready to make the step up and if we do come down again, have the ability to turn it around quickly.
Survival will be the only objective next season if we go up, and I'd be ecstatic with that and a promising squad.
Could even look at league 2. Jack Rudoni is class and made the jump from Wimbledon to Huddersfield. There will be players in League 2 better than some of our current squad.6 -
Would be quite refreshing to see the next generation (Z. Mitchell, potentially C. Taylor) starting to be slowly built up and eased in over the next season or two. Gillesphey and L. Jones are both 29, certainly not past it but unlikely to reach new physical peaks any more.Addickinedi said:Hoping we might go for Caleb Taylor, young, quick and great potential
If we can have the next generation training with them and learning from them now so they are ready to step up in due course.0 -
Looks a good player, not sure West Brom would let him go mind. Brad Hills (on loan from Norwich to Stockport) also looked a good centre back.Addickinedi said:Hoping we might go for Caleb Taylor, young, quick and great potential

Gisappointed, in the face of a play off final, you are of course entitled to argue to the periphery of the core deliverables this very small senior squad has contributed to this season. None of Potts, A. Campbell or Hylton have ever been primarily fiscally or operationally relevant to this core.
THOSE NUMBERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
In the matter of Berry & Docherty I politely suggest you reread my post concerning MIDFIELD contributors. I regard your position as entirely disrespectful of two of only 14 players who have over the past 32 games delivered a quite exceptional growth through 2025. That you are unable to put such growth in the context of the overall squad size, nature of the competition and the playing modus operandi is your problem …..not mine.
Berry started 33 EFL League related games - 21 Wins - 7 Draws - 5 Losses - 2.1pts ppg
Docherty on being played in box to box role - 27 EFL League related games all as captain 17 wins 6 Draws - 4 Losses - 2.1pts ppg.
Playing stats source Transfermarkt.
Average across 46 League games is 96pts and 2nd place.

If Keillor-Dunn is out of reach, I'd like Donley on loan, but Jones seemingly vetoed that loan happening last summer.
Agree with your strategy though, especially if we can find a few more Kayne Ramsay's hidden around.
Maybe even look to Ireland / Wales / Scotland for the next Josh Edwards as well4 -
Orient have been playing Galbraith at RWB mainly. But by trade normally yes he'd compete with Coventry.1

Should we get to the Championship, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones wanted to start with a double pivot 4-2-3-1. He already showed at the beginning of this season that his number #1 priority when starting at a new club/level is to not concede goals.MarcusH26 said:Orient have been playing Galbraith at RWB mainly. This would make a lot of sense but would need quite heavy recruitment I would think to make it work - I'll just write this out as a possible 4231 lineup (striker is a coin toss)
New GK
Ramsay Jones Gilly Edwards
Coventry New CDM
TC New 10 Small
