  • Anyone know if our American owners were over to watch?
    I really hope they were.

    Why?

To be fair on the Sky interview he did say it was OTT and (unnecessarily) apologised.

It's called passion, he shook hands with the Wycombe manager and things seemed to go okay there.

I thought Gilbert was running the game at times. In a physical game of hoofball, he was the one bringing the ball down and getting us playing. Thought he was constantly involved and looks like he can offer more than Berry.
    Except goals...
  • We're getting caned by the err footballing public on the BBC Comments page, Nathan in particular.

We know and he knows that we haven't won anything yet but after enduring the crap we've faced over the last six years explains our sheer bloody relief tonight that we are hopefully on our way back.
    Well done boys.
    Sincerely? Fuck 'em!!
Yes a lot of posters (not Wycombe) criticising Charlton supporters for the pitch invasion  :D:D:D & to be fair most of the Wycombe supporters were saying the best team won & were criticising their own manager for their dreadful "style" of football.
The Wycombe fans at the station afterwards were remarkably relaxed about the defeat. You'd have thought they'd just lost a game in mid November.
I think they came resigned to going out. Should read their match thread. Mostly arguing about how Dodds has turned them from a free scoring team to not now having scored in nearly 500 minutes, how the Chairman effectively forced Bloomfield out, how the Chairman has cocked it up, the fact that none of the starting eleven tonight should be there next season. They are not happy bunnies. A fair few said we deserved to go through but more because they were awful as opposed to us being any good.
I make them right, Kone couldn't stop scoring under Bloomfield, under Dodds he is not the same player. He was left out then played up front on his own, great man management.

Incidentally, haven’t seen a replay yet, but did Lloyd Jones bring that ball down from Gillesphey‘s pass to set up the winner? Wasn’t sure if it hit the defender. If it was Jones it was sheer class.
  • Really wish I hadn’t booked a family holiday when we were 19th now.

I’ll be in a corfu airport at kick off 🤦🏻

Brilliant night under the lights at the valley. Amazing noise when that goal went in
Never understand people booking holidays during the football season.

But seeing as it's you it makes sense.

    😆😆😆😆😆😆
  • What I really like about this team was when we went 1-0 up the stress was there in general but I never really felt like we’d concede. Their best bet at getting anything was hitting us on the counter and we weren’t going to let that happened once we scored. We’re so solid and organised at the back, it really was just a case of waiting for the seconds to tick by so we could celebrate. Haven’t had a Charlton team like that in a long time

Wycombe have been shot to pieces for the past two months, Orient will be a different game altogether.
It will be more open as Orient are a footballing side, Wycombe used to be but after we slapped them four nil, Dodds tried to kick us and block us, he failed.

    Brener, Friedman and Carter were
I'd really like to hear their thoughts on the occasion
  • Amazing night and result…..our fans cried when a few Wrexham fans gave it us but some of our fans decided to lob flares are their fans. That’s someone getting a knock on the door in the morning and us getting a massive fine….oh well Wembley

Because to be in that atmosphere was something special. I don't remember the premiership years creating that cauldron of noise. It could not have failed to impress the owners, and what's pleasing is that Charlton still have a fan base or a potential fan base that will turn up. One of the best nights I've ever had at the Valley, football was shit, fans were magnificent.
    Absolutely this.
  • Poor game to watch .... no flow ... both sets of  players too scared to put a foot wrong .... but who cares .... we won with a late scrappy goal .... MoM Jones

Charlton will surely get a fine when a young fan runs the length of the pitch to lob a flare at the opposition.
Had a weak throw luckily but he must've been seen on Candid camera.
TBF you're always going to get the odd Cockwomble in our fan base but shame that we can't just celebrate without the shite that happened decades ago returning.

My ears are still buzzing and pleased to see Thierry celebrating at the end as why he was taken off is a mystery when he would've skinned Grimmer who had TC in his pocket tonight and it wasn't a fitness issue as Small was gutted when taken off.
They won't be any repercussions for Nathan as we won but Small had nearly scored when cutting in plus Matty nearly got his head on the ball.
    I know Small hasn't signed a contract...
