MATCH THREAD Charlton Athletic V Wycombe Wanderers : Play Off 2nd leg :Thur 15th May 2025 : KO 20.00

Hi Everyone, and welcome to a sold out Valley and an evening under the lights...

Here we are and second half is about to start of our play-off semi final, tonight we are back at The Valley after all that went on last Sunday and the 0-0 scoreline we came away with from Adams Park, having endured all the shenanigans dished up by Wycombe we now have home advantage, and time to put this lot to the sword, and show them what a real crowd and support looks like in the sold out Valley.
Our 1987 play-off heroes, including Lennie Lawrence, will be parading around the pitch from 7:15pm, they will then be followed at 7:35pm by Patrick Bauer, who dramatically netted the winning goal in the 2018/19 play-off final, plus Jason Pearce and Chris Solly, so get to your seats nice and early.
Chuks is available again following a three-game suspension. Nathan  said: "We’re glad to have Chuks back. We’ve had to suffer three games without him, but he gives us a headache because now he’s available and extremely motivated."
I will be expecting another strong line-up, but at the same time another heavy handed approach from Wycombe, so we will need to be on the go from the first to the last minute,
Dean Whitestone will be the man in the middle tonight, let's hope he's on the ball, and doesn't fall for any more Wycombe shenanigans and play acting, given a fair go at playing our game we should prevail and get the win sorted, hopefully in 90 minutes🙏...

Come on Charlton make this a night to remember, and please no penalties..

Team news...

Thierry Small and Alex Gilbert will start tonight's play-off semi-final second leg game against Wycombe Wanderers as Nathan Jones makes two changes to his side from the first leg.

The pair replace Tennai Watson, who moves to the bench, and Luke Berry, who misses out with a minor injury.

Following his three-game suspension, Chuks Aneke returns to the bench, as does fellow forward Daniel Kanu.

Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey once again will start in a back three in front of goalkeeper Will Mannion.

Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Gilbert joining Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in a midfield three.

Matty Godden and Tyreece Campbell once again start up front together.

Watson, Aneke and Kanu will be joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Alex Mitchell, Karoy Anderson Micah Mbick.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Gilbert, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, A.Mitchell, Watson, Anderson, Aneke, Kanu, Mbick

  • COYA, time for another Addicks hero to step up.
  • Electric atmosphere pending. Let’s do it boys.
  • Bring it on!
  • I hope the players aren’t as nervous as us !!!
No silly challenges early doors in the heat of the moment just keep calm and play them off the park
  • Gutted I can't make this one but I think my partner might kill me if I leave her with a two year old and a two week old! Got permission if we progress to Wembley though...

    Make some noise for me!

No Berry... Gilbert starts, that is a surprise

Small comes back into the eleven, with Aneke and Kanu in for Gilbert and Hylton on the bench

  • I like Gilbert starting and Anderson on the bench, rather than the other way around
  • Massive opportunity for Gilbert. Exciting.

Minor Injury to Berry according to the O/S

Wonder if he hadnt quite recovered from the Wycombe 0-4 win - Got no problem with Gilbert starting though, especially if we get the version of him that played against Burton
  • Happy with that lineup.

No Will Norris for Wycombe... He's out ill

  • Shame there is no Berry but the bench is packed with attacking options....😃
  • We have to go all out, 90+ plus of sheer effort.
  • Gilbert starts. That is a fascinating choice. A shame to be without Berry because his experience could really have helped us tonight but it looks a bit like Jones is looking to harness that excitable crowd early and get a bit of creativity flowing and get the crowd up to help push them back. Maybe get an early goal, revert to being our miserly selves at the back and be able to bring Anderson on to ruin everything for Wycombe after that. I really would have expected him to go for solid but I'm quite happy he's treating this like a game we should be going out and winning. I make him right as well; Orient proved last night that form and points tallies don't mean anything if you can get it to penalties.

Wycombe Goalkeeper tonight hasnt played since January... But was their Goalkeeper under Bloomfield

He's saved two penalties in his career, conceding eight
  • Happy with Gilbert starting, he's been a bit underused recently. With Coventry and Docherty there, we don't need a 3rd workhorse. Hopefully they've been working on set pieces this week.

Also pleased to see Kanu on the bench.

Near post Norris misses out with an "illness". Perhaps he's allergic to Charlton fans giving him stick...
