I actually think it’s a good move, stops people like media teams having to wait around for ages and doesn’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things
Exactly, if you have left things so late that the loss of 4 hours completely ruins your plans then that's probably just bad planning on your part.
The problem is that so many deals rely on other deals happening first, so there's a whole chain of events that get pushed back to the end, whatever the cutoff time.

Preston and Bristol City are both chasing player A from Ipswich

If Preston sign A, then we can sign player B from them, but if Bristol sign A, then Preston will keep B

If we sign B, then we will loan player C to Lincoln

If we don't sign B, then we will try and sign player D from Oxford

If we sign D, the Oxford will try and sign player E on loan from Sunderland

If we sign neither B or D, we will keep player C

    etc
    B from Preston…..Bauer? 😂😂😂

If City and Preston are chasing A, chances are its Al Hamadi. If we go up, just gazump them.

    Josh Koroma anyone?
Excellent! I thought it was good, but my wife thought it was too spicy and went for the Tikka Masala instead.

The EFL has today confirmed the opening and closing dates for the 2025 summer transfer window.

    • Open: Sunday 1 June to Tuesday 10 June (19:00)
    • Close: Tuesday 10 June (19:00:01) to Monday 16 June (00:01)
    • Re-open: Monday 16 June to Monday 1 September (19:00)

Due to an additional FIFA Club World Cup Registration Period introduced ahead of the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, the EFL and its Clubs have agreed that the summer transfer window shall operate for an additional ten-day period from Sunday 1 June 2025 to 19:00 on Tuesday 10 June 2025. This is due to the transfer window being unable to exceed a total of 89 days.

The FIFA regulation on this matter permits the member associations of Clubs playing in the FIFA Club World Cup to establish this exceptional registration period, and there is therefore likely to be considerable transfer activity taking place across the world’s major leagues during this time.

The EFL therefore believes that its Clubs should also have the opportunity to be active in the market at this time.

The FIFA Club World Cup is set to take place between 14 June 2025 and 13 July 2025.

Can I be the first to say: if we don’t sign anyone by the time the window slams shut on June 10, our season is doomed.

Seems ridiculous to close it for a week. Just keep it open Fifa made the rules

He's still a registered player though. I don't know if his coaching contract is permanent, or just tied in with his short term playing contract.

You could read that to mean the budget will be the same whatever league we are in

I’m not convinced you can conclude that.
The better players that would now be prepared to sign for us if we were in the Championship are likely to be higher paid players with bigger fees. Although I would expect most to be coming out of contract.
Those lower in the list that would sign for us if we remain in league 1 maybe prepared to take a salary hit.
I read it that as usual, we have a comprehensive list of players we would want to sign in various positions and all that changes is the likelihood of signing them.

Peter O'Rourke has posted on twitter that Sheff Wed, Derby and Swansea are interested in signing Ricardo Santos following his release from Bolton - Thought I'd post it, seeing a few posts on here have suggested he's on a downward trajectory, which I agree with.

Sonny Bradley released by Derby County. Could see Nathan Jones being interested in him, worked together before of course.

Where does he fit in though? He's not better than Gilley, Jones or Ramsay, and is 33. He'd not make the step back up to the Championship either so unless we lose at Wembley and sell Jones I'd be surprised if he's on the radar

Was a great player a couple of seasons ago be he's had a few bad games against us since plus he's had plenty of injuries. No Thanks

We need to follow the Sunderland model and sign young players with potential.

Docherty, Berry, Hylton, Potts and Campbell have been underwhelming. All likely on high salaries. All oldies. Surely NJ has run out of ex-Luton pals.

Although I'd love to sign Thelo Aasgard, can't imagine relegation is doing much for Hatter's financials on £12k crowds, likely lower in L1.

But Godden has worked out very well. So not always about only looking at young players with potential.

Also don't get the Docherty underwhelming stuff I read a fair bit of on here. The last two games have probably been his 'worst', otherwise been more than good enough, and Jones trusts him enough to captain our side, which says a lot.

Docherty and Berry haven't really been underwhelming though have they. They've come in, done a job and been integral parts of a squad and a first XI that outscored all but Birmingham from December onwards

Hylton was signed more as a coach and only gets into the side because we've spent a lot of this season with 3 injured strikers (Aneke, Leaburn and Kanu at some point, and when one of those was back Ahadme was injured, as well as MBick and Casey for a time too)

Potts was signed as a stop gap when we were low on options at left back and centre back, and only featured a handful of times and Campbell was both A a loan and B shipped off in Jan.
    Agree.

And it's hardly as if we have no young players in our squad.

It's a clichè but good teams  have a blend of youth and experience.

Are you on drugs ? Berry has been a great addition to the squad and im presuming Hylton had served his purpose behind the scenes.

Well as Potts left 4 months ago was an injury reclamation and played 1 game on what possible basis do you suppose he was expensive?

    A. Campbell was a late loan where Luton paid most of his salary and he too left 4 months ago.

Hylton was a part time player coach. Who else did you have in mind for 7th choice striker?

Berry and Docherty contributed 40% of the league goals & assists from midfield ( I include Small & Edwards) That sounds like money well spent. Who did you have in mind who is cheaper.?
