I never understand why they do these sort of presentations to the crowd when most people aren't there. Indeed the whole point of the Fanzone and the Fan's Bar is to get people to arrive early but NOT go to their seat.
Think this time the idea is to get you to your seat, especially with the fan zone and fans bar closing only 15 mins after
It's an 8pm kickoff, why would they close those areas 30 minutes before kickoff?
Don’t the external bars close at 2.30 on Saturdays? Thought that was a licensing requirement.
They're also closing the Fans Bar at 7:30 also, which seems a bit early

That’s where I meant. I think it closes 30 minutes before kick-off usually. Takes time to clear out, obviously.
I often leave the fans bar 10-15 minutes before kickoff, but they may well stop serving 30 minutes before. I think last entry is possibly 30 minutes before, too.
Think the fans who went to Birmingham should also be paraded - wonder how many of us are left or could prove we were there
And Elland Road blimy that was scary.
The ONLY time I was pleased to go by organised transport.
Elland Road was scary indeed, them trying to turn the bus back to the station, literally, was a bit dangerous. At least at St Andrews Birmingham kindly turned up to distract the Leeds fans from us
Walking towards New Street and a LOT of Birmingham by the station giving 40 odd Charlton a pat on the back.
The Players are from 59 for Rob Lee to Lennie Lawrence who is 77; they walk slowly around the pitch as their bodies are battered from their playing days. CAFC ex PE teacher and ex manager looks the fittest!🤦🏻♂️
The fans in their seats at 7.15 will remind the Players of the size of the crowd at 'home games' at Palace 🤷🏻♂️
I was at the Full members match against Birmingham, 2nd round 1986/87 when they announced the crowd changes to the players 🙄
Went to both the home leg at you-know-where (Selhurst, sigh) and the away leg at Elland Road. Made the journey with three Maltese lads — absolute characters — who’d got comps off Colin Walsh. We ended up sitting in a stand that looked right down on the terrace packed with Charlton fans. The atmosphere? Easily the most intimidating match I’ve ever been to.
You could see outside Elland Road — Leeds fans were on rooftops just to get a glimpse. Proper gladiatorial stuff. Police horses were charging into crowds directly outside our stand like something out of Braveheart. Walking down the road afterwards, we were like walking targets — three Maltese blokes in slick leather jackets, me tagging along, all casual’d up. Leeds fans spotted us, swarmed — it was turning nasty until the police stepped in. Big relief when we were safely heading back south, adrenaline still pumping.
That experience actually put me off going to the St Andrews replay. I remember staying home, glued to the radio, pacing the living room like a lunatic. Then catching the highlights on TV and feeling absolutely sky-high. That kind of buzz that makes you love this club.
I reckon the 1987 squad should be brought out at 7.30pm sharp on Thursday — if they do it at 7.15, it'll be a ghost town outside with everyone still battling chaos at the turnstiles.
On a brighter note, I was lucky enough in 1998 to have a mate filming titles for Match of the Day, and he invited me to the Valley where he was filming with none other than Sasa Ilic. I stood pitchside watching it all happen, proper surreal moment. Best part? Afterwards I gave Sasa a lift back as he lived in West London. Having a Wembley hero in the passenger seat? That’s a special Charlton memory.
Stupid planning it for 7.15pm. I'll be surprised if there's 5,000 in their seats by then. 7.30pm earliest would have been more sensible and encourage fans to be in by then.
Depends what else they are planning if anything?
We need 30 minutes after the parade for me to do a reenactment of all my Charlton goals with Frank Skinner and David Baddiel.
I recall when Leeds scored the first goal, Bremner who was their manager then, ran out of his dugout and did a aeroplane right in front of the few Charlton fans there. I thought it was a bit classless at the time.
Could always roll out Johnny Fortune - seeing as it will be 20 years to the day, since his late header.
What a day. Even sweeter as I was sat just over the hospitality wall in the West Stand, full of Palace fans. I did enjoy celebrating that one, and no, I’m not Richard Murray.

I can - I’ve still got the ticket stubs to all three games.
I've still got mine too. Felt more scared at Elland Rd than I did at St Andrews. I think they brought in metal detectors for the home game, the rumour was that Leeds fans would smuggle razor blades inside hamburgers. Even I thought that was probably bollocks at the time (the story and the burgers).
I'm surprised Rob Lee will be there. I thought he'd wiped us from his history.
Isn't that a bit of a myth?
A bit like the myth that tennis commentators referred to Andy Murray as British when he won and Scottish when he lost?
I make you right.
Reality is the Newcastle move was fantastic for him and the majority of his career spent there. It’s just natural that is what he is known for outside of our Charlton bubble and he will be most asked about.
It’s just a way of getting people into their seats, it’s not us celebrating already. It’s good to recognise legends, the club hadn’t done it enough recently until the ex players association got off the ground. If you don’t like it then just ignore it and let other people have their fun!
This isn't a meaningless end of season game where there's space for this.
It feels like it's becoming a bit of a "celebration" - almost a party atmosphere.
We haven't done anything yet. Keep the legends for the first game back in The Championship if we win the next two games.
If WW need anything to gee them up, just tell them that we are already celebrating.
Wycombe unlikely will have a clue who they are and just see it as some ex-players walking on the pitch. Not like they're going to be parading the trophy around.

There wasn't a trophy in 1987 and they wouldn't pay the museum a big enough fee to hire the 2019 and 1998 trophies

If they are planning something else maybe they should choose which one is more important, personally I think it's almost an insult to "pay tribute" to our former heroes when the ground will be practically empty.

Unless they are saying 7.15pm to get more in early. But they won't come out to 7.30pm earliest.
