MATCH THREAD Wycombe Wanderers V Charlton Athletic : Play Off 1st leg : Sun 11th May 2025 : KO 18.30

Hi everyone...
So here we are at the business end of the season and the first leg of the play-offs is upon us, tonight we travel to Adams Park for the away leg with Wycombe Wanderers, and no messing about today, we need to be travelling home with at least a draw, that is the minimum, but I feel we should be capable of getting a lead to take into Thursday's second leg at The Valley.
We all know what happened in the league encounter in April where we left with a clean sheet and a 0-4 scoreline, a repeat would be nice but I feel this will be a tighter game, and as long as we get the result by one goal, that will be good.
We will once again be backed by a sold out away end in Buckinghamshire, with over 1,800 supporters making the trip to Adams Park for the second time in a month, incredible support...
Asked for a team news update, Nathan:said "We're in a stronger position than we were last week, so that's a positive. We have to see how everyone comes through, but with the time we've given a few of them a few days.", so hopefully being stronger means a possible return of Small, Berry and Jones, maybe not starting but on the bench.

We've met Wycombe on 15 previous occasions, winning eight, drawing two and tasting defeat on four occasions, and we all know that last month resulted in a comprehensive 0-4 win on Easter Monday, with Lloyd Jones, Luke Berry, Matty Godden and Karoy Anderson all netting on the day.

The Addicks will be wearing their yellow away kit today, so here we go everybody, lets get behind the lads and cheer them on to a first leg lead

Team news...

Will Mannion, Lloyd Jones and Luke Berry return to the starting line-up for this evening’s play-off semi-final first leg against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

There is also a place on the bench for the returning Thierry Small.

It means the Addicks are expected to line-up with Kayne Ramsay, Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of Mannion.

Tennai Watson and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Berry joining Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in a midfield three.

21-goal Matty Godden once again partners Tyreece Campbell up front.

Small is joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Alex Mitchell, Karoy Anderson, Alex Gilbert, Danny Hylton and Micah Mbick.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Watson, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, A.Mitchell, Small, Anderson, Gilbert, Hylton, Mbick

  • I'd expect them to travel even if not quite fit. But I really hope they are, it will be a psychological knock for WW

Chesterfield 0-2 Walsall - One game left from the first leg of the EFL Play-Offs... So far ALL away sides have come away with a result with Stockport the only ones drawing... I think its this that makes me feel more uncomfortable than anything.

Good stuff. Nice have all 3 back. Berry and Small have not played since the Wycombe game, so we have a balance there.

Ah yes, we're forgetting that Mannion returns too!
  • Jones and Berry start, Small on the bench, so good news there...
  • Very happy with that starting eleven / bench.

Yeah might have been a bit too risky throwing them all back in at the same time without much match fitness these last couple of weeks - Watson has been pretty solid as well
  • Small on bench, one man away from full strength first 11
  • Come on!!!!!!
  • Hylton winner at the death.
  • Would prefer Kanu on the bench as has some league goals under his belt
  • Notice that Wycombe are going with Udoh and Onyedinma from the off this week, they went a bit more conservative against us at Adams Park with those two left on the bench.

Although they came on, and didnt really effect the match, albeit the score was 0-2, and then 0-4 when they came off the bench on that occasion.
  • Striking options from the bench look weak.

I’d have had Kanu but we aren’t flush full of options
