You know who played out those dots? Shane Watson. You wanna know how many runs he has now? 117 off 57

Sunrisers excellent bowling made to look very ordinary for the most part. Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar combined for eight overs conceding 41.

Sadly the rest conceded 140 off of 10.3 overs!

Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes the youngest IPL debutant at 14 years and 23 days.

Seen a few people being quite sceptical of this as there is apparently an interview with him in September 2023 where he said he was 14. But would BCCI (he's played for India U19) and the IPL aloow this without proper checks?

Personally i would say that whilst you can obviously get child prodigy's it seems unlikely he's smashing professional adult bowlers all over the place when he's only just turned 14. Seems more realistic that he's 15 and about to turn 16.

    Thoughts?

Well this "14 year old" is currently on 100* off 35 balls for the Rajasthan Royals including 30 off one over!!! The fastest ever ton in the IPL is 30 balls by Chris Gayle and Vaibhav's is now the second fastest.

He's actually 16, but a hell of a knock regardless

Yeah I'm not convinced he's actually 14 but one hell of an innings.

Someone needs to tell the IPL and the commentators because not once has any of them suggested he's 16. His Cricinfo and Wiki pages give his DOB as 27th March 2011. The innings was, indeed, unreal nevertheless.

I don't for one second believe he's 14, but even if he's 15/16/17 that is still a ridiculous innings from an incredible talent.

70 off 40 for Jaiswal too. Will be interesting to see him in English conditions this summer

    Why don’t you believe he’s 14?
  • I was lucky enough to be there last week to witness a truly special moment — watching the young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi bat for the Rajasthan Royals! I’ve always loved the IPL, and fulfilling a lifelong ambition to see a game live in India was genuinely unforgettable. By a stroke of good fortune, my time in Jaipur coincided with the debut of an incredibly talented young player — only 14 or was he 16 years old, doesn't matter, believe me, he is absolutely one to watch for the future.

It was a magical evening, filled with an electric atmosphere and a wonderfully welcoming crowd. The energy in the stadium was off the charts! Fans were incredibly friendly, with lots of people asking for selfies — many of them amazed that I follow the IPL all the way from London! I landed back in London on Easter Monday to yet more good news: the Addicks had beaten Wycombe Wanderers! My son and his mate, who had been at the game, were buzzing with excitement when they came to pick me & my wife up at Heathrow. Now it’s time to buckle up for the rollercoaster ride that is the play-offs — bring it on!

  • Every fan was given a RR shirt with their ticket, the stadium announcer cranked up the atomsphere sadly RR lost on the final ball. It made me think that altough The Valley can rock we need to create a 4th wall of noise and make it the Valley a real fortress for the play offs.

There's a youtube video of an interview with him that was posted in 2023 in which he says his 14th birthday was on 27 September 2023, which would make him a year and a half older than his official age.

Given that he is smashing world class adult bowlers all over the place, i think it's far more feasible that he is actually 15 and a half as opposed to a kid who five weeks ago was still 13. He only turned '14' at the end of March.

But regardless of his age, he is still unbelievable and doing something that no kid has ever done.

I thought the video had his actual birthday two and a half years ahead of what is claimed, not one and a half. Regardless, still an absurd talent. I remember watching the highlights of him taking Aus U19s for a hundred opening the batting in a red-ball game over the winter, was staggering stuff too obviously

Also a video stating he was 14 in September 2023.

So whichever is true he is not 14.

Depending on where you look, he's 14, 15 or even 16. But like you say, he's an amazing talent years ahead of where he should be.

  • magical night to be there to see the young star of Indian cricket make his IPL debut, I think we will be hearing alot about Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the years to come.
  • I was really impressed with the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan which is  the home ground of Rajasthan Royals. We had to go through 3 security checks with tickets and on entry to the ground with our ticket every fan was given a RR shirt. The stadium announcer was on it for an hour before the game started so atomsphere was really electric when match started. I remember the Donny 2019 play off atomsphere we could do with same for the play-offs this time, but not the result.
some fans might find it naff but a flag or scraff on every seat to create a 4th red wall would be a nice gesture.

    No mate.
Perhaps I wasn't making myself clear.

There is a video from 2023 where he says he is 14.
So that would make him 16 now.

Looks like it's properly kicking off over there now...
