Hector is a really weird player. It seems like he's a poster boy for the limited distance talent can take you if you just don't feel like putting the work in. Chelsea obviously saw something in him as a bit of a late bloomer but he never delivered on that promise and then seemed happy enough to be shunted about wherever. I think he's just not that bothered anymore and I don't think he was really that bothered to begin with. There are players with half his ability playing well above his level because they are willing to work and throw themselves into the game but I'm sure he's happy enough with what he's got out of it.
Reminds me of Johnny Williams - another player who has the ability to play much higher than where he is, but seems like he lost that extra desire you need at the higher levels.
I'd say injuries held Johnny back more than anything. I don't think you could excuse him of not trying. Didn't he take a paycut to stay with us, where he was happy and getting minutes?
Injuries definitely held him back, too, although I'd argue in a different way. He's been in L2 for the past three seasons and has played 45, 39 and 49 games and is still there, and not really pulling up any trees.

He always struck me as someone who wasn't bothered about winning, scoring, etc.. Some players have that urgent desire.

Rather an odd career after leaving us, as he went up to Championship Cardiff for 6 months, then dropped straight down to L2 where he's in his 4th season now.

Also strange that in 22/23 for Swindon he scored 10 goals in 37 league games (and was their top scorer), whereas the next season for Gillingham in 42 league games he failed to score at all!

A player who has had a career of over 400 professional games...but yep, everything you think is probably right - he couldn't be bothered from the start....

Was surprised to see that with us he'd played the second most games in his career, only 10 fewer than for Reading.

He's had a ridiculous number of loan moves. Indeed he's played in an amazing number of divisions, virtually every level in the English pyramid, plus he's played in Ireland, Scotland and Germany!

This has been very much my view.
For his sake, hopefully his financial future is bright and he has not missed out on earning large sums of money.

    Tony Watt as well?

  • He is back, loses first game (4-2) in baller league and gets booed.

Back for the (relegation) fight on Monday then back to the baller league. (unless Mr Ginge transfers him out).
  • Fulham > Charlton > Dagenham... Prioritising staying in London?
Didn't really do much with Dagenham probably will probably have more Baller League minutes than Dagenham

    Did you mean balls-up minutes?
  • Hector seems to be a strange case.
He's been able to play at high level but he has roamed around and had many clubs.
Reports/Rumours say that personal circumstances have taken priority over his career, if true, that can be commended.

  • Unless personal circumstances is a predilection for a large bong before matches, before training or indeed on waking up in the morning.
  • Shows how bad our CBs were last year. Thomas get relegated to the conference and Hector can’t even play in a 6 a side tv game.

Quite a few ex Addicks participating
    -Martyn Waghorn
    - Michael hector
    - Kurtis cumberbatch
    - Josh Parker
    - Daniel Bowry
    -Kadell Daniel
    - Marvin sordell
    - Timmy Abraham
  • Obviously he's been buried at the crossroads with a stake through his heart and obviously his deficiencies were pretty glaring in retrospect (chiefly: not wanting to run much, being a bit dozy), but for 95% of the time he looked imperious and could do wonderful things with the ball and in the challenge. I suppose what I've learnt is that a defender is as good as their worst 5%

If it really was 95/5 he would still be playing for a league club.

I think it’s quite clear that his motivations  have not been to play at the highest level possible. After leaving us he’d easily have been able to pick up a deal in the EFL, but location is all that matters to him, and fair play to him for prioritising his family over his career/earnings

Irrelevant. That was then, this is recent/present.

I called he was better than every centre back we had at the time, and it was ridiculed, repeatedly.

There isn't a single centre back we had on our books at the time playing at a higher level now, they can't even get League 2 contracts.

Piergianni might be a Championship player next year, and even if he isn't, it is beyond doubt he is a top League 1 centre back, like I said at the time.

I'm not sure it's that worthy, a 32/33 year old effectively giving up his professional career 3 years early.

It's not as if footballers can take a career break for the family, and then return 5 years later.

Tbf we had Lloyd Jones so in hindsight ridicule was correct. Not sure if we also had Gillesphey at the time but he’s also proven to be a much better all-round player than Piergianni.

Piergianni has certain strengths that work if he plays for a certain style team. He would have been a poor signing for us but he’s great for Stevenage
  • Piergianni has peaked at League 1, it's not irrelevant.

Hector's lower ebb of his career is League 1.

You have a weird obsession with a bang average defender who would look like an absolute donkey in a Nathan Jones defence, and can't take it when people call it out for what it is, a shit take
