My understanding is the EPPP rules (really is naff all compensation which is set in stone) are for youngsters who have never signed a contract.
For U24s who have signed a contract (irrespective if what academy they came through), the club they are leaving gets compensation set at a tribunal. It is unlikely to be enough to satisfy fans but won't be peanuts like the EPPP system.

We’ll get a lot more compensation for him if we go up and he leaves.

He's certainly not the finished article yet - that's why he's with us. He has definitely improved whilst with us and if had any sense he would stay next season and continue his development. Got the feeling though that he'll be listening to his agent.0

Yeah, I get that, but he's so much better bombing forward than defending. Having Ramsey behind him helps as he plays centre half, right back and wingback at the same time lol I wasn't knocking Small, I have a lot of time for him and I love the way he just keeps going even if things don't come off for him. TBH I would love him to stay, but wouldn’t be too upset if he left, as good as he is and his potential I think he’s replaceable.0

One other factor is that he's a midlands boy and if a club playing at a higher level and north of Watford showed interest then I think it would suit him.0

I don't think it is all down to agents. Players generally have a belief in their own ability to step up. If he moves on he’ll need a team where he has the freedom to get forward and take players on. He needs to keep working on his consistency and end product. It won’t help his progression if he’s in a team where he’s relied on as the only pacey threat in the team, or has to focus mainly on defending.0 -
We lost Dobbo and Alfie last summer and we look like jumping from 16th to the playoffs. At league one level, this shouldn’t be that hard to replicate.wmcf123 said:

Embarrassing comment and wrong.
He put two excellent crosses over, one for Godden's header and another one from the left when Berry etc couldn't get their shot off. I think there was a third cross as well which no one got on the end of.Of course at times he has two left feet and others tmes magic feet.
I can't add enough that the reason we are doing well in the 2nd half of the season is because of Thierry whether on the left or right and the regular boys at the back, plus the skills of TC who couldn't quite deliver today.
Both TC and Small are the players who go past defenders and at times they will lose the ball as they both get double marked.
Next season Small will be playing higher than league 1; either with or without Charlton.2 -
Small produced some quality moments today.
I'm not sure I've seen such an inconsistent player ever play for Charlton though as sometimes he looks Premier League quality, and other times National League South. It's the PL quality moments which will ensure he's in the Championship next season, as coaches will fancy themselves to reduce the non league moments.2 -
The cross for Berry's shot was mishit and went to Berry who was arriving late then managed to get his shot away. The other cross was overhit to the far post. His showboating got him caught when defending second half and he ran the ball out twice when he had a chance to cross. In fairness to him and your comment, him moving onto the right gave us a better attacking impetus and has improved the teams form, but his last three games have not lived up to his early promise, he was non existent against Lincoln and Cambridge, slightly better today when he went left side, but he wasn't in the game first half, although he wasn't alone in that stat.soapboxsam said:Bailey said:

Not guaranteed it will happen, but I think that's the gamble that a championship club would take.1 -
The showboating needs to stop, as it rarely gains him any advantage over a defender.Often tries to take one too many touches, which when it comes off is great - but is a frustrating watch a lot of the time.
I’m not entirely convinced he would jump up to the Championship with ease the way he is currently. Still got time to improve of course.3 -
Campbell is generally the go-to option when the ball goes out wide which means Small probably isn't seen as getting into the game as much as he should do.
But the beauty of having Campbell and Small both out wide is that they're both as destructive as anybody in this division, i'm sure I saw a stat posted by someone that had Campbell with the most successful dribbles in the league but quite overlooked was Small in 3rd place with only Louie Barry inbetween which shows even if Campbell gets the ball more often, that Small just by being there is just as much a threat too.
Take Small out of the team and Campbell gets doubled up on, with Small out there too it's hard for teams to double up on both.
Admittedly he needs to rein in the showboating but he's still very much a match-winner in himself still.7 -
People are trying to compare him to TC and that's unfair. As a wing back he has to attack and defend. TC only has to do the former for the most part.1
