Ticket purchase question

I have a season ticket and buy my Son a matchday ticket near me when he can come to a game. Up to recently downloaded it as a mobile phone barcode which was presented to the scanner on arrival. Last 3 times (including today) it only gives the option to "print it at home" and take the paper ticket to the game,  or add to Apple Wallet. Is this something I'm doing wrong or is this the norm now ? Was going to call ticket office but thought it would be quicker asking here. Thanks.

Ignore above, my Daughter has explained how it now works to this dinosaur. You pick the wallet option and it's emailed to you with the option to add it to whatever wallet you use . I don't but my son does.

I am a dinosaur too. I think, what if my phone plays up? I prefer a printed ticket.

I've gone for physical ST, my sons not always going to be around to show me what to do.

I didn't understand the 'wallet' option either (and still don't) so I opted for collection at the ground. I don't know why the barcode can't go to my email address as it used to.

If your son’s not there, they’ll be plenty of others around to show you so that’s not an issue, but like you we’ve opted for physical tickets for a variety of reasons.

I tend to dump everything into the wallet and I’ve a relatively new phone so battery life isn’t an issue just yet but it just seems to me that, where I’m using the phone for just about everything these days, leaving home without a full charge, getting to the ground without a back up credit card in my pocket and a physical ticket to get in is just tempting fate.

I’m a dinosaur too. When they send me the ticket I ask Siri to photo the code then present it at the turnstile. Not had a problem so far. I don’t understand the wallet thing

The wallet is more reliable and faster to process at the gate than the barcode. It only needs to be near the reader as opposed to correctly lining up the barcode.

Agreed, it is like having the physical season ticket on your phone

I use my android wallet for concerts and now thanks to the posts above shall use it for my sons CAFC tickets - he can just use my phone at the turnstile. Thanks all.

I find the barcode really easy to use, and never have trouble lining it up.

The delays are usually caused by people ahead of me using their phones, having to make the QR code bigger or smaller, turning up the brightness because the sun is shining at an awkward angle etc  :D

I'm good on the technology and get the wallet thing but I've gone for the physical S/T.  Have all mine going way back with the booklets and the printed individual games...

don't use my phone 'wallet' for anything else so I've gone for the physical card too.

I’d been too superstitious until now even to look up the curry house on the basis it might jinx us getting to the final.

I’ve just Googled and it is “permanently closed” so I’m off that particular tradition hook!

Which is why they've introduced the wallet. As I said there is nothing to line up. The phone just has to held near the reader.
  • I received print-at-home tickets rather than a mobile ticket to add to my google wallet. Presume I can/am better off just doing this manually?

I have always just scanned the barcode from the email on my phone so you should be fine

I have seen that you can't do this but it does work as you are saying. Last season I was meeting some Norwegian friends at the Valley and bought the tickets which I printed out. I was caught in traffic and was going to miss the start and took photos of each ticket and mailed it to them which they used to get in before kick off.
