Why hate Palace?

This is what it's all about.JiMMy 85 said:I have personal reasons for hating that club but I don't even need them to justify it. That clubs is a non-entity. It's the club that people choose to support when they don't know anything about football and want to pick a club that isn't a big gun or is local. It's a members club for morons.
I mean this with every ounce of my being: I do not take seriously a single word any of them say about football. It's the same as when my mum or sister comment on a game on the TV. There's nothing to gain from talking to them, they don't know a fucking thing about what they're watching. And I tell them that to their faces. My in-laws are supporters and they are bemused at how much I lose my shit when they get me started. They do it for fun but I cannot help it. Crucially, they never have a defence. They make jibes at the plight of the Addicks and yet I don't give a fuck about that, it's not relevant to my point. This isn't tribal - I hate them because they are fucking no-marks.
They're desperate to have some sort of cache. Age of the club, location, quality of support - they are desperate to be something other than the utterly uninteresting football club that they are. They've got no angle no matter how hard they try to find one.
I hate that they have had FA Cup runs to enjoy, and I cannot handle how close they have come to winning it. BUT... United beating them is in the top 10 non-Charlton celebrations I have ever had. Maybe top 3. It was worth the tension. The pay off was brilliant.
I have a good mate who is Palace and he's saved as Eagle Shagging Bastard in my contacts and has been for years.
They simply can't win the FA Cup this season, it will be such a terrible moment.
I'm with Jimmy, when ManU won that recent FA Cup final I celebrated it more than some Charlton wins.
It is quite literally the only thing we have over them currently, and long may it last.8 -
Why hate Palace? There are lots of excellent reasons but the best answer is probably, Why not?3

It’s a brilliant post and spot on. I get them saying “oh you’re just jealous of our recent success”.JiMMy 85 said:I have personal reasons for hating that club but I don't even need them to justify it. That clubs is a non-entity. I would rather watch Millwall play Sunday league level, or to not even be into football at all, than watch palace in the champions league surrounded by those out and out cockwombles.22 -

I hate both Palace & Millwall
while living in UK had a few Millwall mates
but didn’t even know any Palace fans at all
since moving to sunny climes met a couple
of ex pat’s Palace lads. They’ve become
good mates, got your back sort, & they know
a few Charlton faces & names from back in
the 80’s while following England abroad.
Thing is they think this Ultras crap is more
cringe then we do !!Still doesn’t stop me mentioning the M23 Derby
which does wind them up0 -

I just don’t think that you really have thought through what you're saying.
Do you really think it was a fair deal to consign them to 8 years of Championship football and 12 subsequent years of Premier League, and in return we take 2 more years of Premier League, 7 years of Championship football and 12 years of League One football.
’The s*** we have gone through and going in opposite directions for the past 20 years has been worth it for the joy of the 15th May 2005.’
Really? Look at our comparative recent history. You’re more than happy to push us into the dustbin of history and for them to build up their club having great timesalong the way, just for one match of schadenfreude for us?! Bonkers!!

Expect it's something to do with Palace losing 2 goal advantages in the Premiership, and us leaving it a bit too late to automatically get out of League 1.Lordflashheart said:

Seen a few posts looking at past trade offs, but how about future ones.
If you could choose only one of the following this season, which would it be?
a) Charlton get promoted
b) Palace don't win FA Cup
(You must assume if you pick one, then other won't happen as it's a trade off?)
I'm an 'a', so would rather go up and Palace win the cup than we don't and Palace lose.

Reality- our club has sunk so so low and Palace have an abundance of money and talent. We are not on the same football planet. Can't dislike them now. But I don't like them, just indifference.0

I have hated them since the early 80s. It got a lot worse when we had to play there. There are only 2 teams in south london Wall and us. Personally i used to go to Millwall and Charlton in the 70s when i was a kid and have no issue with them compared to these stripey fucking mugs.7

Went once with DH would of been late 70's...we lost 2-0, went once before that with my dad, brother in law (in his car...after removing Charlton stickers from the back window) and cousin Rob....we stood on the half way line and my brother in law and cousin had to keep telling my dad to mind his p's and q's, we got some filthy looks but nothing worse....think we lost that one to....hope all is well with you mate.Greenhithe said:I have hated them since the early 80s. Thing is you’re a big club for this league. If you don’t go up this season you’ll have a very good chance in the next year or two.SteveACS said:

Another Hypothetical one for you all, you have to choose one…
A. Millwall win the play offs and make it to the promised land
B. Palace win the FA Cup

First question really hits home. Common sense says it should be A, but the small time bitterness close to Tartan Army levels means it's B. If we don't go up this year it's not the end of the world and maybe we go up next season. An FA Cup win is a once in a lifetime event you'll savour forever. I'm sure Wigan fans are still buzzing despite being in League One now.2 -
Palace win the cup - that’s how irrelevant they are to me - A is unthinkableMillwallFan said:Another Hypothetical one for you all, you have to choose one…

Just to see you get no points and score no goals in the Premier League.

Take away all the well deserved bollocks that surrounds them, and that is well documented here, I have hated Palace since coming out of theirs at a night game, in the 80's(?) and having bricks and bottles lobbed at us. As we were starting off after them, just like Mr Benn, a load of coppers appeared from nowhere, one sargent pushing me back and saying "No son, that's our job", as they all piled after them...
Never got them, never will and as for being South London, fuck off!5 -
Plus the police bill costs will see them out of pocket as wellMacronate said:

Definitely A. We're the only one of the three that's got a major trophy to our name. It's far more important to me that that remains the case.MillwallFan said:Another Hypothetical one for you all, you have to choose one…

Much like us, and Palace, the most you can hope for is a few seasons treading water in the Premier League. I'll be jealous that you're up there, but nothing I haven't experienced myself.
I think I'd rather you went up than Palace qualified for Europe as well.4 -

Only conceding 127 goals? They would bite your hand off for that.4 -
That’s true but a silver lining is that millwall woukd then be the only south London club without a major trophy - give them something to be even angrier about 😂MrLargo said:
