MATCH THREAD : Cambridge United V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 12th April 2025 : KO 15:00

Good afternoon one and all.
And on one of the hottest days of the year, we travel the relatively short distance up to the beautiful city of Cambridge and a visit to The Cledera Abbey Stadium, where Cambridge United are today's opponents.
And after our no show first hour last week against Lincoln, a real chance to bounce right back to winning ways against a team currently sitting in 23rd place in the league table, but they also seemed to have steadied the ship of late with three draws, and a 1-0 win last time out against  bottom club Shrewsbury, so we will need to be on our A game today to come away with all three points, which I feel we should be capable of doing.

Asked for the latest on the fitness of TC and Jones, Nathan said "TC had calf tightness so we didn't take any chances with that, he's a lot closer to the squad, Lloyd exactly the same, we haven't rushed these because their two of our best players".

We've locked horns on 26 previous occasions winning 10, The "U's" 7 and the remaining 9 meetings resulting in draws, we ran out 2-1 winners on the reverse fixture at The Valley, on Boxing Day, thank's to goals from TC and Leaburn.

We will be wearing our RED home kit today...

Here we go...

Team news...

Tyreece Campbell returns to the starting line-up this afternoon.

The 21-year-old missed last weekend’s game against Lincoln City with a minor calf injury and returns to the side in place of Karoy Anderson.

It means the Addicks are likely to start with a back three of Kayne Ramsay, Tom McIntyre and Macaulay Gillesphey in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Luke Berry and captain Greg Docherty.

Campbell joins 17-goal Matty Godden in a front two.

Micah Mbick is named on the substitutes bench and is joined by Dean Bouzanis, Tennai Watson, Anderson, Alex Gilbert, Gassan Ahadme and Chuks Aneke.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, McIntyre, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Campbell, Godden

Subs: Bouzanis, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Ahadme, Aneke, Mbick

TC starts and Mbick makes the bench!
Mbick has been put back in the side quickly after his long injury hasnt he!!
  • Just arrived in The Netherlands to watch this one. Great day out for all those at Cambridge today. COYR let's have a big fat juicy win

  • Very much attack minded bench,...
  • Aneke winner today.
  • No Dixon is strange. Surprised Mitchell isn’t on the bench either. In NJ we trust.
  • No problem with the first XI but that bench? No central defender, no Dixon? I assume there's an explanation.
  • Interesting to see Mbick involved so soon after a long injury. He’s more of a physical presence than Dixon, so I can only think Jones feels that could be more useful today than Dixon’s pace.

Great to see TC back and starting, shame about Jones but not worth rushing him back.

Despite subbing McIntyre after his error last week NJ has kept faith in him.

Louis Mendez has confirmed Dixon, Hylton and Mitchell are there as the spare men in the squad.
  • M'Bick I believe is just back from injury, and played his first competitive match for an hour the other day with the U21's.
  • Stupidly unbalanced bench. How is MBick a better option than Dixon if you already have Ahadme and Aneke there. Also ridiculous to leave Mitchell out and have no CB on there....3 strikers FFS.
    This.

NJ said he blames himself for last week's line-up. Him saying it again when we fail to win this afternoon will be no comfort !

Exactly... Its pretty obvious at this point
  • Very attack minded bench.

Surprised to see M'Bick on the bench but not to see Dixon dropped.

    No mitchell seems odd.

1 - 2 with Aneke scoring late on.
  • Strange bench that

Mitchell must be injured surely? Can't see the logic otherwise.
  • I hope sticking with McIntyre and no Mitchell is not a mistake .. this will be a game for battlers and tough guys, not to disparage McI too much, BUT i m o Mitchell is a proper tough guy

  • Bloody Wycombe score in injury time .
