"Declan Rice is the first player to ever score two direct free kick goals in a knockout match in the Champions League"

Has Rice ever taken a free kick for England?
    He has for Ireland.

Incredible performance from Arsenal but as good as they were, Madrid were really bad. Felt like Ancelotti had no gameplan at all and their front 3 were anonymous.

Still wouldn't bet against Madrid going through, especially if they score early in the second leg, but this is not a good Madrid side as their last few games have shown.
It's not as if they can go easy in the league at the weekend, as they're 4 points behind Barca now.

The second free kick is one of the most aesthetically pleasing I’ve ever seen. Almost hit the post and into the roof of the net from 25 yards.

The Arsenal set piece coach actually told him to cross the first set piece  :D

Unbelievable free kicks from Rice. If I was an Arsenal fan I'd be worried one of the big teams in the Premier league will come in for him.

He's barely taken any at all!

12 apparently according to BBC Sport.

Mad he suddenly turned into prime Beckham on free kicks.

Yeah apparently Odegaard and their set piece coach told him to cross it, but Saka told him if you fancy it then just go for it. So he did.

Hopefully Arsenal don't fold in the 2nd leg. Madrid going out would be lovely.

Anyone who remembers a few years ago when Barcelona overturned a 4-0 first leg defeat to PSG to somehow progress will know this tie is far from over.

If Madrid score early then anything can happen in the Bernabeu, and Arsenal have an absolutely awful record in decisive cup knockout matches over the past few seasons.

The huge caveats to this are:
    a) Madrid need at least 3 goals. The last time Arsenal conceded 3 was in December 2023, 83 games ago.
    b) Madrid have never recovered from a three goal first-leg deficit to win a Champions League knockout tie

The first goal is key. An early Mbappe goal and Arsenal may start wobbling, and early Arsenal goal kills it.
