I only knew him on here and not in real life, but it still feels like a sad loss. I followed the opening of his pub with interest and always fancied visiting as from what I read on here it sounded great. Sadly, not being local, it was one of those things I never got around to. RIP Mike.1

RIP Mike. I had unfortunately moved out to Derbyshire before you opened your pub, so never had the good fortune to have sunk a pint or two with you in there.0

Very sad news, although I only visited his pub, in the early days, it had a good atmosphere, and served good beer, although I am not an expert, it had a very good reputation. My condolences to his son, who helped my son's team out by playing in goal, when we were let down by our own goalie , just before we moved down here 8 odd years ago., Condolences to him, and his family.2

            Sad to hear this news.
I never met him, but right from the earliest CL days read his posts with anticipation - often amusing, he certainly knew how to play Devil's advocate.
RIP Chirpy.

Really sorry to hear this news. I didn't really know him on here, but Mike created something really special with The Long Pond. I used to cycle up to my parents' place in Sidcup partly so I could pop in for a before-closing-time pint on the way back. The Long Pond inspired the mighty fine River Ale House down the road from me, and I expect a few others as well. Not many of us can leave a legacy like that.
I'll join in with those raising a glass to him. RIP.6 -
Sincere condolences to family and friends. RIP0

This is really sad news. Never did make it to the Long Pond but used to enjoy a pint and a chat with him down at the Beehive back in the day. RIP Chirpy2

That was shock, reading that news!
I met him a couple of times in The Long Pond. As many have said he was a big character on this forum.
It's an awful way to lose someone in that way: No time for goodbyes, just all the memories they left behind. You'll live long in ours.
RIP Mike/Chirpy/Riviera.1 -
