Hope the penny dropped for jones today. Anderson runs around a lot but isn’t very good!!!!
What Anderson definitely isn’t is a striker or left winger. He still has potential as a central midfielder. He’s a year younger than TC, and look how far he’s come from a year ago when players like Kanu got in the team ahead of him. He’s overtaken him by a long way and now seen as a key player.
Jones has to take the blame for playing Anderson in an unsuitable position and the credit for fixing it at half time. Chuks made a big difference and showed again that he has a role to play for the rest of the season. We always have a chance with Godden on the pitch and I still can't believe their keeper saved his header.
The defence looked shaky today and showed how much we do miss Jones when he's out. After a promising game against Mansfield, McIntyre was disappointing and got brushed off far too easily for their second goal.
Love how we rallied after their second goal and we could easily have won it. I thought the ref had a stinker, hopefully we don't get him in the play-offs (yes, we are definitely going to make those).
Lincoln played well, especially in the first half where they targeted Coventry to stop our attacks from formulating. They were hanging on for most of the second half with lots of frustrating timewasting that we would have lapped up in the same position.
Disappointing to drop 2 points at home but we probably would have taken a draw and a win from Mansfield and Lincoln given our current injuries to attacking players. Just happened the other way round to expected.
is it possible NJ set a points target for the boys and they hit it early? Call me a conspiracy theorist nut job - tin hats all the way.. we have gone 4 months without any injuries and then all of a sudden 3 significant players out in a week? Dixon suddenly in the fold?
I think the team is being set up for play offs and has been for a few weeks. i.e - give the key players a few weeks off then throw them in for the last couple so they are match fit but rested.
it's convenient that the exact key players seem to be out and resting at the same time... first Edwards, then give jones a week or so, and now TC... wonder if small will get an "injury" this week?
I don’t think not having TC or Jones today was the problem - it was the formation / line up at the start - NJ quite simply got it completely wrong, particularly where he played Anderson - we were Lambs to the slaughter first half, against a pretty limited oppo
He changed it at half time, and also during 2nd half, and we were by far the better side 2nd half, who had numerous chances - other than our 2 goals - to win it handsomely, but for some very good saves by their keeper
Lincoln time wasting was not punished sufficiently by an awful Ref
Chalk it down as a bad day at the office, but not a disaster
Was 2nd place ‘a thing’ for us - well I dreamed for a bit - but when you stand back and factor in that terrible run we had late last year, then to be where we are is pretty amazing
Let’s put Cambridge to the sword next Saturday, and today can be consigned to tomorrows fish and chip paper
Lincoln did what Lincoln do, no surprises there. We were off it, a disjointed performance. But after hearing NJ's post-match comments he's said he ballsed up and I can live with that. Could turn out to be an important point gained.
On the great occasion that is the UpBeats’ Day, in the shining South London sun, Charlton and Lincoln proved a frustrating affair. With Lloyd Jones still out, Tom McIntyre stepped in again to anchor the backline. But additionally, a Tyreece Campbell sized hole was left in the Charlton attack, which proved too much for the Addicks to overcome in the first half. Though not a direct replacement, Karoy Anderson filled the gap left by the in-form Campbell, but the game seemed to pass him by. Though Thierry Small tried his best to provide a threat down the wings, the opposite side was all at sea and, while threatening on occasion, the Addicks were less than razor sharp going forward. Early on, it was clear that this was going to be a frustrating afternoon.
Lincoln went ahead in the first half through a very good free kick into the near post that received a glancing header that shot past Will Mannion, giving him little chance. Then, somewhat surprisingly, Lincoln doubled their lead through a bit of poor defending to go into halftime two goals up. The Valley was quiet and things looked bleak.
Changes were made in the second half. On 56 minutes, Macauley Gillesphey got us back in it with a sublime shot from six yards. With Charlton swinging the momentum their way, Lincoln clearly wanted the final whistle on 60 minutes as they wasted time and attempted to turn the match into a stop and start snoozefest. Charlton were undeterred and kept pushing for an equaliser. Nathan Jones was not content and the squad and formation changes kept coming. The equaliser came through Greg finding a bit of space on the edge of the box. After a long throw, Lincoln failed to sufficiently clear it and Docherty stepped up with a stunningly left foot volley that came out of no where, travelled through traffic and gave their keeper no chance.
There were more than enough opportunities to win the match late in the second half. Aneke fashioned a great shot that went agonizingly wide. Matty Godden came close with a glancing header that the Lincoln keeper did well to save. And Gillesphey’s free kick was on target and tested the keeper but proved a straightforward save. Kaheim Dixon proved a useful attacking threat and played his role well in the minutes he had.
Charlton 2 Lincoln 2 Over to you.
Just to confirm, it was 1-0 at half time and they scored their second in the second half…
I was watching Karoy during the warm up........ you know, the bit where they're in 2 teams and trying to pass quickly to each other......... I have to say he really impressed me, his control was good, was quick, turned his man a few times and laying it off well...... I was really quite impressed. Now I know it wasn't for real and all that but I do think there's a player in there and one who's much better than we saw in the first half. Driving home I was thinking that these tremendous runs of form like the one we've been on haven't come round too many times in the years I've been a Charlton supporter so I'm going to enjoy it for what it is and hope things can carry on pretty much the way they've been until the end of the season and to the end of the playoffs!

They did indeed because it was down the away end......and I couldn't see it as I had various numpties with their chips & drinks blooming my view as they were all looking for their seats again.
Really does my head in. Week after week people turn up 10 mins late, leave on 40 mins, come back on 50 mins and then leave when the added time board goes up.
I mean, what's the fucking point in going to a game of football if you are going to only watch 80% of it ! I'd understand if it was a festival & you are there all day.....but a game of football lasts about 50 mins per half nowdays.
Like every other Charlton supporter, I was worried about TC’s absence when the team was announced at 2:00pm. With Godden the only striker in the 11, I wondered how we were going to set up. The answer - unfortunately - was to stick Anderson on the left midfield/wing, where he looked like (and, indeed, was) a fish out of water from the outset. I appreciate that Nathan was hardly spoilt for choice, especially given that Chuks can’t start games and Kaheim Dixon isn’t ready, but it illustrated just how little faith the manager has in Ahadme. Whether the latter would have done any better for 45-60 minutes before being replaced by Chuks is a moot point, but sticking Karoy out on the left was a selection and tactical error - albeit one that Nathan mitigated by introducing Chuks at half time.
As for the game, we lacked energy and drive in the first half, as well as confidence. It was almost as if TC’s absence undermined the belief of the entire side. There were some good runs by Thierry Small, including an early shot just wide and a good opportunity blasted over well after a mesmerising run. There was also a fine shot from Josh Edwards but that was about it. We didn’t look comfortable at the back, conceding a lot of corners and our players generally (with the honourable exception of Matty Godden) struggled to find the right weight of pass and control the ball. In contrast, Lincoln looked very competent and comfortable .
The second half started disastrously, with McIntyre rashly stepping out to try and intercept, leaving Collins to easily run past him and finish well for his second goal. As well as McIntyre did on Tuesday, there was always a risk that his lack of game time over the last year would catch up with him and it certainly did today. Nathan Jones introduced Alex Mitchell shortly afterwards, although he wasn’t averse to the odd error, although happily none of them cost us.
To our manager’s credit, he responded by moving Edwards into a more advanced position on the left, introduced Dixon and Chuks and the latter managed to create some chaos. The goal machine that is Macauley Gillesphey got us back in the game and the Doc hit a nice, first time volley for the equaliser after a long throw caused more confusion. There was only one team trying to win the game after that and Chuks and Godden both went close to doing so, although this ultimately has to go down as a point gained in the circumstances.
Lincoln were very efficient until they went 2-0 up, at which point they seemed to abandon trying to play football and just hoofed the ball forward and tried to waste as much time as possible. The ref was an aggravating factor, with his series of lectures prior to corners (all of which were ignored) and his failure to clamp down on repeated time wasting. I also wonder what the hell the fourth official was doing in terms of failing to add time on. To compound matters, the ref was one of the most whistle happy I’ve seen in recent seasons.
It was a chaotic Charlton performance and one where our usual level of control and composure were conspicuous by their absence. We were defensively porous and lacked creativity in attack. Let’s hope that Lloyd Jones and Tyreece Campbell are fit to return very soon. Today illustrated that, like most League 1 teams, our squad is a little thin in terms of quality.
Still, we’d have all taken a point at 0-2, the team showed plenty of character and fight and that point could turn out to be very important at the end of the regular season.

Blimey when was the last time you went to the chippie ?
Shout out to the that infront of me in Row A of the West Lower who kept standing up so I couldn't see. I asked him to sit down and he told me to stand up too, then when I showed him my crutches and told him I couldn't, he got mouthy and told me I wasn't a Charlton fan as I wasn't standing up. What weird and sad behaviour

Sorry to hear you are on crutches mate but, what is a "that"...🙄
A silly thing but the very last thing in the game was a long Edwards throw. I was sat saying to the person next to me " he cannot throw it that far" as our players all were in the middle of the 6 yard box. He threw it, our players were no where near and it was headed clear. It happens every game. When it is your team mate taking the throw, you should be able to stand in the very spot he throws it to. It's bizarre in professional football how often our players get that wrong.

Agreed. Edwards has a longish throw....not a long throw. Normally a nice free header for a savvy defender standing 6 yards ahead of our nearest man.
Was looking forward to a win today, but at 0-2 with 30 minutes to go we turned up and won a point. cant argue with that. We had lost the 3 on the hour, 1 point rescued, could have nicked it. Not many of us were realistically talking play-offs last year, we didn’t lose and on to the next one. COYR
Nothing else to add on the actual game but a good set of collector's item occurrences during it:
Ball hoofed into the upper West Ball coming back into play off the corner flag Throw in going straight out for another throw in 4th official's board malfunctioning
I find it a bit baffling sometimes with how we play Thierry Small. Today was probably a good time to let him swap wings, even for a short time, getting him back on his natural left foot may have opened them up in the first half, and if you did that from the start and have Watson play as the other wing back, nobody is played out of their natural position. Instead we play Anderson in a position totally alien to him, poor bugger.
I'm not saying I feel sorry for Tom McIntyre - that "tackle" would have made Scott Fraser blush - but bloody hell. You sit on the bench since January, and then get thrown in at Mansfield to replace our best defender, you win plaudits from Brownie and MOMs from a lot of fans, your manager says you were "outstanding" , and you respond with an interview praising him to the heavens, and saying you'd run through a brick wall for him. Then in your second game, where your midfield has gone missing in action, you mess up, leading to a crucial second goal, and your manager very publicly holds you responsible by subbing you in favour of a player whose underperformances were the reason you were brought in in January. And the same fans who made you MOM on Tuesday now say you are "not up to it".
I mean, was he that bad in the first half? And what are we going to do if LJ doesn't recover as quickly as we hope?

It was the sort of error that gets you hung out to dry

He clearly stepped over the line…every long throw today did…they don’t blow for it it seems

Anderson was a 2/10 but a lot of that wasn't his fault. Poor sod....completely sold down the river.
On the plus side....well done for coming back and nearly nicking it.
Downside....just shows how much we miss Jones and Campbell. The squad feels thin.

Last week both Wrexham and Wycombe messed up against lowly relegation threatened sides - and could only draw.
This week our turn.
That's football, right?
Only a few games left to play but plenty of twists and turns still to come.
Like Wycombe losing again today!
Really does my head in. Week after week people turn up 10 mins late, leave on 40 mins, come back on 50 mins and then leave when the added time board goes up.

I was tempted to ask him if he's been to Leeds, Port Vale, Morecambe and Doncaster on a Tuesday night but I didn't wanna embarrass him.
Their geezer today had a better throw.
Ball hoofed into the upper West
Ball coming back into play off the corner flag
Throw in going straight out for another throw in
4th official's board malfunctioning
