That legal immunity the supreme court so thoughtfully handed him means Trump can't be guilty of anything he does in office.3 -

Dear fellow mug-punters. I've said it before to those talking the Buy the Dip mantra. Even taking into account today's slide, here is the S&P 500. It's still nearly 5% up over 12 months. Personally I think there's further to fall. The brilliant minds on Wall Street still haven't fully absorbed that their genius turnip has slapped tariffs on a bunch of penguins.
I'm buying the NASDAQ now at circa 17% below what I sold for, S&P around 10% less.1 -

For not only is the S&P 500 down 4% today but $ is sliding too!
Some will want to sit this out and watch, whereas others like myself have partially divested from US funds. I certainly wouldn't advise others, but won't be looking to "buy the dip".
Why? Just feels like an attempt to catch a falling knife! Won't bore people with too many details but the SIPP is only one part of a strategy, and the main advantage is the tax benefits. Making a decent return every year would be great but bigger picture is to build up decent pot so as to top up state pension. So for that reason taking a bigger position in the FTSE.
As posted before, Trump is all over the place... except this is different. With Truss the markets took her out, but no such checks and balances in USA today.
His dumb AF routine with Putin & Zelenskyy has made zero difference to the conflict but has spelt out what the EU, Norway and UK need to do on defence. No idea what the final tariffs will raise but the point some note is that's going straight on to US inflation which will hit his base plus US business more than anybody.
And then there's the 1,000 people picked up by ICE, many of whom are being supported without due process.
Interesting times as they say!1 -
Plenty of time left to go yet1

He is so deluded it's embarrassing- his supporters are just part of a cult.

Their supporters won't tolerate criticism, and claim victim status when their leaders are disbarred. But underneath this veneer, there's real data and real lives evolving... let's see how things evolve here under Labour, in Europe, USA and Canada.
NHS waiting lists are down by 35,000 a month and another BoE rate cut would really help business and mortgage payments... we absolutely need to defeat this scurge on democracy over here. No idea how things play out in USA.4 -

Have a Capital Gains Tax question that I’m hoping someone on here might be able to help with. Have sold some shares, but for reasons I won’t bore you with, I had to do the sale via post. The sale of these shares was done in March, but the cheque for the sale arrived to me in April. For purposes of CGT, which financial year would these go towards, this or last year?0

It's the date of the sale that counts. Tax year ends 5th April, so TelMc32 is quite right.3

At least some people live there, rather than just penguins!BBC News:
Some Canadians may be angry about Trump's policy, but others are finding it amusing.
One of the targets of Trump’s tariffs is Norfolk Island – a tiny Australian territory with about 2,200 residents.
The island’s been hit with a 29% tariff.
Locals say the economy relies on tourism and they don’t export anything to the US – so the tariff has become something of a running joke.
“Everyone's laughing about it,” Gye Duncan, a former resident, tells Reuters news agency. “They're either laughing about it or confused why because there's no real reason, or no logical reason why he (Trump) would do that.”
People on the island are hoping the sudden international attention will give them a much-needed publicity boost and attract more visitors to the rugged volcanic island in the southern Pacific.

Thanks both, I wrongly thought new tax year had already started, didn’t realise it was 5 April and not 1 April.1

Correct. The Tariff Act of 1930 was designed to reduce the effects of the depression but in fact exacerbated it because other nations (as now) retaliated with their own tariffs and US exports plummeted.0 -
FTSE down another 4% today, largely in response to China retaliating with like for like 34% tariff on all US imports.I am so pleased I'm almost exclusively in cash now - must be a nightmare for pension funds.5
