  • "Each half will last 15 minutes", sounds like us this season...🤔
  • Not sure about the novelty rules at the end, but I'm convinced that 5 or 6-a-side is the right format for Olympic football.  Stops it being automatically a 2nd-best event, replicates a game many play recreationally, etc.

Used to enjoy our participation in the Evening Standard 5-a-sides back in the day

  • @Chizz me and my son were watching something really similar on YouTube yesterday where some streamer was playing in a ronaldinho Vs kaka game in the US somewhere. It looked really good and my exact words were "if this comes to England, we're going"! Loads of goals, tekkers galore and a few legends on display.

Can’t believe your son would prefer that over NJs route one.

Basically exactly like watching Charlton then.
  • I can't get past the name. It sounds like a porn star ranking to me.
  • I've watched 5 a side and futsal on YouTube, and didn't find it particularly attractive to watch on a monitor/tv (great to play though).

Something about 11 a side games, with the ball trajectories, the grass, the mixture of fast and slow phases, sprints, long passes, etc.

Different sport, I guess. I'll give it a chance, but the novelty will probably wear off quite quickly for me.

Just seems like a modern version of Masters Football.
  • Drafts are in. A few names I recognise 👀

One team includes Michael Hector who has just signed for Dagenham and Redbridge but will still apparently be participating in this.
  • Serious comedown for Jordan Ibe, he was in the PL 5 years ago.
  • Few names I recognise there both from the EFL and from watching non league. I wonder how players have worked this with being under contract elsewhere.
  • £400 also does not seem worth the hassle either for players who have had champ and PL careers.  Maybe I don’t value money enough?

  • Former Charlton youth player is in the mix as well.

EFL players in general I think.
  • Just read up on it - I'm surprised the rules don't stipulate that all teams have to wear a variation of a Palace shirt, as its the sort of w*nk they would come up with.

Means a lot to part time players who are the majority of players who were picked for this circus.

  • Fair enough... The risk (injury, embarassment) vs reward (£400) does not compute for me, even if someone is earning 40-50k per annum.  I am probably out of touch

    You say that...

  • harmless fun, kids will love it - my boy does and fancies going one night, for £15 a ticket it seems decent value and I might take him along

  • I felt very old when I watched it due to the commentary team yelping, hollering, screaming and mumbling.

Whatever happened to the time when training was given, commentators spoke received English and everything was orderly, correct and proper?

  • How much has Shearer been paid to get involved in this ''entertainment' on a night Newcastle are cruising to victory over Leicester.

Got paid by doing it Lineker and Richards
  • How much are they paying the managers?

Obviously some of them i've never heard of, but surely the likes of John Terry, Luis Figo, Lineker, Shearer or even Maya Jama are not doing this cheaply.
