    'not as physically dynamic as Dobson' honestly? Dobson has more flair, weirdly, but Coventry more than almost any player I can think of for us just charges around the pitch for the entire game without seeming to tire, it's freak stuff

    Dobson has a better name. Sounds better, doesn't alliterate mind but wasn't bombed to shit in the second world war and no gets sent to Dobbo when the world is fed up of them.

    Dobson always looked to play forward. Pre-Crawley, Coventry would pass back for a hoof. Haven't seen too many recent games but it seems his game plan has changed for the better.

    Can he make interceptions at a higher level against better passers and dribblers? He doesn't tackle much.

    When you say his game plan?

    I suspect he was following tactical instruction from the man who comes up with the game plans and has fortunately altered those much for the better!

    IMO it was clear to me even when he was getting pelters early season for being ineffective that Coventry is a very good player and he was doing his job well, intercepting, winning and retaining possession in the way he was instructed. 

    Let’s hope he stays fit and continues to perform for the rest of the season - and into the next!

    Dobson edges it on the ‘sticks to you like shit to a blanket’ factor, ie a ball winner/ destroyer mowing his opponents down - Coventry is a superior player in all other respects - he’s become one of our key men

    My stats say 100 tackles in 35 matches as a CDM. Less than three a game. Doesn't suggest he is a terrier.

    If he is second in the stats, it shows how shit this league is 
    This is just further proof that you know absolutely sod all about football. A CDM playing for a club in the top 6, with the 2nd highest tackle rate in the league doesn't impress you? Then you don't know what you're looking at. Combine that with being in the top 10 for interceptions as well (no other player features in the top 10 on both lists) and the fact that he's had to play "within himself" for the past few weeks to avoid a 10th yellow card, it's been an outstanding display of composed defensive work from the lad.

    Dobson is 20th and 88th on those lists btw.


    Seem to remember Dobson was high on that list when he was with us.  As was McGrandles before he joined.

    Dobson would have been high on the list with us because he was in a worse team, down near the bottom of the table, and he was the main destroyer in the side, usually covering ground and lunging into tackles when we lost the ball in the middle of the park over and over again

Even though he is now generally rated I think he goes a little under appreciated. I certainly wouldn’t swap him back for Dobson now. 
    Dobson played in dreadful teams for 3 years for us and was the best player for many of those games .  Coventry is doing well in a good side 
    Completely ignores that fact that Coventry is a huge part of what makes it a good side. Would the side playing this way be as good with Dobson playing in Coventry's role? Probably not
    Dobson probably wouldn't look as impressive either - not a dig at his ability but what actually made him stand out where his energy levels and spectacular tackling.

    The first part is just standard expectations of an NJ player/side so he wouldn't be exceptional there, and the pressure/possession style would mean that we wouldn't actually need someone to be flying into tackles.

    I think Dobson would definitely do well in the current side don't get me wrong but even in the last few months he was here you could see Jones had him playing a different way to his usual midfield destroyer role.

    Interesting that Conor was once again in the Standby squad... I know we lost on Saturday, but thank god he wasn't needed for Ireland, as we wouldn't have got the game called off, even if we had two other call-ups already - Add this reason to the endless others, for getting back into the Championship.

    Dobson scored 6 for us in 3 seasons, Coventry has 1 in 1 & a half seasons (ish). Neither are prolific and they aren’t expected to be

    Not really. He's there to give other players security and service to score goals, not provide them himself, and if he's even in a position to score then it means he's well out of his "normal" position.

    Rewatching the goals from Saturday and he really stood out on the build up to the third.

    The way he won back possession in the middle of the pitch from one midfielder and then instantly took the other two out of the game with a deft reverse ball to Doc was immense.
