And if we lose a couple of strikers, Ahadme will be on the bench ahead of Casey and Dixon. The U21s aren't just about bringing through youngsters, but also giving 1st team players some game time this season.LargeAddick said:
What has fairness got to do with it? Gas is in the first team squad every match, Casey and Dixon are not. Gas could do with a game as opposed to just training.fenaddick said:He still travels with the squad and is often the spare man. If you play him for the U21s either Casey or Dixon have to miss out which doesn't seem fair at all2 -
Maybe our new head of medical has the bright idea that different players require different things to stay fit. What works for Alex Mitchell might not be best for Gassan Ahadme.

He's going to score the winner, in the play-off final!

It's not so about general fitness, as "match fitness" and sharpness. Which you only get by playing games.Callumcafc said:Maybe our new head of medical has the bright idea that different players require different things to stay fit. What works for Alex Mitchell might not be best for Gassan Ahadme.

For one game?! No he won'tfenaddick said:
Well he would potentially hinder the development of two of our most exciting academy prospects. I can see the benefits either wayLargeAddick said:

I've really not been impressed with Chuks of late. He looks well off it and as we all know, he's unlikely to get the minutes to maybe get him up to speed.AndyG said:I can’t see him even making the bench unless we have a good few injuries. Unfortunately I think he will be shipped out at a loss hoping we didn’t pay anything like what was reported
The years of physical breakdowns really look to have caught up with him. Should think Gassan has a fair chance of getting back in2 -

Chuks got an indirect assist on Saturday when he came on and held the ball up with Sean Clare literally bouncing off him and the move the formed off that hold up play led to the corner that we equalised from. I agree he isn't having quite the same impact he once did, he's still a strength monster though and wins headers. If that is what we are looking to add late in a game he does it better than Miles and certainly better than Ahadme. Miles gives more finesse and mobility and is more likely to get a goal, but I'm not sure Ahadme even offers any of those thing any more so than Chuks does.carly burn said:

Although I dont rate the bloke he must be a better option than Chuks at the moment.1 -

Translated that he is surplus to requirements.fenaddick said:He still travels with the squad and is often the spare man. If you play him for the U21s either Casey or Dixon have to miss out which doesn't seem fair at all0 -
Kanu, Mitchell, Watson and McIntyre all played for our u21s against Millwall a couple of weeks ago, so it’s definitely an option. They played yesterday, have games on Friday and Tuesday coming up, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two first team players get some minutes in either match.

Exactly this. We want different options, Ahadme is a shit version of Leaburn, Aneke offers something different and can still contribute like he did on SaturdayExiled_Addick said:

Ahadme just wasn't good enough. Couldn't score, could hold the ball up and hardly won a header. Only thing he was good at was pressing. Any time he played, we looked like we weren't going to score.

I don't think he really got anywhere with the pressing though did he? He tries and while he may be quicker than Chuks he's still slow so defenders don't have to worry much.I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Ahadme just wasn't good enough. I am not trying to make out like he has been good because he hasn't. But he was good for Cambridge last season, so there is definitely a player in there.I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Ahadme just wasn't good enough. Before Ahadme is written off it might be worth looking at the TC, Gillesphy and Nathan Jones threads.
All three were being slated and written off as either mad, bad or surplus to requirements.
Now they are great guys in the eyes of many of the same posters.
Gassan may never make that leap, maybe the team has moved on and up and he's not good enough or maybe he will, who knows, but beware more premature evaluation.
One other thing to throw in, based on no information at all so just wild speculation, is whether the fee payable to Ipswich is based in part on appearances so picking him would cost us extra money?32 -

Gillesphey looked league two at best for a long time, now he's a critical part of the team.SELR_addicks said:Personally I've not seen someone as bad as Ahadme look, come good.0 -
The only thing i'd potentially offer in defence of Ahadme is that he might do better in a side that is now on top in games, playing well and winning. Not many of our team looked good pre-Christmas, so it's maybe a bit harsh to completely judge him based on how the whole team looked.
On the flip side of that is you could equally argue that our turnaround in from has mainly coincided with him not playing.9 -
I think he would definitely do better in this team, as most of our players look better. We actually get crosses into the box and win the knock downs from long balls forward. Unless we get two injuries up front I don't think we'll see him this season but I would back him to do better and knock in a couple of goals2

I agree with your sentiment Chris but Gillesphey never looked anywhere near as bad as Ahadme has. He’s looked Ryman league standard.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

He did at the start. In the home game against Bolton he was a big part of us capitalising on their defence passing out by closing passing corridors and setting traps. His pressing dipped with his confidence unfortunatelyTalal said:

Yeah i don't disagree and we all know he's not been anywhere near good enough. But i'd argue that the way we played before Christmas was terrible and the strikers got very little service. He also did score a few goals in this league last year so he's surely not completely useless.hmmoore said:

Good job it’s not based on goals, we could go bankrupt.Henry Irving said:

Ahadmes best attributes are winning headers and holding up the ball on long clearances. Chuks best attribute is using his strength to score a goal out of nowhere. For that reason if we need a goal late, I would rather Chuks on the bench even at what could be his final year as a professional/declining physical abilities. If we want to hold onto the lead, stick with leaburn and more mobile midfielders.I don’t really blame Ahadme. It hasn’t worked out for him this year but he clearly gives an effort when he plays. I just don’t think his style of play works well in our system0

I think we can safely trust NJ to choose the best option from Aneke, Ahadme and Kanu.2

If he was lucky enough to nab a spot on the bench, what kind of scenario would we or NJ be looking at him to come off the bench. Orient away when we are 1-0 down, would we be shouting to get Gas on or last night being 1-0 up? Or do we look to Leaburn, DK or Chuks instead.

I like your use of the present tense “is”! Hoping we can see some of that impact again soon.Bostonaddick said:Ahadmes best attributes are winning headers and holding up the ball on long clearances. I'd like to see him given a chance, it's unlikely he dislodges TC or Godden, but he has to offer more than Chuks, at the very least he can close down better.
He's got a header on him, and we are getting balls in the box now, he may do better in this team now it's settled and there's less pressure on his shoulders.3 -
Jones either does not rate him or has had a bust up with him.Ahadme seems to be completely bombed from the squad.1
