Lifers' Cancer Updates - Some hopeful news from Palarsehater (p75)

PH it sounds as though they’ve got a comprehensive plan in place. You hear about waiting lists etc but all is sorted out for your Mum, which is good.Do take care of yourself. Having spent much time with my Dad in various hospitals when he was ill I know how knackering it can be. I used to try and put on a brave/positive face for him and come away drained. So take time for yourself too. Xx5

wow Malc you've got more bits broken than Derek Ufton:) keep fighting5

Best wishes to Redmidland, PH's mum and Peter_G in your respective journeys.
Love to you all.6 -
Yes indeed @Redmidland, your current run of form is not unlike Charlton at the back end of ‘24. Let’s hope you can get a similar turnaround to the Addicks.
I had my cancerous kidney removed yesterday. A three hour op here at King’s and I felt absolutely awful after it, but thanks to some powerful analgaesics, breathing exercises and getting the waterworks going again, they say I can possibly go home later today!
They have sent the kidney to the lab to see if they got all of the tumour and will check the margins of the kidney & tumour. I will report back here at King’s as an outpatient in a couple of weeks for the results.
Compared to others on here, I may have got off lightly, but I don’t want to sound smug, nor indeed “to count my chickens”.
Very best wishes to you @Redmidland, @palarsehater and everyone else battling cancer.
And very well done to @Tracey for what you’re doing for the Barry Kilby prostate campaign. I took the test last season and got a green light, but the screenings have shown up several folks who needed a follow up and treatment. Like kidney cancer, there is no national screening programme for prostate cancer. I’m not advocating that there should be one for kidneys as I don’t think it’s so easily detectable as prostate. I hope The Club’s testing campaign for the Huddersfield game is fully subscribed.19 -

An update on my condition following my radical nephrectomy (kidney removal) on 12th Feb.
I had a follow up consultation with my surgeon at King’s on Tuesday, and he confirmed that the operation was a success and that the carcinoma was limited to the kidney, with no indication of invasion to the lymphatic or blood vessels. They considered whether I might need preventative immunotherapy but have decided that I am not a candidate for it but will be monitored regularly with a CT scan in 4 months.
This is everything I could have wished for.
In the last year cancer has taken my lovely lady from me and one of my kidneys, but I feel I have a new lease of life with this latest news. I am still recovering from the op and tire easily, but I managed to get to The Valley for the Exeter drubbing and that itself was a tonic.
Best wishes to all of you undergoing treatment. My heart goes out to you all. Finally, I have to pay tribute to the magnificent NHS. My stay in King’s was as good and as brief as it could have been. My surgeon and the nursing staff were wonderful.47 -
That's the best news, PG.
You've certainly been through the mill in the past year but it is wonderful to hear your positivity and determination to live your life to the full.
Big hug coming your way and 3 points from the lads on Saturday would be the icing on the cake. x1 -

Big day for me today, I've not said anything, but last weekend my health took a turn for the worse and I ended up back in hospital, just 4 days after being discharged!! I was in excruciating pain and unable to stand, or walk.
I was readmitted and been in an Emergency Assessment ward ever since.
After tests, scans, xrays, urine and blood exams, I've been diagnosed with 'septic gout' and 2 UTI's.
Today, with help of nurses, Dr's and physios I'm going to try and stand, if successful it'll be trying to walk!
I can only hope and pray I can do these 2 simple things, as I'm unable to have my final sessions of chemo, until the 3 infections have gone (along with the catheter!!)
Live, Love, Laugh and Be Happy xx10 -
I'm so sorry you are suffering so much @Redmidland. Best wishes for getting these infections cleared up soon so that you start your next Chemo. SISS2
