Much too early to be writing Gassan off in my opinion.27

I agree. He might never be up to the standard we need, but we signed him based on his Cambridge appearances and with the belief we could develop him further - I’m sure we haven’t seen the best of him.LargeAddick said:Much too early to be writing Gassan off in my opinion.
Look how much higher Godden is now rated. When we were playing route one he was seen as a goal scorer who offered little outside the box. Now we’re playing better football and winning games he’s being praised for his intelligence and link up play. Any striker is likely to look better in the current team vs the style we played a few months ago.20 -
He didn't go out on loan in case Leaburn or Aneke or both get injured (sensible) but it can't be doing him any good to be 3rd choice number 9 who doesn't make the bench1

Only a fool wouldn't be open to that. Lloyd Jones didn't look good when he first started playing for us. Coventry was pretty rubbish for large parts of last season but is now also doing a great job. The trouble is, they were both a regular part of the first team. And if they came out, it wasn't for long. It's concerning if Gassan isn't even making the squad. I think he's started three league games since November. That makes me worry that the club haven't got the player they thought they were getting.Scoham said:

Whose writing him off, from what I have seen of him he is more suited to Blackpool Beach.LargeAddick said:Much too early to be writing Gassan off in my opinion.2 -
This is a hard one as i agree its still early to fully write him off and we was collectively playing badly but in a player you look for their positives and what they can bring individually and as a team and so far i cant see anything that says he will make it here or at the level we want to be at in this league or above
as people say his control, lack of strength and pace aswell as seemingly being unable to show any aggression with using his body to hold off players is shocking and he isnt exactly young like a campbell who has grown and improved
if we do somehow manage to get up this year no way is he good enough
If we stay down another year even then do we want him in a side trying to push for promotion
I think a loan would of been perfect in jan tbh1 -

Godden had been playing for a decent Coventry side for 5 seasons, 4 in the Championship. He had the track record to show he was a decent player, whereas Ahadme has had one reasonable L1 season with Cambridge.Scoham said:

He might come good. Or he might be another one season wonder like Nicky Ajose.0 -

I agree, I’m not saying I’m confident Ahadme will do well for us.killerandflash said:

Godden was a different risk, we’ve signed plenty of older players over the years whose legs and/or desire had gone. Fortunately Jones has judged it well with Godden and others such as Berry and Docherty contributing and keeping their places in the side.0 -

He was our marquee signing in the summer and we are 30 games in. Don’t tell me he’s another good squad player who might have a role to playLargeAddick said:Much too early to be writing Gassan off in my opinion.1 -

A good decision by the club.......not.
May all comps = 11 goals

- Thought he got bullied all game, and his goal masked a poor performance. Don't rate him one bit, in a back 5 or 4. Fair play to Plymouth getting promoted with him, must have had some players around him.
 - But all you have to do is look at his career, who he’s played for and the level and it’ll tell you he’s not a very good player. He’s slow, he’s weak, and apparently technically good but I haven’t seen it.
 - Should not be near the first team.
 - An English Miguel Llera, he is pony
No, not comments on Ahadme but about Gillesphey from October 2024. Two different players but it shows how opinions on players shift. Players that were deemed not good enough become decent and often in the eyes of the same poster.

The thing is though, if we've seen anything this season it's that players can suddenly go from looking like they can't kick a ball straight to looking better than we'd ever hoped. You're right to use Campbell as an example but I think it's one of confidence not youth. Aside from the fact although he's older Ahadme is still a young player in terms of his development through games, TC used to get dog's abuse on here and under Appleton he drained away until he was barely National League level. All it took for him to look like himself again was Jones coming in and bringing him on at the end of a few games. Reborn. Dobson looked like he could barely trap a ball and struggled to find a man 5 yards away from him at the start; all it took after that was some time to settle at a new club, a change in setup and he was spraying passes round and becoming a fan favourite. Docherty this season has gone from a shadow of a footballer to captain fantastic.CharltontillidieCOYR said:This is a hard one as i agree its still early to fully write him off and we was collectively playing badly but in a player you look for their positives and what they can bring individually and as a team and so far i cant see anything that says he will make it here or at the level we want to be at in this league or above

Ahadme started off in a team that was really struggling to get anything moving and in the toughest spot, which is as a new striker coming in after a fan favourite had left, getting the ball lumped at his head with nowhere to go. I remember his first game and he won headers, harried defenders and looked to make things happen even if they didn't always come off. We were static from the start but you could see there was more to come, and then we got worse and worse. He got worse with it and you could see him go from hopeful to empty. I understand why he's not playing right now even if fit because Leaburn, Godden and TC have all offered more so far, but I do wonder how much better he would look in this line up having a bit of space to win headers and getting the ball to feet where he looks far more comfortable. He's been so unfortunate in that he was first choice when we were at our worst and now the uptick is so strong there's no argument to make a change. I think there's something there, it's just a question of whether we'll ever see it now11 -

May will get a hat trick Saturday to close the gap 😁😁Callumcafc said:

I can’t see him getting much use this season unless we have injuries (so probably will). I think a loan last month would have been ideal, but even so I think some time out of the team could do him some good
Pre-season this summer is potentially make or break for him here. Unless we are in the championship, as then I think we will definitely be getting him out on loan1 -
The funny thing is now as well apparently a fair bit of his fee is in a promotion payment, so if we go up using the current lineup but he doesn't contribute any more than he already has he will become a much more expensive signing and will have to show something a level up, which seems unlikely. It would be very Charlton to have the joy of promotion but also the frustration of knowing it also just cost us a few hundred thousand quid. Best case scenario is he comes in and starts playing well AND we go up0

Unless his fee is based on a certain number of appearances + promotion? I would imagine so.Garrymanilow said:The funny thing is now as well apparently a fair bit of his fee is in a promotion payment, so if we go up using the current lineup but he doesn't contribute any more than he already has he will become a much more expensive signing and will have to show something a level up, which seems unlikely. Anyone know what's happened to him? Jones keeps saying he has a fully fit squad but no sight or word of Ahadme at all. I would have thought he would at least be getting a game with the under 21s to keep up his fitness?3

Was wondering that too. Mitchell played for the U21's today, you'd have thought one of Kanu or Ahadme would have done too.crookesoter said:Anyone know what's happened to him? A bit too much movement required for that role...soapy_jones said:

He still travels with the squad and is often the spare man. If you play him for the U21s either Casey or Dixon have to miss out which doesn't seem fair at all6

He's training every day but is obviously last in the pecking order. I personally doubt he will ever play many games for us.crookester said:Anyone know what's happened to him? I'd be tempted to have him on the bench ahead of Chuks for a couple of games13
 -

What has fairness got to do with it? Gas is in the first team squad every match, Casey and Dixon are not. Gas could do with a game as opposed to just training.fenaddick said:He still travels with the squad and is often the spare man. I can’t see him even making the bench unless we have a good few injuries. Unfortunately I think he will be shipped out at a loss hoping we didn’t pay anything like what was reported0

Well he would potentially hinder the development of two of our most exciting academy prospects. I can see the benefits either wayLargeAddick said:
