Players that came and disappointed after looking like a decent signing not by injury...

  • Carlton Cole, then went back to Chelsea and scored a great goal (as far as i remember) against us.
  • Chris Eagles. Genuinely thought he was top class, appears that years of being a journeyman found him out.

Chris Eagles had one of the best videos of all his goals. Unfortunately down the covered end from close range he headed over the bar !
  • Nicky Ajose
  • Australian international Rhys Williams.
  • There’s been so many…..
  • Lapado last season was a disaster
  • A couple of Bs....

    Bagheri

    Blomqvist

I'm not having Peakey Rocket on that or any other 'disappointment' list.

Can’t allow Andy Jones or Andy Peake on this thread - both put a shift in, against the odds, away from our home, part of a team which kept us up despite incredible circumstances - I’m very proud that I was there for the Shithurst years
They were a disappointment though. I thought Peaky would be a goalscoring attacking midfielder instead we had a hardworking dependable, but one paced player who mostly passed sidewards and couldn't shoot for toffee ("the search for Peakys Rocket goes on..".) Andy Jones cost us a lot of money (when we didn't have any), as a top scorer for Wales and Port Vale. At the time it looked like a real coup when we signed him ahead of Man U and I hoped he would really move us forward. He tried hard, had his moments and I liked him, but ultimately he was only an average striker, who more often than not was dropped for a non scoring Leaburn-  and Lennie actually tried to sell him for less than half what we paid for him.

Both disappointed me precisely by just putting a shift in, when I thought we were getting much more than that. And who are you to not allow that? you may disagree, Im sure I would not agree with all your choices but everyone may have their opinion on who ultimately failed to live up to expectations.

Scored a rocket at Ipswich in a 4-4 draw.

I think you are being very harsh here, especially on Peake. Whilst he wasn’t anywhere as near as good as someone like Parker, he certainly justified what we paid for him. He was an integral part in keeping us in the top division at a time when we didn’t have much money and were playing in front of tiny crowds on somebody else’s ground. I think he cost  75,000. Money well spent.

Jones was ultimately bit of a failure, but he was always going to be a bit of a gamble. Jim Melrose was leaving and we badly needed to augment our attack. He was fairly young and had scored freely in the 3rd division. Other 1st division clubs  were looking at him. It didn’t come off but he scored 15 goals in 66 games. We have had a lot worse before and since.

  • Charlie Kirk really stands out as one of our more recent disappointments, we were linked with him for ages and he looked class for Crewe. He quite publicly had some tragic off field issues, but I don't think I've ever seen a player who played as many games as he did, give so little on the pitch. The lack of application was consistently an embarrassment
  • Jeffers. WTF happened?

Going by the comments from Huddersfield fans elsewhere, this season doesnt sound any better for him. Fair play to the wizardry that Rotherham and Ipswich must have conjured up to find some kind of talent in him!!

  • Australian international Rhys Williams.
Blimey, was he really an international? The way he played for us, I'd be surprised if he was good enough to play for his local pub team. In fact, he'd probably get overlooked in favour of the old sot who sits in the corner all day and needs a walking stick just to get to the lavs.
  • Ronnie Schwartz
  • Erhun Oztumer
  • Chris Gunter. His only achievement was to make Adam Matthews look like he cared.
  • Marcus Maddison
  • Alan Campbell.

    First one was great

  • Alex Gilbey was one for me. Seemed like exactly the kind of player we'd been missing, a skilful centre mid to drive the ball forward and get some assists and goals. He'd been MK Dons' player of the year twice, got a good assist on his first game of the season and looked the part, looked crap in his next game against Doncaster and barely looked good again. The bloke was a footballing coward; if the team was playing well he might turn up, if it was a tough game though he wouldn't drag you through, he'd drag you down.

I was disappointed with Jack Payne too. Good pedigree and seemingly a victim of Huddersfield's rise being too fast, but he could never hold down a place or influence a game enough. Managed a surprisingly respectable 7 goals and 7 assists in his first season but we needed him to run games and he couldn't.

He also scored more headed goals than Stockley that season!

    Which is madness!
