I’m booked in. I’m so grateful for the availability of these tests given that I am deemed high risk (family history) with the Barry Kilby charity recommending an annual check. Thank you Tracey and all involved in making this possible.

Having trouble booking in. It keeps asking for valid NHS number. I've done this, checked the number with the NHS site and cut and pasted the answer but still keeps asking me to confirm. Where am I going wrong? Advice please.

Problem solved - system glitch. Contacted by the trust and did it over the phone.

I’m in, but didn’t put my nhs number in?

Definitely worth doing, getting into the habit of doing each year, if you are over 50, early detection is key, thanks again, Tracey.

All booked again - well done the club (and Tracey)

    @better red than dead
I don't think you actually need to put your NHS number in, on mine it said 'optional'

  • Booked for first time as 50 in April. Fantastic of club to do this,  I asked my GP as I ignorantly thought I could have one on nhs. Nervous but got to do it.

You should have had no trouble being referred to the NHS. I don’t know why some Doctors are so difficult. Anyway well done on getting booked in.

Thanks for the annual reminder @Tracey, I look forward to another discussion with my Dr’s receptionist as if I think I need a test 🤷‍♂️
I’ve learnt now and my standard answer is…..
”You send my wife a letter saying she is due a smear test, yet I need to ask and justify a PSA” 🤷‍♂️

The number of slots remaining (186) does not equate to the time slots available to book (17)

Guy who sits next to me did the last one, was found positive and has just finished his treatment. As a consequence, I've booked myself on this one. So glad he chose to share his experience with me.
  • I'm a France-based Addick. After seeing on CATV game in 2023 talking about PSA testing I said to my partner I'd probably do that if I was still in London. Without my knowledge she slipped in a PSA test in a routine blood test. Despite no symptoms, the score was high and that started a process through last year after a cancer diagnosis.

It hasn't been plain sailing - after surgery in May I still had to have a course of radiotherapy in Nov/Dec and now pills and injections to minimise recurrance risk. But the point is I'm getting treatment because it was caught in time and can still expect an all-clear (with monitoring). Others, like Sir Chris Hoy, are not so fortunate - and if you are in a younger age group the cancer tends to be more aggresssive, making it vital to detect it early. Just do the test.

Glad they caught it early and you are now getting the treatment needed. Hope all goes well.

    Insightful first post too.

Best of luck moving forward Nick, I too had surgery to remove mine in May 24 following a positive diagnosis, however I am clear after nine months with regular blood tests.

Get the test done guys, like Nick above I had no symptoms, a random blood test for another issue picked it up

  • Front page of tomorrow’s Times…prostrate now the most common cancer.

And it looks like there’s now a new choice if you want to detect it early, you can now wait for this government to get its arse in gear to set up a national screening programme instead of talking to your GP to sort out a test or simply booking a test yourself at Charlton where you can then have a pint or two afterwards before watching the game.

All slots now open for booking. Booked mine and my sons.
  • Booked mine last week. Cost charged was £15. Although I know I can get this done through my doctor I’ve booked this through the Charlton initiative for the last couple of years. My results have been on the high side of normal with each test creeping upwards. I did query my last reading with my doctor (5.5) & he didn’t seem bothered & said it was age related but I like to keep an eye on it just in case it jumps very high & I will check the next reading with him. Bearing in mind my old Dad did have prostate cancer and  lived to a reasonable age at 83 but my attitude is try & stop the problem before it starts !

£15 well spent. I like that you get your results within 24hours, where as on the NHS it can upto 2weeks
