So there's a genuine thought process that Jones needs to splunk thousands a week on a few mates so he's happy at work?
I'm sorry but that's nonsense. Never in a million years should either of these two be getting offered contracts.
He's got a few Luton mates stuck with us, and I'm sure he's on talking terms with the team and tea lady by now, let's offer contracts to people who can actually get us 3 points. Not jobs for mates.
I'd rather us give what we're offering those 2 all to Lloyd Jones.
Except if the wages were given to LJ, they count towards SCMP.
I don’t speculate on senior players terms & conditions. Why? Too many variables.
If I gave a senior contract to 15 different people to examine there Is every likelihood we would see 15 different answers in terms of the scale of remuneration involved. The simple answer is I don’t know and neither do any of you.
Still if it suits your agenda make it up anyway. Then you can slag off Jones for employing his mates. Why? Is that what you would do?
Employing mates? How many coaches did Jones bring in? Hart? To help avoid relegation? Seems a good deal.
So why can’t Jones instead of preferred coaching staff choose a couple of senior pros to do his coaching on the training pitch and on occasion match days. Hell we have just secured another “transition” coach - how many 3 points is he going to win you?
I seem to recall Powell bringing in Cort, Euell and Hughes to establish exactly the same professional benchmarks.
My challenge is this flight of fantasy you think you can bring in 2 players able improve on the current first team shirt holders on the same terms & conditions as Potts & Hylton. If it is not to be the same terms where have you any evidence SE7 has the appetite to find the hitherto unseen funds to make such recruitment happen.
Methvens’ direction of travel appears to be very different.
You have every right to challenge any contract. I have no axe to grind. It comes with the territory but if winning 3 points is your recruitment criteria I suggest there are far bigger issues to consider than 2 peripheral playing contracts.

As coaches, they do not.
But do they on the current player/coach contracts that they're currently on? Is Potts even on a hybrid contract?
They are both said to be player/coaches, so yes, he is.
Also it was the way that some team got around have Wayne Rooney on their books a couple of years ago, as "coach" doesn't count towards SCMP.
Do you have insider knowledge to make you so sure? Hylton was announced as a player/coach but not seen that confirmed by the club for Potts
The big question to me is why has Potts hardly played? He was regularly on the bench in September, and started one game, but then vanished from the 18, other than one bench appearance in the FA Cup and one game in the EFL Trophy in December.
Has he struggled to get and stay fit, in which case giving him another 6 months seems a complete waste of money. Alternatively, if he is genuinely behind Gillesphey (and indeed REG) in the CB pecking order, then he's not good enough, as we need someone better than them.
I think too many view this as a black and white situation when there are so many different variables at play, and most of them are not seen as they’re completed at Sparrows Lane.
As far as I am aware, Potts is a player and Hylton is a player/coach. There’s nothing to say otherwise.
The benefit of having Hylton as a player/coach is that he is amongst the squad far more than what any of the coaches would be. He’s able to set the tone and culture and help the younger players like Miles from within rather than from the outside. That’s a delicate role and skill to get right as you’ve got to be seen as a team mate but also as a member of the staff who want to help improve. Sometimes coaching isn’t even on the training pitch, it’s the conversations Hylton would have within the changing room with the younger players that usual ‘coaches’ just wouldn’t have.
It is this which is why I see Hylton definitely staying on until the end of the season where they’ll assess and he’ll probably become a full-time member of the coaching set up. This is an important transition for him as well as for us. It’s almost 1 year since NJ took charge and by having people he’s worked with to help create the direction of travel he needs to when building a project in and around the place, it needs to be understood that this plays into a bigger picture.
We’ve been told many times to be patient and he will build something and take us forward. He can’t do that on his own, no one can. So whilst Hart has retired to spend more time with family, and other coaches are probably settled in work themselves, this “hybrid” role as such that people have called it is probably the next best opportunity available and if it works and brings more out of the attackers the longer the season goes on, that can only be a positive thing.
Potts is a different story. His pedigree says he should be in the team over Gillesphey. He has though had a long time out injured or without proper football and at his age, it could be more challenging to get back to those levels. If he is here as a player to challenge and get into the team, which I expect he is unlike Hylton as NJ has said only about Hylton never coming in to play 90, 90, 90 etc. then you would hope and expect more from him. If there is another player available who will challenge the back line and first team more than Potts, they should be considered and brought in if possible. However, if he is able to play a part between now and the end of the season, you would hope he has the ability to perform to the standard required.
Although we most definitely can improve defensively, especially at left centre back and bringing in cover/competition for Ramsay, with 10 league clean sheets in 23 games, it’s not an area of huge concern. If, and it’s an important if, we manage to keep Jones and fit for the remainder of the season, and with Ramsay coming back shortly, I am not too worried and would anticipate we finish the season with around 20/21/22 clean sheets.
It’s up top where we need to be putting the ball in the back of the next far more than we have so far, despite in recent games/weeks where things are really showing signs of clicking. The ruthlessness to win games and go on the run we need is a bigger area that needs addressing and is what I am anticipating that we do this window by bringing in an attacking midfielder and potentially a wide player with pace. And if possible, moving on Watson and signing a right wing back too.
In the words of Roy Keane “does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song? Does he do quizzes at night?”
There is absolutely no footballing reason to extend his contract - he’s played less minutes than Chuks ffs.
Potts and Hylton combined have played less minutes than Chuks.
Chuks has played 245 minutes. Potts has played 221 and Hylton has played 103.
League minutes. No one cares about the two bob trophy minutes.
In this instance I do. Our U21 strikers had injuries so a first teamer would have had to play and Potts was part of helping a young Z Mitchell against Cambridge. Both important roles in the grand scheme of things even if the result doesn't matter
In my view if Potts is allowed to draw a wage at this club then Nathan Jones, who has openly declared that the squad needs trimming, is leaving himself open to a charge of nepotism. He got mightily upset with fans criticism when the current squad failed to produce goals after his decision to sell Alfie May, it might be an idea for him to bear that in mind in the event that form takes a downward trend, no signings in the window and fans noticing that there are players drawing a wage with no actual contribution made to the squad.
From what I’ve been told about short term contracts they usually start and end on the same day, e.g. signing on 6th September for 4 months should end on 6th January, so it’s likely Potts and Hylton’s contracts either expired and they’ve been released or have been extended but the club haven’t announced it either way.

I am expecting a 52 minute video about his two games, but I would of thought at least a statement. Hylton, on the other hand, retweeted the post from Charlton the other day (so I am guessing he still a coach)?

Would guess he is still training with us to keep fit, but is probably looking for another club. If Gillesphey gets injured we will sign him again but if he doesn’t there is no need

Sometimes you’ve got to give the club a nudge. He’s gone.

has landed a 6-month contract off the back of the Gary Kasparov joke…

If we're using stats to make a point...
Hylton has the opportunity to further his coaching experience ..that's the trade off
Potts the opportunity to get fit ( not looking likely) ..that's the trade off
I would keep Hylton and Ditch Potts
