  • Would be nice if The Club were to commemorate Charlie's Charlton career with a statue outside the main reception to stand alongside Sam Bartram...👍
I think Charlie is the second most popular keeper in the club’s history, but it would be a stretch to say he is the second most distinguished player (and I say that as an admirer). There are multiple other candidates for any second statue.
More statues on the pitch than in the car park

Visited Charlie's son Steven today in his house in Deal.

Collected a huge donation of Charlie's personal memorabilia spanning his youth career thru Rangers, Hong Kong , Workington, Grimsby, us, Bolton and York.

It will take a while to sort it all but it will make a wonderful addition to the museum as well as to the museums of his other clubs.

Just had a visit from the Charlton Athletic FC Museum Curator - he has taken away my Dad’s football memorabilia and will be putting it on display at the club museum at The Valley.

A bittersweet feeling donating his cups, medals, photos, press clippings and fan mail BUT now it’s preserved for posterity and his fans can celebrate him once more…

PS Delighted by his haul, the guy sheepishly admitted his CAFC idol back then wasnt my Dad but actually Scottish striker Matt Tees. Luckily I didn’t mind as Matt was also my Uncle. Phew!

PPS He has also taken all the Bolton Wanderers, Grimsby Town, Workington and Glasgow Rangers stuff - and will give it to their museums too…

I think the song may have evolved, but the previous version referred to Ron Saunders.

The final line was "And we're gonna give you a thrashing".

    Simpler times.
