Very sad to report that the much beloved Charlie Wright died yesterday.

One of my childhood heroes.

    So sad, he was a real character and one of my all time favourites. He was the first player to be ‘knighted’ by the Charlton fans. RIP ‘Sir’ Charlie Wright.

    The first Charlton player I can recall getting dubbed SIR when we sang "Sir Charlie Wright, Sir Charlie Wright, Charlie"

    Gutted to hear this, Charlie was one of my favorite players when I was a boy starting out on my Charlton journey.

    Loved Sir Charlie when I started going, great entertainer and not a bad keeper to boot even if he did infuriate you sometimes..RIP

    RIP.

    My memory is failing me, I seem to remember watching him for years, yet his last game with us was apparently in 1971 when I was just 10. Who took over from him until Nicky Johns arrived (who is the next goalie I remember?). My dad did mention someone who had an enormous throw who I vaguely remember.

    Didn't he run a fish and chip shop in  Greenwich? I seem to my friend and I going in there and he was talking with him about football. When we left the shop my mate said to me "you do know who that is don't you?" I didn't have a clue, as I wasn't a big Charlton fan as I am now but obviously heard of his name and that he was a goalkeeper for Charlton.

    I loved Charlie. As a kid I used to stand behind the goal right at the front at what is now The Jimmy Seed Stand end. Charlie was always worth watching and used to interact with the fans all the time. Used his cafe in Greenwich too in the 80’s. RIP Charlie. One of my all time favourites. A Hong Kong International don’t ya know.

    Our No1 when I started going, he was probably proof of the old saying that all goalies are slightly mad, but a very good keeper for all that. Always regret I never got to his Caff in Greenwich, apparently he was as entertaining there as he was on the pitch.

    Oh that is sad. As a kid I loved the way he spoke to us during a game!! What a legend. RIP Charlie.

    So very sad, I used to love watching him play. Slightly nutty but a great character and a very good 'keeper!
    RIP Charlie and thank you for making my Saturday's a great experience for a kid!

    Really sad to hear that news. Charlie was a great character and I am glad that I got to know him  better after he finished playing and was running his cafe in Greenwich. Always had time for everybody, young and old. Will be mourned by everyone who was lucky enough to see him play or crossed his path. RIP.
