New State-of-the-art Pitch at The Valley

I think they've cut it far too short.0

It looks dreadful. I suppose it matches the football.2

I think Brentford share their stadium with the London Irish Rugby team so it's mad that our pitch is already tearing up.killerandflash said:
Other clubs with similar pitches have no problems playing lots of games on them. And we're not even into the coldest part of winter yet.Athletico Charlton said:The women now play at The Valley, I wonder what a traditional pitch would look like by now if it had double the wear of previous seasons.0 -

Do we know who the groundsman is now? Would be interested to hear their take on what is going wrong.
I actually think it started cutting up from the word go. I recall the corners looking patchy in the first couple of games on it.3 -
I remember it did at Wembley, think it might have been highlighted particularly during an NFL game too? Could well be wrong though.sam3110 said:Didn't Wembley and a couple of other places go through this with the first season or two?0 -
Did I hear NJ after the Mansfield match say something about the pitch as partly a reason for our pathetic display?2

Yes, as on the training ground our midfield is the Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets of L1, but it's only due to the poor pitch that we can't reproduce this in matches.Solidgone said:Did I hear NJ after the Mansfield match say something about the pitch as partly a reason for our pathetic display?7 -

The pitch did look sticky but not sure a slick pitch would be all that beneficial.0

Come on now, not many pitches are looking great right now outside the top divisions.
We have been hit by some unusually heavy rain and twice the amount of football being played on it, in it's first season installed.0 -

As I said above Daz, I was at Gillingham a couple of weeks ago for a youth match, the pitch was immaculate. Lush green, not a blemish or bare patch on it.Dazzler21 said:Come on now, not many pitches are looking great right now outside the top divisions.

Makes you wonder what happened to former groundsman Nathan Chapman and why he now lives in Kent?eaststandmike said:

On that note, could anyone enlighten me why they need the sprinklers going off before match then again at half time on an already wet pitch…🤔Dazzler21 said:Come on now, not many pitches are looking great right now outside the top divisions.

I think the large majority of fans have it in for all things Charlton at the moment mate and I can’t say I blame them 😂Dazzler21 said:Come on now, not many pitches are looking great right now outside the top divisions.

To facilitate the slick passing0

Just watched Nigel Clough's post match interview and he made special mention of our difficult, bouncy, bobbly pitch.2

To entertain the crowd. Gotta try something. Millwall have a light show. We have a fountain show.NorthheathAddick said:

Maybe we ordered a "state of that shite" pitch by mistake?

It will never get better until the legendary pigeons return.0

I am going to take the wait and see route.
There seems to be plenty of evidence that it actually takes a season or two to become fully functional.0 -

Pitch looking absolutely haggard today. Already needs to dug up and relaid. I’d be asking for my money back…3

I agree. For a new pitch put down by a reputable company it should not be this bad. Should be able to cope with wet weather. What’s gone wrong?Budington said:Pitch looking absolutely haggard today. Already needs to dug up and relaid. I’d be asking for my money back…4
