Ian Holloway always used to talk about the difficulty in attracting players to Devon. So far from anywhere and bigger names just aren’t interested. Perhaps the board thought the ‘lure’ of Rooney would help get signings over the line. They should’ve focused on his record as a manager.

    Venables?

This is a good shout for a potential future one, definitely makes the bracket of top player with nearly 500 appearances for United. Had a good start to his managerial career, sadly quite a few seem to struggle to make the step up to top manager after a bright start (See Lampard, Gerrard etc).

I'd expect Carrick's name to be mentioned with PL jobs fairly soon if Middlesbrough start well.

Was Wane Ronny in charge of the spelling of Forshaw and Cissoko on the back of the kits?

I think he was in charge of picking out the shade of green too, that's far too light to be Plymouth surely?

Top British players in the 70s and 80s seemed to graduate to management better. Keegan, Dalglish, Souness, Toshack, Hoddle, Bryan Robson, Peter Reid etc all had much better managerial careers than their successors.
  • Beat Luton 3-1 last night. Doing better than I expected so far.

We'll be able to sell Rooney scarves in the shop though.
  • Whilst i understand Rooney isn't exactly doing well there, he's managing a side that finished 21st and stayed up by 1 point last season thanks to a win on the last day. Then in the summer sold their goalkeeper to Sheffield United.

What do people expect him to be doing, contesting for the play offs?

You only had to look at his previous dalliances with management to know this wasn't likely to be a great combination.

Great player but clearly not the legendary and inspirational manager some hoped he would be

I really respect him continually trying even if it means going for smaller and smaller clubs though. Think most great players egos couldn't take that

He spends most of his time in the pubs here trying to pull. Don’t know if there’s a woman left in Plymouth who hasn’t at least had a selfie with him

Wow.  That's amazing.  For him to be so open about it too.

My niece and her friends, apparently the following week he asked one of them if they wanted a selfie and they said no thanks 🤣

    Wouldn’t say open, more obvious
  • I suppose it could be said that for all his wealth he has no problems mixing with the supporters.
