If it was based on current rankings it would be:
Man City
Man United
Liverpool
Chelsea
Bayern Munich
PSG
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Sevilla
Inter Milan
Juventus
Roma

I like the idea of Flamengo v Inter etc but we already have too much football.Same with golf having too many events. F1 and MotoGP do. The cricket schedule is hectic. NBA will be cutting their schedule.I think in sport less is more, or at least it should be.Got to keep those corporate sponsors happy though.3

A good few teams have already Qualified - 2025 FIFA Club World Cup - Wikipedia
Guess with it being in the United States, and a year before the World Cup, its basically going to be a replacement for the Confederations Cup

Those 3 have already qualified as previous winners so whatever their ranking it won't matter.sam3110 said:If it was based on current rankings it would be:

So because City and Chelsea have already qualified the only way United and Liverpool can qualify is if they win the Champions league next year, or have I miss read that?ForeverAddickted said:A good few teams have already Qualified - 2025 FIFA Club World Cup - Wikipedia

My thoughts entirely. No consideration for the players or fans. Just a money making venture.RedPanda said:I like the idea of Flamengo v Inter etc but we already have too much football.Same with golf having too many events. F1 and MotoGP do. Looks like Liverpool will qualify as one of UEFA's best teams... Man Utd are currently on the limitCafc43v3r said:

I think we're going to struggle to qualify0

When will this be played? If it’s in the summer then it’s not much different to the shifty tournaments or tours these clubs do anyway. For example, Chelsea have 5 games in the US this summer.0

DAZN will show all 63 matches during the expanded 32-team tournament, which takes place in the United States between 15 June and 13 July next year.Every match will be live-streamed and free to view on on its platforms, while there is also potential for DAZN to sublicense rights to local free-to-air broadcasters.
It has been quoted by a business pundit that streaming is the reality of the future of football broadcasting.

Didn’t they announce the other week teams would be fined for taking weakened teams to the tournament?0

Looks like nonsense to me. It’s like mixing up Premier League teams with National League teams. Everyone knows that the best teams are 75-85%% European and 15-25% South American.2
-
Agreed, with the exception of possibly Al Hilal in group H i can't see any other side from outside Europe or South America getting out of the group. Auckland City are definitely in for a tough time.jimmymelrose said:Looks like nonsense to me. It’s like mixing up Premier League teams with National League teams. On the subject of group H though, how did Salzburg qualify for this? I'm not aware they've won anything (apart from their own league which is far from elite) and have never gone beyond the last 16 of the champions league.2 -

On the subject of group H though, how did Salzburg qualify for this? I'm not aware they've won anything (apart from their own league which is far from elite) and have never gone beyond the last 16 of the champions league.FC Salzburg will take part in the inaugural expanded Club World Cup next year after being awarded the last of the 12 places for European teams.
A place was previously reserved for this year's Champions League winners, however all four teams in the semifinals have already qualified for the Club World Cup, meaning the place has been reallocated. It goes to the best-performing club in the competition over the past four years who are not already in the competition.
Salzburg's place was confirmed after Arsenalwere eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Arsenal would have taken Europe's last spot at the Club World Cup had they won this season's Champions League.
Some of Europe's biggest clubs were ineligible from being granted the place due to a two-club limit on teams from one country (unless more than two different clubs win the continental title, as is the case with Brazil.) Liverpool (7th), RB Leipzig (11th), Barca (12th), Napoli (15th), Sevilla(16th) and AC Milan (17th) were all ahead of FC Salzburg in the table but were locked out by other teams from their country.
FC Salzburg, only ranked 18th in the performance table, have featured in the group stages for the past four years and made the round of 16 in 2022.

How could arsenal have taken it if there’s a 2 club limit from each country with Man City and Chelsea already there. That’s the reason Liverpool didn’t get in.1
-
Don't get me wrong the old format was a bit rubbish, and i think in time this new version will grow on people but 32 is definitely too many teams. I can totally understand why clubs are moaning. European ones because there's now a month long tournament at the end of a long season and for the South American clubs because it means they disappear for a month in the middle of a league season.
Shoehorning sides into it based on 4 year merit tables who have won absolutely nothing is a bit stupid. Salzburg, Porto, Benfica, Atletico etc should not be there. It could've easily been 24 teams, 6 groups of 4. Group winners plus 2 best runner ups go through to the quarters.
Top players will now be playing:
2024 - Euro's or Copa America
2025 - World club cup
2026 - World cup
Literally playing 11 months of the year for 3 years running is crazy and will only lead to more injuries.

What even is the criteria for this. Are Inter Miami in it because they have Messi or have they actually achieved their place?0
-
They finished top of the league in the MLS regular season so FIFA moved quickly and 'invited' them as the host nation gets a guest spot.follett said:What even is the criteria for this. Are Inter Miami in it because they have Messi or have they actually achieved their place?

I bet the people who dreamt up this stupid competition get at least six werks annual leave.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
