The only thing that has really surprised me a bit in all this is that Rod Stewart has waded in and defended his wife, fair enough, but as far as I’m aware she didn’t report it which surprises me considering she’s a Special Constable so must realise the impact this would have on others similarly affected who hadn’t reported it because they may have thought they wouldn’t be believed. Maybe if she’d reported it earlier she may have prevented others from any distress caused.
So, the reason that a number of victims of Gregg Wallace's behaviour were victims of Gregg Wallace's behaviour was because of the inaction of one victim, and not the action of Gregg Wallace?

To be honest, I’m finding watching Shirley fawn over Pete every week on Strictly extremely uncomfortable. So I definitely agree there needs to be consistency when it comes to this sort of thing.

Just quit it altogether, it’s not difficult is it?
Therein lies the sexual harassment minefield I expect Pete Wicks could probably come out with a crude/suggestive comment and it be acceptable from a female perspective but not so Gregg in a similar situation.

( ps I have no time for Gregg)

Oh wow, that's a match made in heaven isn't it. Washed-up, creepy bloke with no social awareness who's fifty years behind the times on a channel for... (well, it's just perfect). I bet his agent is on the phone now.

This is said with absolutely no disrespect to anyone on here, who is older and finds this behaviour disgusting.

I think this is largely a generational thing with people who fail to get with the times. These people will quite literally die out, Greg [sic] being one of them.

He has never changed, the innuendo riddled carry on films etc, many people moved on and adapted, many people don't "evolve" further once they are in their 30s.

I have never liked him at all, find him a boorish type that I would have absolutely nothing in common with, but I do also feel like people are desperate to get the flaming torches and pitchforks out at the drop of a hat (given the revelations I have heard at this point).

Luckily the much younger generations aren't like this, they don't drink, they don't know how to date with people and in a few generations hopefully we will be born without genitals and personalities as well.

  • Did someone mention Carry On?

Stop the world I have got to get off.  The days of work banter with either sex is well and truly over. Love to go out on a night out with those complaining and hear what they have to say and joke about men. Comparing the size of one's manhood usually goes round the table.

At our place women are allowed to have men's calendars displayed but we can't in our change area of women calendars.

My mother was a barmaid for 40 years and run her own hotel in Scotland. She said if I took offence at every innuendo or smut joke she wouldn't have any customers, and a mile long queue if prosecuting.

Wonder what took them so long to get offended. Some been out of the limelight comes to mind.
There's a pretty clear difference between banter with work colleagues you know well and harassment. It isn't difficult to understand that sexually related comments towards someone you don't know too well might be uncomfortable for them.
    It is difficult for some

    Not quite…..
  • It’s now starting to feel a bit of a pile on. Even two tiers piped up. Have people forgotten Caroline flack? Just cos he’s a middle aged white geezer, doesn’t mean he’s fair game for the absolute trouncing he’s getting. He hasn’t even been found guilty of anything yet. I mean he’s being treated worse than Huw Edward’s ffs

    Times change ,Chippy.

Unfortunately for the worse. Just looked at my work diary from 2013 just in case someone decides to take offence of something I said then, and it's been so painful to speak up till now.

What's the betting you will see kirsty wark on everything coming up in the next couple of years.

A lot worse has been said to me over the years on this forum.

He's very, very rarely on Charlton Life, so it's probably still safe for a while for posters to suggest they disapprove of some of the things he's alleged to have done.

Woke, a very overused word these days, to justify behaviour which is no longer acceptable.
No it's used by people who are sick anf tired of idiots who have nothing better to do all day who find trivial things to pretend to be angry about.

I'm sure many people that try and defend idiots like Wally Wallace would have been the kind of people trying to defend slavery and rasict comments all those years ago too. Times move on but clearly some people can't/won't
    That’s a bit of a jump mate 😄
I don't think it is though, think about what was accepted in society 70 years ago by some people and classed as banter or whatever they called it back then, blackface, calling people "Wogs" and the N word was widespread. When people then decided it was unacceptable and society largely rejected that kind of behaviour, there was still people trying to defend it.

Fast forward to now and racism, whilst still pretty rampant in places, has largely gone from everyday society. Now misogyny and sexism is frowned upon and people are generally trying to get rid of it, and there's some people desperately trying to cling on and saying things like "it's just banter" and "girls say sexist stuff too" and fail to realise that the world moves on and almost always for the better.
I think the point being that banter is fine amongst people you know well enough to know they're going to give as good as they get. That's why its banter. Gregg seems to think it's ok wherever he goes whoever he meets. That's at best pretty stupid and at worst harrassment.

That's sounds like a good answer to me and backs up what 'Covered end' said above. Know your audience as Social mores alter with the ebb and flow of public opinion.

    100% agree.

I’ll rip the piss out of anyone but I’d be mortified if I actually ever offended or upset anyone.

I think that knowing/understanding your audience has always been a key life skill. It is more important today than ever.

Are you seriously saying you’d be mortified if you offended or upset anyone . How can we think creatively and articulate thought within that absurd parameter .

NB - not a comment at all on what Millwall Greg has allegedly done
  • I assume the BBC will have to issue some statement / health warning before tonight’s broadcast given it’s been their main news story. Mildly interested to see what they say.

It’s been good news for the MP who resigned however.

It will remain news until the next national scandal emerges. That’s the way of our media today. GW will be hoping for something more newsworthy to come up.
  • I think the only food Greg Wallace is going to experience on Masterchef is 'toast'.

Speak to any woman police officer and they'll confirm that, whilst it's undoubtedly improved, it's still one of the worst workplaces for casual sexism and misogyny. It's no surprise that much of that goes unchallenged, even today, and a woman officer is under no less pressure to not rock the boat than in any other workplace. Probably more in fact.

The lack of understanding of the utter shit that women have had to put up with in the workplace, the pressure to accept it and the victim blaming and downplaying of what this prat has been getting away with for years currently getting an airing on this thread is disappointing but unsurprising in the current climate.

It's an interesting observation that the people who tend to be the most angry are the so-called anti-woke gammons.
